Title: Estimate your mileage on a bike.....
Post by: Diesel on July 10, 2012, 10:40:23 PM
You could have some fun working this one out. If over half a million k's - estimate the number for us to be in awe of, below.      :crazy

I am expecting to see some fairly high numbers here from Members.

At 180,000km, I am a relative apprentice here - but I have enjoyed every single one of them.       :runyay

What's your story - and why so many?

Cheers, Diesel

I know my ST kilometerage exactly- 94369 as of today.

But I'm guessing for the two Postie bikes and one scooter I owned in PNG and my original Suzuki 80 back in 1968.  However the huge rage Diesel offered makes any guess fit easily.

As far as the ST is concerned I've done 132785kms in the six years I've had it. As for anything before that I have no idea as I never took that much notice but I'd estimate some where between 160,000 and 175,000 kms.

From May 2006 until End of October 2010 I'd average 400kms a week just commuting. In that period there's also two trips from Karratha to Kwinana making 6400kms total. Two trips from Adelaide to Port Hedland (first trip over was via Kwinana) and return making it 16500 total and two trips from Karratha to Adelaide and return making another 16000kms plus other shorter day/overnight rides.

My average yearly distance has dropped since October 2010 to now as I've only done about 25,000kms since then.

About 65,000 on my various CX's, 110,000km on my first ST, 72k on my BMW, 5K on the 'new' ST. Holy crap! 250k and it's my secondary transport! There'd be another few thousand on my 'little' bikes (I always have a little bike as well, 250cc or less).

Imagine the tyres!! :(

My guess (and it's only a guess!) would be somewhere around the 200K mark. A lot of riding when I was young around Britain and Europe, then a fair bit in a bunch of other countries till I got here, then quite a bit commuting in Adelaide and the surrounds, then now. But as I said I am guessing because I was looking at the road no the odometer!.

Well around 15 years into my riding carreer on the road????well licensed, I got me a BMW K100RT and me thinks I put close on or near enough to 1/2 a million kays on that wonderful Bike. Hmmmmmm and now some 10 years after getting rid of it, me thinks I have done over 1/2 a million :think1 so I says I am in the over 1/2 million catergory.

Know of at least one other who contributes to this forum is up their as well, or is really close

Even though I have been riding since 1976, I think I have only done between 250-300Kms due to studying, work, paying for houses etc etc.  I still have the bikes I have done 200K on eyeing each other off ....

Been riding since 1968 and have had just over 40 bikes in that time, a lot of the time my only transport.  :thumb
Best guesstimate about 10/20,000 per year, the last 3 years have done 90,000 klm. Love being Retired. :runyay

Over a span of 20 years with an 11 year break, I've done a measly 200,000.

For those who've done 500+, do you realise that if you had ridden to the moon you would be in your return journey by now? :O

Started riding on the road (legally) 29th April 1968 and have had a bike for all but one year since then. Probably never ever did a lot of kms in a year until this year. Since leaving home for the OzSTOC AGM this year I have done over 21,000kms.

My dear old Mum peekin over my shoulder reading this topic reckons I would have done 500,000 in my late teens early 20's,,  "you would say 'I'm going for a ride' and we didnt see you for a week or more,, and you'd phone from places I've never heard of."...she said.
I'd love even just 1 cent per k. I've also ridden in 5 countries,,,  just thinking about it... :dred11

But then I would have to stay awake !!! I love my Pockey naps in the afternoon sun after lunch  :whistle

Never had the urge to ride, love being on the back and free to gaze around and still be in control of the bike and its destination  :crackup  :popcorn

Hi Chaps,

whilst this is an old topic I have only just got to it, since I retired in1997 I have run up 150,000 klms on my st 1100 and then  traded it on my st 1300 which has done 175.000 klms totaling 325,000 klms in my 16 retirement years, that does not include riding since 1948 (on a corgi parachutists motor scooter) then multiple bikes until I retired in 1997, unknown klms, no doubt millions.... Just think of the tyres I have gone through, 17 sets on my ST 1300 alone..

I have done less than 50 on a motley collection of old dirt bike  and of late the ST.   Now if you asked me about cars, trucks and utes in would be in the millions.  I typicall average between 70000 and 100000 kays a year and it the last ten years have gone through 8 utes.

Been riding for 50 years. 15 or so years on Police bikes, plus my private machine, WOULDN'T HAVE A CLUE but it would have to be a lot (I'm not the type of person who keeps count of things).

Enjoyed 99% of those K's, that's all that matters.

Unable to even guesstimate ... 53 years of riding. Over 3 years of travelling Australia in early / mid 70's clocked up over 200,000 km.
It was the one sure way of ensuing that the ex and her boyfriend could not get one brass razoo from me, because I spent the lot!
Even if I only rode 5,000 per year for 40 of the other 50 years of riding, means at minimum, another 200,000 km.
Just the one month of Jan, 2012 was another 12,800 Km on the ST, and another 36,000 km in the past 22 months (average of about 400 Km per week)
