Ladies and Gents,
I have obtained a set of OEM deflectors that stick on the tupperware on both sides of my ST-1300, and which includes the little bits for the access panels on both sides. Unfortunately I don't have the fitting instructions, and whilst it all looks fairly self-explanatory I was wondering whether anyone has a copy of these instructions (preferably scanned) that I could take a look at before I go sticking things in what might prove to be the wrong place.
From the looks of it I think I will only get one chance to stick the bits on, and I want to make sure that all is correct before I do!! :hatwave

TJ, That was exactly what I was looking for...many thanks. I knew they would be out there somewhere just didn't know where, trust someone in OzSTOC to know how to get to them!! :thumbs :thumbsup :thumbs :-++ :-++
Cheers mate!

You are welcome. I read somewhere that there is sometimes an issue with some sort of bulge? if you are not careful, might need a bit of research on one of the other ST sites.
I will get a set eventually as well :grin

Hi Whizz
I have been thinking about a set of those can you give me your opinion on them after you have fitted them.My Wife gets a lot of buffeting on the back I have herd that they help.
Cheers
Wal
-
I will certainly do that although I very rarely have a pillion on the back so my view will be limited to the riders point of view.

Well they are on. The only significant problem I had was the bit where deflector widens and runs onto flat part of the the fairing just above the inspection cover (about halfway down the length of the deflector). It seems to want to sit too high and this means that the inspection cover doesn't sit properly. The fault is obvious as soon as you try to fit the deflector onto the inspection cover... it obviously doesn't line up. Solution - pull the center section of the deflector off and re-stick whilst applying firm pressure to make it conform to the shape of the fairing, now the deflector on the inspection cover fits properly and is lined up with the rest of the addition...looks good!!. Will test it out tomorrow or Saturday and report back.
Here are a couple of Pics;

The problem area is immediately below (i.e. down the picture) the garage door opener (the green button!) on that curve. Unless you push this back hard whilst sticking it on, the inspection cover doesn't look right.

The other side showing the fixing screw at the top...and everyone is correct, it's scary taking a drill to the bike, even if it is only the tupperware!

and another one of the right-hand side...looks pretty good!! :thumbsup

Good to see that they are being put to good use.
-
Nice - I have a set sitting in the garage but just havent got around to putting them on.
:slvr13
-
That was exactly the case with me, I got them through Saaz some time ago and simply never got round to putting them on, so I thought that today was a good day to do it. :grin
-
Now I know we have a resident eggspert on fitting them i might have to get them out. :crackup I also found a fender extender in the drawer today so I will have to work on it too.
:slvr13

Tony, do you know the definition of "Expert"? and "Ex" is a has-been and a "Spurt" is a drip under pressure! :crackup :rofl

looks great :thumbs

Good one Whizz :grin

Awesome work mate, they look brilliant :thumbs

You might want to watch the inspection covers, as the stick on bit with the velco stuff seems to pull it off. I found one just hanging, so I took a hint from the US site and used a bit of steel rod to hold them together.

Stopped me lossing my inspection covers and that bit of the deflectors. :thumb

Atoyot, what a dammed good call, that will definitely be the next job on the list.
Thanks mate!! much appreciated!!
-
Atoyot, when you fitted the dowels how deep did you drill the holes in both the fixed and removable parts of the deflectors?
-
10 to 15 mm from memory. They are not completely solid but have some hollow space.
-
Ta Muchly! Will do that tomorrow!

Well, I've had the monster out and about over the last few days, this morning especially when it was about 40 Deg C in the sun, and I reckon I could have fried eggs on the tarmac, and I can say without reservation that the new deflectors really do deflect the heat from the engine away from you shins and knees. My ST normally sits on two bars on the temperature gauge but today it was up to three, and it really felt HOT!, and whilst the ride home was not a pleasure because of the air temperature my legs were not anywhere near as roasting as they have been previously in hot weather.
In my opinion these deflectors are well worth the expense!!
I'm sorry I can't report on their effectiveness for the pillion, but no doubt some-one with a regular pillion can add to this 'evaluation'.
By the way, for anyone considering fitting these covers there is a mod mentioned above which fits steel dowels to the Inspection Cover pieces...well worth doing, but there is a further mod to this which replaces the plastic push-pin fitting for the Inspection Cover with a captive nut and screw. The captive Nut P/N is 90677-KAN-961 (Honda Part) and the Screw P/N is 09139-05023 (Suzuki P/N). This mod makes the Inspection Cover far more secure which is a big bonus as, whilst the Inspection Cover can be quite easily and relatively cheaply replaced, the Deflector section that affixes to it is akin to Rockin' Horse S**t...very hard to find! The extra mod takes literally seconds and doesn't cost more than $10, and is worth every cent. So if you are going to fit these deflectors, please consider carrying out both the dowel mod and the screw mod at the same time.

Thanks Whizz, now to start looking for a set :)
-
Now I'm jealous. Especially in this stinking hot weather.
I looked for them and two sites in the US offer them. But they look different:

That ridge looks quite different.
Any ideas? Where did youse guys get yours? Amazon have them at US$177.
-
I bought the Mitch and Whizz ones in Canberra as runout Honda stock when a branch of a Honda dealer was being closed, $100 a set. I remember that you were next in line to get a set if one of the others decided not to.

Biggles,
I think what you see here are the side deflectors and the kneepad set. I also think that the Amazon ones do not have a store that delivers to Aust if you find out something different let me know as I am looking for a set as well :thumbs
