Title: Riding Geelong to Brisbane October 17th
Post by: MickS on October 11, 2012, 09:02:21 AM
Hi ST'ers
I am riding my ST11 from Geelong to Brisbane, leaving 17th October to babysit my Grandson while his mother is doing Uni exams.
I could go the shortest way - up the Newell, but I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions of a more scenic route that does not add too many more kms to the trip.
I am planning to stop over on the way for 2 or 3 nights. Have swag and a tent, but will do the motel thingy if I feel to stuffed and need a soft bed.
Any suggestions welcome.

Hi there  :hatwave  I originally come from down the road from Geelong (Carpendeit to be precise, but Colac is close enough)

If you put in Bathurst as a mid point in google maps that will bring up a more interesting ride (Geelong-Bathurst-Brisbane), taking in the Putty Road and some more inland main roads.

Another possibility is to go Geelong-Goulburn-Taralga-Bathurst then continue on to Brisbane via the Putty Road etc.  While the highway to Goulburn gets you there with no dramas (no more boring really than going inland), from then on is a really great ride up through the mountains to Bathurst.  Using the highway will give you more time to take some more detoours further north as there are many great roads to get into Brisbane

Hi Mick,

There is a bed at our house in Toowoomba if you want, happy to help out

When we came back from national rally we came up the putty (an absolute hoot), to singleton, and then came home via tamworth, tenterfield, stanthorpe, and there is some nice places to pull up for a look around.

Or you can turn off a little early and go up via goondiwindi and around.

Anyway I can help ask away  :thumb

Thanks guys for the suggestions. After watching Bathurst all these years I have never actually been there, so I think this is the ideal opportunity.
So I will point in that direction with the intention of a couple of laps then wherever fancy takes me.
It's a nice feeling to have plenty of time before I have to be in Brisbane.
So if you see my Cherry Red 11 with a swag on the back go past you will know who it is.

I will always recommend this route from Bathurst north through the Wollemi National Park along the Bylong Valley Way! Sensational!       :thumbsup

Must do it in daylight hours though.      :-(((

Then Tammy-Warialda-Ashford-Texas Warwick etc...

You should get a traffic free run for hundreds of clicks this way.

Daughter lives in Brighton - 1 Grandson
Son lives in Windsor - 2 Grandsons
So I will do a bit of backward and forth between both. Daughter has uni exams next Mon & Tues so will be in Brighton those days at least.

As for how long I am staying has not really been decided. Probably stay for at least a week.
