Hi Guys,
i have read about Diesels side stand mod to cut the headlights when the side stand is down. How do i do this mod.
Hope Brock is listining/watching.
Cheers Greg :think1

Sorry Guys,
should have looked a bit harder. found the diagram. Just one question what does the hid power wire connect to. I am completley confused by any sort of electricky stuff.

Here is the diagram, it has explanations with it.

This mod works a treat. I have found, that, sometimes if you pull up to a stop then hold the clutch, while putting the side stand down. the lights stay up until the clutch is released.
Not a big deal, but it surprised me when it happened the first time. I would go as far to say, it's a fantastic mod for conventional lights. You can work on the bike without the fear of the headlights draining the battery.

It would take some serious tinkering to apply to normal headlights Malcolm, but it is do-able with a bit of time. It would mean locating the power feed to the head light relays and ding a bit of rewiring.

Did mine the other day, thanks to Brock for his support and Diesel pointing out where the connection was located :beer

what a great mod

It would be good to have an 'automatic' cutout like that. I put in a switch so I can have the HID lights off regardless, but lights can only come on if the ignition is on. I am just about to go out and put in the Diesel style rocker switches rather than the toggle switches I just happened to have.

For my headlight mod with conventional lights, I cut the outlet from headlight fuse (used male and female bullet connectors to anable reconnection at any time if reqd), this is the feed for the change over relay which is only energised with ignition on and sidestand down.
Power to lights is through normally closed contacts.

Greg,
I ran a separate power wire from the HID headlight to a new fuseblock that I put in, so I removed that from the new fuseblock and that wire now connects to 87a on the relay and 30 connects to the new fuseblock. no smoke or flame so all good >:() as Brock's diagram points out, if that does not appear to be working as the diagram says, then change the headlight wire from 87a to 87

Greg,
The hid power wire is the supply to either or both Diesel's extra lights and his headlight modification. HID stands for High Intensity Discharge. Some one correct me if I am wrong but these lights draw a higher current when starting up but less when running than normal lights so I think the main reason Diesel has done this mod is so the HIDs are not startng when he starts the bike.
edit. From the note on Brocks wiring diagram it is so the HIDs only power up once the side stand is up allowing the bike to be started with the side stand down and the power to the HIDs not cutting out and then back in again as the bike starts.

Correct Glen, it seems that the on off cycle that occurs when pressing the start button+ ( causes the head light to turn off on a lot of bikes) causes early failure of the HID power supply. That best fix was to turn the HIDs on after start, and the easiest way to do this and not forget to turn them on was to use the side stand switch to turn them on as the side stand was raised.
