Title: What tyres
Post by: hobs on November 20, 2012, 09:37:29 PM
Calling all you experienced ST'ers. I went to the local bike shop to look at putting new tyres on my ST1100. The Manager, who seemed genuine and honest (is there such a person?) told me that he couldn't supply a matched set for me. Either a Perrilli on the back and a Dunlop on the front, or a Bridgestone on the back and name I didn't catch on the front. He couldn't match them up. Now my question is, does it matter if the two tyres are different brands, and if not what are the best tyres for running on my bike (96 ST1100, no ABS)? Should I hold out for matching tyres, and which ones?

I have read many comments on this site in the past regarding tyre preference, but can't remember what was said or read. What is your experience in tyres and what is the best buy. Will be doing both city and country runs. I don't want any regrets by buying poor tyres.

Many thanks in advance guys,,, and ladies of course.

Try looking for a specialist in bike tyres, they will have a better supply access

Recently fitted Dunlop Roadsmart 2 and have no regrets. The rear 160/70 was unavailabe so used 170/60 and have not noticed any difference. I got over 13,000km from the sportmax that were on the bike when I bought it so these Roadsmarts should do better. Would have gone with the Michilen as first choice but were $150 dearer. Happy so far.  :)
