Winston 66, Wonders
This far rides stuff.
How can I find out all about this subject?
I understand that on Sept 20 th.
there is one that terminates at Kalbarri here in W.A.
Is there some link or forum for those devotees?
I am planning to go to Kalbarri, it is only 100 klms from home for me to attend the finish of the ride for the log in from 11.30 on the Saturday, but I have not seen any relavent comments about this ride.
Is it still on?
Cheers

Hi Winston,
I see you made an enquiry here http://ozstoc.com/index.php?topic=1721.msg20064#msg20064 (http://ozstoc.com/index.php?topic=1721.msg20064#msg20064)
Here's the Far Riders Site http://farriders.com/ (http://farriders.com/) Everything you need to know is there and the blue farrides icon will take you to a list of rides, the Kalabarri one is third on the list.
There's nothing preventing you going up there for a look but if you wish to take part in a far ride then you need to register your intention on the web site and do the minimum 1000kms in 24 hours. That's the basics but I'm sure some one more involved will set you straight.

Winston - this is taken dirextly from the FarRiders' Website:
Destination : Kalbarri Motor Hotel, WA
Date : Saturday, 20 October 2012
Time : 11:00am to 11:30am AWST This is the time to get there, aim for 11:00am.
No checkins will be allowed prior to the checkpoint opening at 11:00am.
The checkin time window closes at 11:30am
No starting docket with a time earlier than 11:30am Friday, 19 October 2012 will be accepted
It is fairly self explanatory - but there are a few ways to accomplish this.....
a) ride say, a 500km loop to back home on Friday AFTER 11.31am - get home and sleep till 5.00am - then ride another 500km loop to Kalbarri, arriving 11.01-11.29am for check-in;
b) ride some kms to get to Kalbarri by check-in, have lunch, then ride the other kms (totalling 1,000km) after lunch within a 24hr bracket to complete your ride and be accredited.
Remember to log on to FarRiders.com to complete your 'paperwork' and be accredited upon getting home again.
This rides are not meant to be easy peasy - but make you consider and execute a plan, and get a fair deal of pleasure from what you have just accomplished.
Nice lunch with good people is another bonus to make this a great experience.
Remember 2 things:
1. Speeding to make up lost time (or any other reason) is NOT TOLERATED. :-(((
2. Fatigue can kill. If you can't make it for various reasons and have to pull the pin - you are congratulated for doing so and held in even higher regard in respect of your decision.
The most important thing is to make it home safely so that you can ride again! :thumbsup
Good luck with your plan Winston. Keep us informed.
Hope this helps.
Cheers, Diesel

So basically you can meet up at the pub if you wish, I'll be there & be glad to meet you & you don't have to go any further. But if you want to be a finisher you have to register & complete 1000 km in the designated 24 hr period so even if you live 100km away you'll have to do 900 km to get there & 100 km back home.
However that's up to you be glad to see you there registered or not :)
-
BTW I'm riding up Friday leaving at 11.00am will do 600 odd kms, then Sat morning doing another 400 km by the check in time 1000km in the 24 hr period

Winston 66,
Thanks for the info chaps.
I was not intending to undergo the experience of that soprt of challange mainly because I do believe that I am not fit enough for that sort of extreem activity, but as I am so far away from Perth and easy contact with you guys I thought that it would be a great opportunity to meet up with some very fine people at Kalbarri., and also take some time out for a relaxing weekend.
So will be glad to see you there Scarp .
Cheers to all, and thanks for your interest and suggestions Diesel.
Cheers to all.

No worries mate look forward to catching up

I went to a few FarRide events before registering just to check out what went on and what the crowd was like. No problems with doing that as they are held in public places. If you feel like registering sometime the main thing is always look at the rules for each ride! Check in times can vary from ride to ride. And make sure that use the right time for starting and finishing, which is probably not much of an issue in WA, but can be over in the east particularly due to daylight saving.
I plan on using FarRides and other events as a chance to also have Ozstoc meetups as well, but not hijacking the event (well, not toooo much!).

:hatwave Look forward to meeting you there. I plan on leaving Perth around 8 or 9 O'clock Friday night for a leisurely ride up to Carnarvon for sunrise, then back to Kalbarri for the check in to get my 1200k up before lunch.
( Just hope the 'roo's aren't as friendly this trip!! ) :fp
