Sure, inattention caused the accident. But was that the smartest place to stop and direct traffic?

Sorry, but that cop was a muppet. You don't just park your relatively small object in the middle of a lane and hope that people will see you. If anyone else other than a cop did that, you would all be lamenting the thorough stupidity of the individual involved.

Even if the cop was in the wrong place, just how good was the dayglo vest, white bike and flashing lights? Sort of makes a mockery of the 'do gooders' wanting us to wear the vests when drivers still cannot see a cop bike.  :eek
I blame the car manufactures for pandering to lazy drivers wanting extra add ons to make driving easier (and sell more cars), and therefore less connected to what is happening outside. I saw on the telly last night that the Mazda CX-9 now has a warning indicator/buzzer to tell drivers there is a vehicle on their left, what is wrong with actually looking in the mirror. Just another excuse for when they run over somebody, blame the sensor for not working. Isn't that why we have eyes?

Unfortunately his "suit of blue" didn't work this time.
I know the car driver should have acted differently but why the hell would the copper think the car would stop or avoid him simply because he was there.
I'm not "police bashing", I used to know people like him.

Says a lot for Hi Vis, that guy was wearing a full jacket with flashing lights and still wasn't seen, and they want us to wear piddly little vests. :rd13

I wasn't going to reply on this post, but.... MORON.

If he was purely there to allow the other 2 bikes and ambulance onto the motorway, I would of let the ambulance go on first. People will (usually) always allow an ambulance through or stop to let them through.

If there's an accident, then put the bikes in a diagnal line accross the lane, BUT don't stay on it.

Too many "if's" about this video, but with what is shown, MORON.

Rob.

To my way of thinking there are so many things wrong with this that it defies belief, and as far as I'm concerned that only positive from this is that the bike cop brought his own ambulance with him to the scene of the accident.

I really hope he did not die (I really don't know), I wouldn't wish that on anyone, but really, a bit of common sense would have avoided all the nasty bits of this completely.

Seems strange to stop in the middle of the road but apparently in Holland this is standard, different country's have different methods.

That cop had probably done the same thing a hundred times but the guy in the yellow car didn't even brake and the two behind him were tailgating. :fp

People will (usually) always allow an ambulance through or stop to let them through.

There are plenty of people that will debate that "usually" should be "occasionally" or "sometimes", if you're lucky. The average driver seems to often have trouble noticing and giving way to a 14 tonne firetruck responding under lights and sirens, and relatively speaking, one of those is a lot bigger than an ambulance, and so the ambulance bigger than a police bike.

If the relevant police dept represented here had this as a procedure for such escorts, then I'm sure they'd be under review after that incident, but it's pretty hard to come up with foolproof ways of dealing with in-attentive fools on the road. That in-attentive driver would probably have driven into the back of anything that might have been stopped in front of him/her. It might be a bit harsh calling him a moron if that is what they are trained to do in that situation, but if it were me, I'd be looking at the safety of the painted verge on the road. Easilly said in hindsight too...
