Cricket, you may as well sell the bike, buy a rocking chair, comfy slippers and a pipe and while away your last few days. I can think of far better ways to occupy my time. But to be fair each to their own.

:eek whats that,
You have two sides, one out in the field and one in. Each man that's in the side that's in goes out, and when he's out he comes in and the next man goes in until he's out. When they are all out, the side that's out comes in and the side thats been in goes out and tries to get those coming in, out. Sometimes you get men still in and not out.
When a man goes out to go in, the men who are out try to get him out, and when he is out he goes in and the next man in goes out and goes in. There are two men called umpires who stay all out all the time and they decide when the men who are in are out. When both sides have been in and all the men have been out, and both sides have been out twice after all the men have been in, including those who are not out, that is the end of the game! :grin

That sounds bloody confusing :think1

No, it's a very accurate and fair description of the noble game. That's before Tipsy explains why they can play for days in the hot sun, and a shower of rain can result in it being declared a Draw.

And that the way it should be. None of this have to have a result by Duckworth Lewis calculations. T20 is less satisfying as a strategic game, the 50 over game has elements of strategy.

Tipsy, I doff my titfer to you my friend, a very erudite description of the noble and ancient game of Cricket.
I tried to explain the game of Cricket to a couple of Americans that were visiting our work place a year or two ago, and about halfway through the explanation one of them blurted out "God D**m, that has to be the most complicated game I've ever heard. The rules are just way too difficult to understand!!", and my response was, "And that's why the Yanks don't play Cricket!" :nahnah :butt
-
it is an odd game when men field in 'slips' and others field in 'gully' when its a perfectly flat field. :fp
-
...and don't get me started on "silly mid off" and "silly mid on", or leg byes or over-throws!
-
:wht11 py
And dont forget "bowling a maiden over"
as for my previous post on this matter you can find it online by searching "Cricket explained to a foreigner" :grin :grin
