9th Dec is good for me at this stage. Sorry Winston a weekend at this time of the year would be difficult to fit in (for me at least). Maybe we should organise a weekend well ahead (like next year) when it will be a little cooler.

We could book one of the small pavilions.

People,

As we discovered at this mornings coffee gathering, Yorkies place is not available for our Xmas do.

May I suggest Avondale Farm near Beverley as a possible alternative.

http://www.beverleywa.com/avondale/ (http://www.beverleywa.com/avondale/)

From their web site;

"The picnic area is a great spot for individual families, school groups, family reunions, social groups and casual visitors to stop awhile. An adventure playground is available for the children. An ablution block and free gas BBQ's are available all year, for public use. For added convenience there is water, power and lights in the picnic area."

"Avondale Discovery Farm is now under the management of The National Trust of Australia (WA Branch). While planning, assessments, and conservation are being considered for Avondale, the property is open on selected days, by appointment or at special events. If you have an enquiry regarding a visit to Avondale please phone us and leave a message.  We will return your call."

I have been there with other club groups and entry is usuall by gold coin donation .

If you think this venue is a suitable I can give them a ring and check the availability for the 9th December.

Some where in the order of a 1 to 2 hour ride would be nice but if closer to 2 hrs then need a plan "B" in case it is a 40 degree day, then maybe make it breakfast.

Avondale Farm near Beverly would be OK by me so long as it be for lunch as I would be coming from Collie via Narrogin , Pingelly , Brookton

When is the Avondale Farm open? From the website it is not clear to me.

The 9th is just over a week away, who is coming?

Edit :- just reread Douglas's post again so we need to make a decision and find out if Avondale Farm can be opened.
I am happy with either Avaondale Farm or Gwambygine Park.

People,

Looks like it is GwamBigine Park.

I contacted the caretaker at Avondale and unfortunately she is going to be in Perth that weekend and can not find any other volunteers to open up for us. She apologised and stated that she hoped we would attend Avondale on another occasion.

I can take my trailer on the day to carry the food, drink and small table. If we get so e idea of numbers attending we can split the purchase list for the day and work out who is bringing what.

Unfortunately I'm going to dip out on this one  :||||

My wife's surgery has been pushed back a week so she'll only have just come out of hospital; and my son will have just lost his driving privilages for loss of demerits on P plates.  :well

So I'm chief cook and bottle washer for the next few weeks.... plus I don't want to cash in any brownie points for the Adelaide run next year.

Enjoy the day.  :blk13

Yorkie,

I just had a good look at the link you posted and noticed that there is contact form and phone number for Gwabygine Park.

Do we need to make a booking?
Title: Re: WA OzSTOC Xmas BBQ
Post by: Yorkie on November 30, 2012, 09:05:14 PM
No booking required, it is maintained by Shire of York, there are plenty of gas BBQ's and tables with shelter and toilets on approx 5 acres.
If I have finished moving my daughter into her new house I will be there, If not I would like to wish all and sundry a very merry Xmas and a great new year.

I am happy if we just do a BYO everything. If there are tables, shelter and BBQ's we shouldn't need anything except our own food and drinks.

Just so no-body gets lost,500mt prior, from both York & Beverley, are brown tourist information signs mentioning Avon Ascent, this is also Gwambygine Park. Avon ascent is a walk trail which starts and finishes at Gwambygine.

Hey Hey had a great day, left home at 6.30am , got a bit of pay attention tax (speeding fine) on the way there , didn't slow down enough going through an 80k zone . Did 621 kilometres on the machine , met some great people and a mad woman who'd run off the road into a stump .

What a mini adventure , at one with nature and home before dark , around 6.00 ish

have attempted to post pics but still learning
