Title: 2003 ST1100PY?
Post by: TheMechwarrior on November 16, 2012, 06:43:10 PM
All,

I purchased my ride a few weeks and it was advertised as a 2002 ST1100PY.
I've taken it in to get roard worthy and rego down here in Tasmania and they tell me the compliance plate says 06/2003.
So now it's registered as a 2003 ST1100PY.

I thought I'd update insuremyride with the new rego and date details and they've informed me it can't be a 2003 as the ST1100 ceased production in 2002.
They didn't have an option for a police variant in the drop-down list for this model.

Can anyone help clear this up?

I had that problem as well, it can be done, they just need to find the person who can update the database. The civilian versions did cease in 2002. If you cnat get them to update the details, try telling them they must do it otherwise your insurance could be classed as void in an accident due to wrong details of the bike. Even if they attach a note to the file some how stating that the bike is actually 2003 complianced.

The model year is 2002 but it's possible the build year could be 2003 as the police bike would have been in production until the 1300 replaced it.

VIN check wouldn't hurt either

Also approval number on VIN plate should give some details of the bike which the Rego office should be able to access. At least in SA they can

and what Brock said

The P model continued in production after the civilian models (I don't know if they actually built then after the civilian model or just released stocks of built bikes and put on the compliance plates as they were sold)  The latest police workshop addenum I have is dated 2003, which I think is the last Honda workshop manual update.

My best guess is this.

The guy that did the road worthy said it was the compliance date...not necessarily the manufacture date.
The compliance plate is put on when the bike comes to Australia he said...something like that.

A check of my VIN comes up as a 2000 model:

Saaz it was my understanding that they didn't actually keep building after the 2002, but had a stockpile of bikes that they kept on releasing as new models until the 1300 was available.  Apparently when Dave Sheen was killed in Brisbane and we stopped using the ST1100 they had another two year supply for Australia.

Mech this could be the reason for the 2003 plate, however a VIN showing 2000.  Apparently a lot of the 1100P models were built and sent to the local area they were going to be used and stockpiled until required.  This allowed for any modifications that were required in case of new legislation or improvements they wanted for the bike.  This came from speaking with the head bike mechanic for QPS.

I just had a quick look at my VIN plate.....no month or year or manufacture. Only VIN number, approval number and built to 1989 vehicle standards.

The last year of ST1100 Police Bikes were made was 2003 http://www.st-1100.com/st11003p.html (http://www.st-1100.com/st11003p.html)

Just got off the phone with insuremyride and they've informed me their database does have a 2003 ST1100 police model.
So they've fixed up my policy with the correct details.

Only downside is:
2002 ST1100 has an insured value of $11,700
2003 ST1100 has an insured value of $7,900

I'm fine with that, at least the insured details are now correct.

Dont know why the 2002 ST is 11700, but 7900 for the PY is a fair price. The premium will be lower as well.
