Does anyone know anything about this bike/rider. Seems a good bike for the price.

The price is about right for that bike, looks in good nick going by the photos..

Seems like a good price, and ready to go for a lot longer. Replacing the alternator on the ST11 is not common for the 40 amp units (except in places like the UK where corrosion sets in from salted roads in winter) The police alternator is no bigger than the standard one, but later alternators have been tested at well above 50 amps even though they are still specified to be 40 amp units.

Would you like one of us to go and check it out for you? it ticks all the boxes for me for the price, and judging by the description and the photos that it has had a good life, and the seat has been modified to which is a bonus.

Looks like the John Moorehouse seat I have on mine

I had an identical one and put over 40,000 kays on it without any problems. As the experts have said, it looks the goods. If the GPS goes with it, along with the other mods, it's a steal at the price. The GPS mount alone is worth having as a mod if you have to put your own on it.
It's still 50,000 kays off a major overhaul (timing belt).
These bikes keep up with most riders through the twisties, so there's no worry about being thought "too conservative" or whatever else might worry you.
And the colour and profile earns you immediate recognition on the road. People see Cop bikes because many are driving with a guilty conscience (e.g. mobile phone in their lap, a few drinks on board etc).
The seller gives a plausible reason for selling. Just beat him up for not being a Member!! :spank
Go for it! :thumbsup

HELP NEEDED - FOR BIKE INSPECTION
Need someone if possible to do an inspection for me please, tomorrow somewhere east of the Brisbane river.
from ad:- The bike is in Brisbane on the East side of the river and inspections are welcome.
It will need to be after lunch tomorrow or Saturday or Sunday morning before the auction ends.
I have the phone number of the owner, and he has requested the person inspecting the bike ring him to organise a time as there is someone else wanting to look as well.
Please PM for the owners details.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated, you will rewarded for your time and effort.
Cheers

The BNE river runs East-West, so I'm guessing he means South-East.
It will need to be after lunch tomorrow or Saturday morning before the auction ends.
That's contradictory... I'm guessing it means just about any time Saturday.
I've got some spare time. I'm on the north side, so if someone on the south side says they'll go, then I'll let them.
Let me know if you still need someone to have a look at it.
Cheers,
Bill

I'm flat out finding time to ride the 1300. Besides, Missus Biggles is jealous enough of it, let alone another female in the shed! :eek

A funny thing happened at the bike inspection!
I thought I recognised that registration. It turned out to be my old ST1100 that I sold in July 2009.
WITH 134,618 KM ON THE ODO!
It was bought by a guy down on the Gold Coast who on-sold it to an OzSTOC Member with IIRC 85,000 km or there-abouts.
That was before this Forum, but the buyer called me to ask about the bike, and in doing so, learned of the speedo adjustment which led to a discussion with the guy he bought it from.
The new buyer did some work on the bike, including replacing the timing belt, and later sold it to the current owner who had to replace the alternator which had quit.
So the upshot of that adventure is
1. Your sins will find you out.
2. The Forum is your friend.
3. It's a very well presented, maintained and rebuilt ST1100 which at $4000 is good buying, because it will do another 150,000 km without giving any trouble. It has a Moorehouse seat, new screen good Z6 tyres, as new Bestem topbox with brakelight and nil accident history (OK, it fell over twice while in my care, but at the standstill). And it has a very experienced speedo! :grin

Well the world is very small, and great to hear one of our originals could be coming back to the group :)
Why was the guy selling? Buying a ST1300 maybe 8)

No, he's actually buying a Goldwing, so maybe he'll join Brian's corner. :whistle

In case my ramble above isn't clear, the 99,000 ODO reading should be more like 150,000 km.
Still young by ST standards, but she's no longer a lamb.

Biggles thank-you very much for your time and effort in those weather conditions to look at the bike for me. After our telephone conversation I will not be bidding on the bike.
Streak thank-you for your assistance with this bike as well.
Yes, the forum is your friend.
Might spend some of the money doing the current bike up a bit or a "Streakification" I think it is called for 1100.
Cheers

Hey guys, I am surprised by the lack of rancor about someone effectively trying to defraud a buyer by winding 60,000ks off the clock on this bike. Surely we don't find this acceptable???? Isn't this illegal??? Shouldn't something be done about it??? :cuss :cuss :think1
-
It is illegal to wind back the odometer, but as it was the guy Biggles sold it to that did it, several buyers ago, its a bit hard to prove..

Main reason we all didn't go up in flames, this is a story most of us older members knew about, if I remember right, the buyer went back to the seller and got cash back for the deception, am I right Biggles?

The buyer rang the seller with his new insights and offered to discuss it with the Office Of Fair Trading. A $500 adjustment was made which smoothed the ruffled feathers.
Probably the lesson to take home from this is that the mechanical ST1100 speedos are obviously adjustable, and so buyers need to look at low mileage 1100s with a jaundiced eye.

Ha I knew my memory was not failing me, but it is a good lesson to always ask the extra question, you never know...mind you gut feeling is always a good one, when I bought mine she was a rough diamond, but my gut told me a good service and general clean up and she would be a much different bike, glad I was right :thumb
-
In reality we should thank our lucky stars that it was you, Biggles, that volunteered your time to go look, and recognised the machine. Damm, what a lucky coincidence!!! :eek :eek
-
It STill maybe a good buy depending on what the buyer knows, wants, expects......good on you Bill for taking the time to check this beaSTie out for the enquirer. I thought it too much a resposibility to put my hand up so well done buddy.
-
Agreed with you Brian, shows how awesome this group is! I would not be anywhere else :)
-
The bike has been re advertised and price lowered, and comes with a inspection report by Biggles.

... comes with a inspection report by Biggles.
Only available to the privileged folk on the Forum. :grin
I would wonder what the "Vehicle History Report" would tell you. I'm not buying it to find out, but it might be revealing!
