Title: Satellite Spotting - Educational for some.
Post by: Abe on November 20, 2012, 08:28:03 AM
Have you every looked into the sky at night and seen a shooting star or satellite??.  Is it a shooting star or the solid mass of sewage from a occupied satellite burning up on re-entry??? (fact).  Which way do Military satellites orbit and which way do Communication satellites orbit (roughly, North/South or East/West??).  Where does space junk live in orbit??.

I use the website to spot satellites, whilst at home or camping, the kids love trying to find them.  Warning though, lie on the ground and look up if you have had a couple of drinks (note for self).

HOW TO USE:-

Read this first and then select your Capital City from the list below.

You can find your location (once your Capital has been selected from below list) by scrolling through the map and then click on your place and the marker should appear, (similar to "Member Map") and fill in the field below map (Name, Time Zone) and submit.

You are then returned to the "Home" page and then under the "Satellite" heading, click on a name, say, ISS (International Space Station) and you will see a list of days and times to view it (adjustable).
Below is a list of State Capital's:-

Looks interesting Dvae.
I spent 8 years working in the Pilbabra. Many hours lying on ones back at night when camping out and looking for satellites

Years ago working topside at an underground mine, a mate and I would regularly look for satellites as well as the unexplainable, such as lights passing overhead then suddenly make a right turn and disappearing at a million miles ask hour.
We often saw the satellites going in opposite directions and wondered which ones they were.
I'd try it here in the city but 1. the lights of the city are too bright to see much of the night sky, and 2. I'd lay a good bet if I were to lay on my back anywhere in the back yard the dog'd come and lick me face  :cuss
