Title: Having a little dad brag moment....
Post by: Streak on November 07, 2012, 08:29:32 AM
Morning all,

Well i am having a proud dad moment, my daughter Jaimie-Lee(she is obsessed with cricket) scored her first 50 in backyard cricket yesterday, even launched me over the neighbors fence for 6 and out to finish on 56, she then backed it up in the bowling department bowled me a sand shoe crushing delivery and Yorker  me on 29 to protect her high score, I could not be more proud at this moment :)

We take our cricket pretty seriously around here as you can see by the photo, we have our own pitch, and we have the yard marked out in scoring zones the palm tree and clothes line are worth one the side fences worth from 1 to 3 depending on how easy the shot, the sheds are 4 and straight drive all the way to the back fence is worth 6

And my daughter is all of 8 years old....she amazes me how determined she is in wanting to learn something.

Sorry about the little spiel about my daughter, had to tell someone, and Teela does not understand cricket at all  :thumb

I've been guilty of a few "dad brags" myself - my middle daughter decided to go to university to study science during her 20's and is now a published scientist just short of a PhD - I admire, and envy, the determination - I've never had it myself. I guess it is all about the reflected glory!

Gidday Streak,

Congratulations on being so proud of a daughter that has such focus on a goal at such an early age.

I urge you to keep up the encouragement because a passionate attitude like that is infectious on everything else she will do.

My daughter, Danika Lee, used her passion for ballet at age 5 to start a new passion for tap-dancing at 6 and then another passion for piano and then AFL and then a passion for Maths and then French and then Drama. It just goes on and on with such a busy life that there is no time for boredom and discontent.

When I lived in Qld I met a girl who I think was captain of the Qld Women's Cricket team and she told me the sport was taken very seriously by all the team and they were all fitness fanatics. That was 30 years ago.

Anyway your joy in your daughter's passion is what helps her do her best. It is unbelievable how much effect a parent has on a child's performance. I can't forget the day I was asked to goal-umpire for Danika's AFL team in a game and Danika took a mark 10 metres out straight in front of me. She is a tall girl and can kick an afl ball 50 mtrs no sweat. Kicked the ball straight as a die, 7 metres. No goal. Could not explain it. But the effect of having Dad or Mum there was just so overwhelming.

Your yard is amazingly flat for Toowoomba. Supposed to be a mountain city isn't it? Then again Toowoomba is not supposed to flood either!

I know exactly where you are coming from Streak. I raised my daughter (and younger brother) on my own from the time she was five and have been to all of her soccer games since she was allowed to play with the boys team at six, then into womens teams at 13yrs, ended up playing for the northwest state team at 16. She finished school and did an apprenticeship and worked as a motor spray painter until the birth of her daughter two years ago. Now aged 30 she is a very fine human being with family, house, part time job, etc and it brings a tear to my eye to write this about her. Enjoy your daughter in what ever she does, as all too soon they grow up and have children of thier own.
