Title: Moorehouse Seat
Post by: PaulH on October 27, 2012, 11:33:47 AM
For anyone looking for pics of my newly modified seat by John Moorehouse (Ergo Seats), I took some, but after looking at them I decided that they weren't worth putting up as both sections look almost identical to the stock seat profile. This is because John reused the original covers and they are now really tight. The difference is in the feel of the seat.

I had a small problem with the rear seat in that it wouldn't go all the way down on the frame, he'd built it up too much at the front edge so that it wouldn't slide down behind the front part of the seat. I called him, took it over and he fixed it on the spot, took about 20 minutes all up. The seat now fits perfectly.

From a comfort point of view the seat seems to be getting more and more comfortable each time I climb on the bike, now whether that is wishful thinking on my part I'm not sure, but it most certainly feels different, more like you are sitting 'in' a seat rather than 'on' a seat. And it changes the way your body is oriented to the bike itself, which will take a little getting used to. On the ride back from Johns it became clear that, because of the change in the profile of the seat, my bum now sits farther back on the bike which tends to stretch my arms a little forwards, so obviously the next farkle required will be bar-risers to bring me back upright again.  :grin

My mate had his VT 400 seat done at the same time as mine and then rode up to Townsville on it. His verdict after doing 870 ks on the first day was that whilst his bum was sore he thought it would have been a lot more sore without the seat mods. He's leaving Townsville to come back today, so I'll get his updated opinion once he gets back.

If anyone is considering this farkle, I would highly recommend it, anything is better than the board that Honda laughingly all a seat on the 1300!!

Yes ,I picked up my Moorehouse seat last week and to me the profile looks about the same . In terms of comfort I have not noticed any real benefit so far but he did explain that it can take up to 1000kl for it to settle in.
He has built the front of the seat up slightly to stop my crown jewels sliding into the tank and he tells me that he has used a better quality foam that needs to be sat on for a while.
After all the great raps he has received on this site I guess my expectations were a bit high , and I guess I did expect to see a different shape to the seat .
Anyway I will re access my view after I give it a fair trial and report back. :blk11

I can back up the needs a while to settle in, my seat is streets ahead of what it was, it did take a good 1000km for my rear to settle into it properly, now it is like a good couch, you just don't want to get off it

Can anyone over here in the West recommend a good place to go to have the front seat on my 1300 re built? I tried it on my last 1300 but it really made no difference to that one. It needs re-shaping so I can sit "in" the seat rather than just on it. A softer cover over some softer foam would help, as would some shaping to stop sliding forward all the time. Don't want to go for an after market seat unless I can try it first. Any advice would be welcome! :thumbsup

I used Scotts motor trimmers in Wangarra to reshape the seat for my 1100. They have one guy who seems to get all the bike seats, and he does a great job. Listens to what you want, then gets you back to check the feel before the cover is fixed to the shell. Price was good too.

Thanks guys, and Brock I actually dropped in to Scotts at Wangara on Saturday as I noticed thier place as I was passing. Thought I would check if there were any places others had used with good results before I commited. It's local and he seems to know what I was looking for so looks like I will give him a shot. Cheers.......... :thumbs
