Title: NEW POLL - Letting others ride your bike/s...
Post by: Diesel on November 19, 2011, 06:11:26 PM
Just want to see how trusting we are with our mates/other people when it comes to handing the keys to the 'big girl' over.

I don't want to have the conversation that goes like... "No worries mate, it's covered for insurance" etc etc.

As we know, whilst on the highway, there is no better sports touring machine, but get her in the car park, servo driveway or garage [late edit: or couch grass!], and the ST has a love/hate relationship with Terra Firma.

I left out "Emergency Situations" as we would probably all do what we could for our brethren in critical times, and that would stop you picking the 'normal' choice.

There HAS to be a few great stories to share here... feel free after your vote.

Years ago I was out with the Claytons crew , A couple on their first run with us (on an old 750four) had engine troubles. So I let them
Ride my then gsx750 while a mate doubled me on his vfr. They couldnt believe someone would do that for them.....seemed the right thing to
Do at the time.......they then went back with a trailer to retreive their 'collectable'.......cheers Brian

On another occassion I had a TRX850 and went for a run with a group called ' The motorcylists group' and I was
bothered most of the day by other riders wanting to swap bikes while we were on the ride.
I didnt think it a good idea to let some test pilots let loose on my toy......Cheers Brian

Saying that I can't say I've ever wanted to borrow someone elses bike........

I never lent my wife, my chainsaw and see or saw, no valid reason to lend my bike

Well, I can say that West Aussie Malcolm was on his way to drop off an OzSTOC donation to the house I was staying at in Rockingham and had been fully setup to let me take his gorgeous Blue 13 for a spin. Kudos to you Mal as both intentions were flamin fantastic!

It didn't quite pan out that way. I guess it is better to lend her out to an existing and accomplished ST pilot than your 18yr old nephew whose normal ride is a 250cc!

When I meet my school mate for bacon n eggs each year, we have an agreement to stick to our own (different make/model) bikes as we are generally quite far from our respective homes if anything should go wrong. Hmmm..... now that he owns a brand new M109 Boulevarde, I might have to convince him to rethink!   lol

I have let only two people ride My ST, as I know they would treat it with respect. Its not some thing I do every day. By the same token, if some one lets me ride their bike I treat it with respect.

Even shop bikes when the big STeed is in for a service.......I treat them with respect cos I'd hate the added cost if I broke one....

Only time my ST has been ridden by someone else was when Karratha Honda WA replaced the brake pads a few years ago.

Now I'm back in SA and I was quite surprised when the Port Pirie Honda dealer (my closest tyre/bike shop) did a road test after the tyres were done. After five years and many tyre changes that's a first.

Not that I'm mean, everyone else I know just drives a car. But my nephew and his misses have just got their bike learners licence in WA and my partner wants to get hers as well.

As a general rule I would say no to any one who asks. If any thing should happen I'm the one who is sufferring >:(  :o|||

My brother has recently bought a 1000cc Vstrom. No was the answer when he asked. It's like swapping underware. You've got buckleys.

I'm ok with letting other people ride my bike, it's my bike that won't let them...

No....No....Nooooooooo............. :-(((

I lent my chain saw to a mate many years ago and it came back in pieces :cuss ......no way would I let anyone ride my bike, unless of course it was an emergency.

My good mate Foxy, who once owned a ST 1100, but now rides a Yamaha 1300 cruiser, has asked a number of times about changing bikes on the ride home ................but noooooooooo way Hozay!!

I have no wish to ride anyone elses bike unless I was thinking of buying it, so for me it's a  :-((( :-(((!!

The problem is Kev that it doesn't cover the time without the bike, and the trouble you have to go to to have the repairs carried out..........I'll stick with my decision......nooooooooooooooooo!

I don't have any issues in lending my bike or car or whatever....there's just one statement that goes with it... 'you bend it, you mend it'

Cheers  :beer

This doesn't take much thought - well, not for myself anyway, - SO ?? I'm selfish with some of the things in life.  :nahnah
NEVER lend - or ask to borrow from anyone else -

1) The motorbike - lend or ask to borrow - no matter how rattie it looks.  :-(((
2) My 'BETTER HALF' - NO ! NO ! NO ! NO ! NO ! - NEVER ! (Death would follow on swift wings and it would NOT be quick and painless  :eek   :spank  )
3) ANY of my 'BANG' sticks, or other toys of mass destruction.    >:()
4) Still thinking what would be next on the list   - -    :think1

Life is SO much better on a  - - -  :wht11

I allowed a friend to ride my bike. Made sure to remind him to be mindful of the weight at a standstill. Despite this advice he joined the stop drop club with my bike at the petrol station. Bless the tip over wings. No damage done....
