OH
for it to work
our colours on the OUTSIDE

ALL white  that is " ALL WHITE " on the underside

look at PIC's of me

Let me work on this one, wnt be able to use our logo, to stitch heavy, I will see what it will cost to do 50 hats, trouble is sizing as well, we will have to break it up into Medium, Large, XL.

The all white gets dirty to quick also, but I will see what the costs comeback with.

Post by: Skip on September 26, 2012, 08:44:45 PM
I agree Streak. Getting the right size is always an issue depending on the manufacturer. if you get 50 mixed sizes, you will inevitably end up with excess of 1 size or another sitting around. It is a nice idea but not that simple in reality.

Excellenet idea for a hat -BUUUTT -must be careful - must provide as much protection as possible and be "coloured" (not white) under the brim - "WHITE" reflects glare & heat - an increase in reflected glare (sunburn) is not required.
Bucket hats are good but not broad enough in brim - but something "crushable" is the ideal. Lets  all :think1 :think1and google for example/s of the ideal.

We give these away by the thousands to our Volunteer Firefighters (green colour).

They're comfy to wear, collapsible, crushable, good shade protection.

I think this is the company we use, just need to shop around for the best price.

relly

non of my 5 hats have any ratings

Both of you are actually right, everything i deal in a safety perspective in clothing and hats has to have at least a 30 SPF sun rating, so even the bucket hats i buy have to have it, so Harie pretty much the hats you are wearing will have a rating even it if not written on the label  :thumb

Personally, a Hat as recommended or a cap (caps can be size adjusted removing the sizing issue) with the OZSToc badge at the front would be just great. I suggest making it available in the one colour so that we all match at our meets and preferably a colour that coordinates with our awesome grey shirts. Which ever way it goes, a dark green colour under the lid is good at reflecting glare.

Either way, you guys are doing a trmendous job and I will definately purchase one.

Any hat needs to be light and breathe. I have had hats provided for work and they are heavy cotton which means they don't breathe properly and when they get wet (usually from sweat) they sag which makes them basically useless. It may be ok having a heavy cotton hat down in Northern Antarctica but up here in summer any heavy hat will sag with perspiration and become useless pretty quickly.

Just my 5c worth (adjusted for CanDo's bit).

It''s actually absorbing glare, but that's a technical point.

I do agree it needs to not be too floppy in order to keep shading after it's been subjected to a bit of sweat.

(or perspiration, in the case of our lady wearers).

Title: Re: OzSTOC Hats (At Haieg's request)
Post by: harieg on September 28, 2012, 07:18:05 AM
caps are  " OUT "  for sun protection
you NEED to cover the ears, lower face, a bit of the neck and back of shoulders

dark absorbs heat (( yes BGLs, I know that's not politically correct))
or technically right

white reflects and DOES NOT absorb as much radiation,
remember,  for  hat wearing, we are talking about Spring, Summer and Autumn

NOW come on " S ", some prices etc. from your hip pocket

The OzSTOC badges are to big for the bucket hat to put them on properly, but my digitizer and I are taking the essentials out of the logo to put on the bucket hats, so please give me some time to get this organized, It will take a few days.

I will post up a prototype before we do a run of hats.

Don't write caps out, they have they're place. I would buy one of each. I wear a cap more often than a hat, but if I'm spending time in the sun then I'll go for a light broad brimmed hat.

Title: Re: OzSTOC Hats (At Haieg's request)
Post by: Streak on October 03, 2012, 08:55:08 AM
Let me explain this one a little better, it is not as simple as wacking something on a hat or a shirt.

If you read all the posts here, you all want different colours of hats, and then some want hats, and then caps, I am paying my digitizer to redraw the Ozstoc logo so it will fit on bucket hats correctly, as the badges wont fit properly, and the logo itself is over 20,000 stitches and does not stitch out well on just a shirt or a badge. the next problem is cost, we have t purchase around 50 of either caps or bucket hats to be able to buy it and put in the shop at any reasonable cost.

Caps are simple, they are adjustable, and easy to deal with.

Bucket hats are another problem as one size does not fit all, there are small, medium, large, and extra large, so we just cant buy one size.

Vests are another problem again, as has already pointed out, some want vests some want a full jacket style with sleeves.

so it is not as simple as giving a price, and putting it up for sale, we have such a diverse range of members, and wants and likes, we just cant make it all.

I do my very best to cater where I can, and coming up with ideas, but i would appreciate a little bit of slack when it comes to doing all this as there is quite a bit involved.

if you have problems with any of the above your welcome to ring me on 0488 385 858 if you need further explanation  :thumb

Cheers

Agree With Brock here on Hats, Caps and Vests
We settle for a Colour (so we all match) (maybe a sep colour for the Ladies)
and then sew on Logos ,,,,,,ie small for caps & Hats and a Large one for the vest.
Now maybe Streak could organise these thru his Business or we go and get our own so long as we know what colour and style to get.
My 10 cents worth  :p :p

ok this is some of the stuff we have come up with

Caps, will cost around the $10-$15 (Below is not the actual cap we would use, just something i had in the shop)

Bucket Hats, Will cost around the $16-$18 Mark (Below is a basic bucket hat, i am looking at other designs

Vests: Guessing around the $24-$30 Mark (the vest below i think we can do in a Navy or Black)

We had to take the essence of the logo to embroider it as it is to stitch heavy to be cost effective, and also for it to fit properly with the detail on the caps and bucket hats.

