So have started the farkle process on the new bike, added some manufactured bits and peices.....but here is the antenna mount that I knocked up.
Made from 40mm x 4mm flat bar (would have used alloy but i did have any)......and 13mm lightduty water pipe..... 75mm S/S bolts....holes for antenna each end (UHFCB & AM/FM).......smaller holes for zip ties....undercoat, topcoat and 2 pack clear over that.
cheers

UHF will be a Uniden UH078 water resistant handheld with a 12volt adaptor I have had in the cupboard for awhile, mounted via RAM mount. Aerial is a elevated feed made by RFI, radio will be added through a Bikercom from Dale.
Made the antenna bracket to accept two aerials, may look at adding a marine AM/ FM 3" dial mount radio in the future, considered phone antenna but bike doesn't go to far from handheld coverage, got SPOT for that anyway.
Cheers

One thing to watch out for with hand held radios, a lot wont allow transmitting with a charger plug attached, even external batteries. A battery replacement system would work.

Yep thanks Brock check that out already, and while it does say its not recommended to TX when in the drop in charger it's not been an issue when used on the 12 volt charger......only issue that may present is RF interference from ???? On the bike.....Iridium plugs may help some what and 12 V inline filter if needed......heard some awful transmissions from bikes with UHF"s.......got a mate who won't believe his new 1800 Goldwing UHF setup sounds like crap.....but because we are all clear to him he has no issues at all......
Cheers

IF Chris uses the CK-078 from Uniden it does allow TX but its not a "charger" as such but will maintain battery.
The new BK-02 comes with various filters/ground loop eliminators, as well as 2 x switched and filtered 12V supplies that go on / off with the BikeComm :thumbsup , currently running this setup my self and the switched power is driving the (car type) UHF and GPS for me.
A lot of handhelds will either TX ok and not RX well or TX like crap and RX nicely when powered, they are all sadly now built to a price rather than a standard :'(. it now comes down to "suck it and see" if you power a handheld.
I'll give you a ring around 11:00 Chris :beer

I was looking at some type of comms and in just 5 weeks my head is spinning, can't wait to pick Dale's brains in person at the Cafe next month.
