Title: Blue dashboard lighting
Post by: chrisdaly on November 09, 2012, 02:10:32 PM
Can anyone tell me whether they have changed their dashboard lighting so that the various numbers can be read in daylight when you are wearing polarised sunglasses. The orange numbers on the black background look fantastic and clear at night with no sunnies on, but during the day I find them just about impossible to read unless I take my protective sunnies off.

An ST owner I met in the US this year told me about a "blue light chip" that can be used to change the dashboard lighting set-up. He didn't have his bike with him at the time and he was a bit vague about the details. I spoke with Professor Google and came across an American firm who will change the LED's in the dashboards of ST1300's in several ways. The best one is where the right side of the dash with fuel gauge, consumption figures, temperature, time etc appear as white numbers and symbols on a blue background. Unfortunately, you have to send the dash to them. They are at www.bluegauges.com/motorcycle/st1300.htm (http://www.bluegauges.com/motorcycle/st1300.htm)

Anyone tried this or know anything about it? Any similar availability in Australia?

Thanks

Chris

I don't know who would do this but it makes me glad I have analogue speedo, tacho, temp and fuel gauges (and voltmeter I installed). I have never really liked digital meters, analogue are so much easier to read.

Sorry about the hijack, back to normal scheduled programming.

Yep- this has done the rounds before.  Go for it!  No-one else on the Forum has yet.  We all ride too much, or only have one bike, so can't send the panel away.
I can't read most of the digital stuff in daylight without sunnies.  Only the fuel bars can be reliably read, so at least the most pressing info is available.
It's a shame Honda didn't wake up to white displays years ago.  I think the new 1200 has it.