Happy to hear thoughts and opinions?

Hey Streak, My 2 cents.

Bucket hat needs the ST1300 ST1100 on it as well. Cap looks great, velcroe adjustment on the back would be good.

I thought we were talking about a leather vest, my mistake.  But they look good, I'd be able to wear one during the Townsville Winter, this year winter was on a Wednesday.

Looking very good :thumb

People,

I am comming fairly late in this discussion but would like to suggest A legionair cap as supplied by the Cancer Council.

http://www.cancervic.org.au/store/shop_hats/shop_hats_adults1/hats-mens-rash-hat (http://www.cancervic.org.au/store/shop_hats/shop_hats_adults1/hats-mens-rash-hat)

These caps are spf50 and cooler to wear than most caps or hats. They stow very well in an ST glove box. They have a toggle to adjust the size.

Could I also suggest that we pick up the orange colour from our shirt an use this for the cap. This would serve two purposes.

1) Tie the hat colour to ou existing colours.

2) increase the visibility of the user thus adding to the safty of the wearer whirl road side with their bike.

You may also want to consider visibility when deciding on a colour for the vest. Black is the worst colour to make you visible on a dull winters day. :wht13

Post by: Sabie on October 03, 2012, 06:47:23 PM
Sorry dab, no disrespect intended. But I wouldn't wear one.

Dark cap and light colour hat.

I think the ST1300 and 1100 Are needed to promote what we're are trying to promote, otherwise it's just some random letters OzSTOC mean nothing to a prospective member or another motorbike enthusiast.

If you had shown me those letters without explanation when I first got my ST I wouldn't have known what they meant. But place the bike there and "hey, that's my bike"

Ok that's about 50cents worth.

Definatly need the ST1100 and ST1300 on the caps/hats/vest. Point of order, the 1100 has to be first as it was made first and without it being a great bike Honda wouldn't have sold any, and so no 1300.

Title: Re: OzSTOC Hats (At Haieg's request)

If the intention is to promote what we are about, then wy not replace the"ST 1100 ST 1300" wording with "Honda ST Owners Club"

When I people ask what I ride I often reply, ST1100. To which they answer, "oh a BMW "

:wht13

ok this is some of the stuff we have come up with

Caps, will cost around the $10-$15 (Below is not the actual cap we would use, just something i had in the shop)

Bucket Hats, Will cost around the $16-$18 Mark (Below is a basic bucket hat, i am looking at other designs

Vests: Guessing around the $24-$30 Mark (the vest below i think we can do in a Navy or Black)

We had to take the essence of the logo to embroider it as it is to stitch heavy to be cost effective, and also for it to fit properly with the detail on the caps and bucket hats.

Happy to hear thoughts and opinions?

SO all the vest will sport a Sheila's name ??

Definatly need the ST1100 and ST1300 on the caps/hats/vest. Point of order, the 1100 has to be first as it was made first and without it being a great bike Honda wouldn't have sold any, and so no 1300.

Cheers

just for interests sake today's exercise cost $90 in staff wages, $40 in Embriodery, $30 in product, and me having to sweet talk my Embriodery staff to do the job! Diesel do I get a pay rise?  :rofl :rofl

I'm not in the market for a hat but maybe a re-think on the ST1100/1300 design may have to happen sooner or later.

The current design is fine at the moment but if  the 1300 is near the end of it's life and another ST version of some type is released will that mean a third bike added to the patch?

Maybe this is the time to start thinking of a design that suits the clubs focus on the ST series.

The images depict the past and the present it's the club brand that's the future so looking from that perspective I believe it's a good fit. I know everything added is a cost but I have seen embroidery added to the sides and in an arch above the 'adjustment' band at the rear of some caps .
My suggestion would be OzStoc in the arch and the ST1100 and ST1300 on either side or as separate options depending on what you currently ride.
Plus the next thing is what colour the hats/ caps white for tipsy and the 'P' class , burgundy for the cherry red crew, black, dark grey, navy/ royal blue and the list goes on.
Given the growth of this club in the last 12 months it might be worth it long term to consider these things now....Cheers ORSM

I am not going to create different things for different people, the group has always had a consistent look with badges, shirts, stickers and the like.

what we decide on will be what the majority of the group decides, it is the only way it works, hence why i keep putting up ideas.

Teela has made a very good suggestion about caps in doing them Orange with a white strip in the peak, and then doing the logo on it so the bikes stand out more, so i am going to have a fiddle today and see how it looks.

