Title: V-Stream Windshield for ST1300 problem.....
Post by: Diesel on October 11, 2012, 02:44:06 PM
Any OzSTOC Members with a V-Stream suffered the same problem as this guy from the US?

Quote from ST-Owners.com.....

Anyone looking at purchasing a VSTREAM windshield for the ST1300 needs to read this.

I have recently purchased and installed the VSTREAM windshield and have incurred a problem that I want to pass on to other potential customers. The windsheld blocks wind very nicely with one exception, and that's a big one.

In the full up position, the notch in the bottom of the windshield allows air to funnel directly into the chest and face as if there is no windwhield there at all. I discoverd this after one short 10 minute ride. Lowering the windshield helped somewhat with the wind in the face and would probably be ok in the summer, but cool or cold weather riding is out of the question.

I bought this thru EBAY from American Classic Motors in Zieglerville, PA and upon contacting them about the problem and possibly exchanging this one for a Rifle or something similar I was informed that once it had been put on the motorcycle, it was mine and no exchanges or refunds were allowed. Lesson learned from this dealer.

Anyway, I solved this problem by putting a piece of 1/8" thick 5"x10" piece of Plexiglass I bought at Lowes, over the big bottom slot of the windshield attaching it with Industrial Velcro. I used a heat gun to bend the material for a better fit the curvature of the windshield. This solved the problem and also allowed me to adjust the amount of wind I want in my face from none at all to a small hurricane. Almost looks like it was made this way.

Tested this velcro attachment at over 100 mph for about 4-5 minutes to see if I could dislodge it, and I didn't. Stay put just fine.

I was going to buy this screen, and I haven't heard of this problem before.

Cheers, Diesel

Bloody hell? what will happen to motorcyclists next????
First wind on em, next thing will be rain????
From first hand experience,  some people know why dogs hang their heads out of windows and then again some know why people should never leave their houses

Mate first things first. I had both wind and rain on me today while out on the bike. I know such a stupid thing to happen to me while on a bike eh.
Now for the second thing??
Mate I cut me screen down meself with the use of a Broken hacksaw blade with some Gaffa tape on it to protect my delicate hand. I know I could of worn gloves, but gloves are for pussies.
Ahhhh but their looks to be a great cut down screen on offer from that crowd that make the Laminar Lip job and if I had the cash and wanted me bike to stay pretty me thinks its the go.
I think that ST1300 that was for sale a while ago had one

I've had a Vstream on for over a year and never come across this problem. Maybe he has his on the highest setting (mounting wise), mines on the lower holes but then again I hardly ever have it on high. I put it fully up sometimes just to see if there is much difference but I hate looking through screens, I prefer to look over them.