It is looking like caps will be the way to go, and I will do bucket hats for those who want them, but we will have to make sure head sizes are right as being blunt there wont be returns because it didnt fit.

i am just trying to remember the bugger who nominated me to be the merchandising man  :rofl :rofl

The only comment I would make about your latest hat Logo is that the two bike Silhouettes still make it a little busy for a hat or cap. How about ditching the image of the two bikes and replace it with the word Honda. (There is only one colour for a cap as far as I am comcerned and that is black).

ok Ladies & Gents,
I have taken all thoughts and conversation on board, and i have come up with a caps logo combination that works i think, we looked at putting the honda in there, and changing some of the colours, but we really wanted to retain the essence of our logo, so see below the cap and logo combination we have come up with, i think it will look very smart and tie in with our current look.

There is no Honda or Australia in there as it would make it to big, and would make all the writing to small

what do you all think?

Streak, I think it's great but since you asked, or am I being a pain in the neck?
Since we read from left to right in this country, I think the bikes should appear from left to right in chronological order.
I'll be wearing one no matter which way they are.

Hi Brad,
if we did that we would have to change the entire logo, as everything we have has the bikes that way, so changing that is not an option.

and no your not a pain, you can only but ask.

I understand and also appreciate that we talk openly.
Really I guess there'd still be as much interest if it only had ST Owners Club without any logo.
It's much better with a logo.
Glad you're at the helm.

Streak,

I love it  :thumbsup , stop development and go to print  :beer . Can I order one please.  :hatwave
I think by now you've realised that the majority of us love the work you've done and appreciate the effort you have gone to. But please, consider that further development for the sake of a few voices may be overdoing it and possibly unnecessary.

Here is a thought, put it up to a vote if you really want a final bit of feedback.

Streak, sorry to be a pain but I thought the idea was to make HATS, not silly baseball caps. I don't play baseball and neither does the vast majority of the rest of the worlds population, only the yanks and the Japanese do.

Baseball caps look like you've got a duck on your head and they don't keep the sun off your ears, so they won't stop you burning. :well

The name of the thread is OzSTOC HATS, so when you have a design for a Hat that provides me and both my ears with shade please can you let me know and I'll gladly purchase one, till then...

before you all get your knickers in a twist there are reasons why we are pushing the caps agenda...

Bucket hats are a real problem as they are in multiple sizing, this is taken straight from my suppliers website:

Supplier 1.

Bucket hat Sizing: Sizes: S/S, S/M and L/XL

Supplier 2.

Medium, Large, Extra Large

so we would have to order say 25 of each size, and hope that they sell evenly, we don't have the cash in the bank to have $500 worth of hats kicking around, as the smaller amounts you do the more it costs.

with some you can get "fits most heads" so what do we do for the people that buy one and it does not fit?

I live in this industry, and i create caps and bucket hats for work places & sporting groups every week, all the stuff i am telling you are the same problems we run into on a daily basis.

Hence why i am pushing towards caps, one size fits all, there is no wastage, and we don't have to order big lots to cover it, we can just keep it ticking over  :thumb

Whizz I'm surprised you don't know what a puggaree is!! :eek

In the photo below, the red and blue band around the felt hats are the puggaree, the hats are hot to wear for a long time, but better than being in the sun. The Officer (back to us) is wearing a peak cap, as an officer I have one for Official functions. But you feel like a bit of a dork with it on. Also I wear the same uniform as the officer in the photo has on, which is the day work uniform. The recruits have station wear uniform on.

So we also have a baseball cap to wear (like the Coppers but with red check) for everyday use. It's not American, just practical.

Cheers Sab

I avoid caps because I've had so many things chopped out of me I try to keep the sun off my face, ears and neck as much as possible.  I'd be happy with an OzStoc patch and stitch it to the front of a good quality sun hat.

Gents,

It has taken Streak a lot of time effort and money to develop the design for the hat/cap. As has been stated, its not economically nor logistically viable at this time to go down the road of a bucket ht due to sizing issues..

I will be placing an order for the cap when its available. I dont need to worry about protecting my ears, as they were burned off by the Mrs years ago, and the neck has been blasted thru with withering looks as I cant hear so good for some reason.... :grin :grin :grin

I wasn't having a go at Streak, he has done a great job with the caps. I'll probably even buy one. However generally I avoid wearing them because of the skin cancer issues, particularly up here.

Gents what I think we will do is this.

We will stock the caps in the shop as a standard item, let me do some work on the bucket hats, maybe I can sort a once off run or something, let me think about a nice simple way to do this.

I too was not having a dig at Streak, I know how hard it is to try to satisfy everyone but I, for one, won't wear any baseball cap, they look silly and don't protect properly. That is why I was very pleased when the topic first went up and talked about hats, not caps.

Streak, when you come up with a design/price for a bucket hat I will but one or two, size 6 7/8ths, please.

Sabie, why would I, as a pom, know what the cloth round a slouch hat is called? This is not part of my history or upbringing, so I really have no way of knowing that it even has a name let alone what that name might be. I did my time in the British Royal Air Force which I joined in 1968 and we didn't wear hats like that, we wore a beret or a peak hat for parades etc.

I think it has got to the stage of seeing what is practical to do  on an ongoing basis (caps) due to sizing and stocking requirements and perhaps a few custom hats if that is possible for Streak to do.  As I would carry the head covering on the bike for use with helmet off, a cap for me.  It would even replace my Boags and Coopers caps.
