Information

Chris (ST2UP) has kindly put together a fantastic idea to do Christmas in July in the High Country, at the Ebor Falls Hotel/Motel, enough beds for 26 pepople, but swags are welcome, there are fire places inside and out great value meals, and of course excellent OzSTOC Company!

There are some fantastic rides in and out to Ebor, and I can vouch for how much fun Waterfall Way is!

We will even have our own Entertainment! Dave Moore from a small local trio band "the Welder's dog" from Tenterfeild will be playing at Ebor just for our Ozstoc RTE.

Chris is giving him a bed and a feed.....Dave is really looking forward to spending the night with us as he is just starting into motorcycles with a vision of distance touring.

Dave plays Acoustic Guitar, Mandoline and Banjo......will do music from Paul Kelly and Credence through to Australian country and Irish folk music and Australian Bush poetry....all for our listening pleasure around the fire.  :thumbsup

Breakfast will be at Fusspots Cafe, which is a fantastic little place that Deisel, Myself and Saaz can all vouch for the quality of the Coffee  :thumb they are going to do us a group deal (Pricing TBA)

I will be in. Did not get the time to stop and admire the many views around the Waterfall Way this time, but this will make up for it.  So many great ways to get there and back, just have to try some way different yet again :)

I might pull out of Biloela and do this one instead.  Biloela clashed with the Brisbane Laverda Concors which I had a bit of pressure to attend in a different shirt.

Mind you, my missus is starting to look at the kitchen calendar pretty funny-like.  I'm gonna be buying flowers sooner than later.   :whistle

Have to think about this one as well .....two days ride (1500kms) as opposed to three days for Biloela (1990kms).

Though we do have another option.......Ride 900kms north to Marla and visit Heather's sister....lol

Looks good to me.

After my first RTE at Rylstone I found the guys to be an interesting menagerie of personalities half of which wished they had a red STeedish dragon like Wyvern 1300. The other half already had a red dragon wannabe. Some of the others were white in fear of the Dragon or others had the blues. One was even green with envy. Others were black with depression.

The 3 hour ride was good but I would rather settle in to a few brews and head back all perky in the morning.

Looks like Mother Teresa won't be going to Adelaide because just doesn't "get" bikes yet even tho she enjoyed her trip to Katoomba recently (2 hours). She said she would be bored stiff or frightened for her life  on the back of a bike all day. Says a lot for my riding ability doesn't it.

Actually I had food poisoning from breakfast in Katoomba and the day we rode back it was one of those heatwave days. When we got back I said to Terese that was the least enjoyable ride I have ever done. Also not improving things was a phonecall while we were in Katoomba that our daughter was having an epileptic fit and was being rushed to hospital. Five minutes later they rang back to say she was alright now and is not going to hospital after all. Terese was in panic mode and wanting to get back to the Gong ASAP.

Anyway, before the dramatic trip back Terese was starting to warm to the STeed but she can't see how she would last all day on a bike. I might try Shiney's idea of flying the wife to Adelaide. Been thinking of that for a while now. I am keen on staying in Adelaide for a week and getting to know the place a bit more.

Some sensational riding and things to see on the way to this RTE venue, no matter which way you come from.....some idea's for your planning below;

From Grafton (Armidale Rd).... Nymboida Coachmans Inn  :eat, has a Museum of Interesting things including bikes and Cobb & Co memorabilia and many of Russell Crowes collectables....This is his "local" pub. Followed by twisties up through Billys Crk/Tyringham passing through the Nymboi-Binderay NP.

From Urunga (Waterfall Way).... Anchors Warf restaurant  :eat(check Diesels FarRide #22 report), Old Butter Factory at Bellingen  :eat, 15k' Mountain twisty ride with hotmix road surface and waterfalls  :thumbsup, Sky Walk and Cafe  :eat at Dorrigo NP, Griffiths Lookout (little known lookout over looking more than 100 k's of coastline  :eek - (L) turn at top of Mountain). Worlds smallest Motorcycle museum (cafe)
Dangars Falls 1k North of Dorrigo follow Hickory St. Followed by very picturesque ride west over looking the green rolling hills of Dairy farm country and trout streams to Ebor.

From Armidale (Waterfall Way) entering Via Oxley Hwy, Thunderbolts way, New England Hwy......Kentucky shop  :eat (best bugers & curly fries in the free world), Wollomombi Falls 40k's east of Armidale (3rd highest in Aust at 220 mtrs  :crazy), Ebor Trout hatchery and Ebor falls in Ebor village.

Hope these help to break up the "mundane" riding of boring twisty roads and lifeless scenery.  :whistle

When you book your lodgings for Ebor enquire as to available beds in your room and find a friend or friends to share if it suits your circumstances.....beds are running short.

This will be a tremendous gathering and overnight population boom for the village of Ebor.

Once the available beds are full the owner of the pub is happy for a few swags scattered about.

Can bring a number of made up swags over with us if that helps anyone out.

Don't let the accomadation shortage deter you we will make it work.......

Cheers

Well blow me down Rex - I thought I'd go through the rest of my life without hearing any more references to Derek and Clive!

Some hysterical nights listening to those two in the '80s.  Thanks for the memories.   lol

Would have been nice to include the Two Ronnies and Dave Allen, Diesel, but I thought that was over the top. Besides the fact most of them are dead! :)

I do have a CD case from a ??? person in South Africa who thought a nice birthday present for me a few years ago would be a complete collection of the Goon Shows. :o I'm still trying to figure him out. :crazy

He's a bit of a Seagoon, methinks. Certainly a Yoda he is not!

I have a record or 2 of them. Not for the faint hearted.

So Peter Cooke is the Publican. Don't suppose Dudley Moore is anywhere in the picture, or am I just having a retro funny moment, brought on by the death of Margaret Thatcher? >:()

Well blow me down Rex - I thought I'd go through the rest of my life without hearing any more references to Derek and Clive!

Some hysterical nights listening to those two in the '80s.  Thanks for the memories.   lol

Cheers, Diesel

Well as Pocky stated we did a pub run for a taste testing with a  big :thumbsup

The dinner will be your basic Pub feed with the dearest main a mixed grill at $22.00 and a number of deserts like sticky date pudding at $5.50  :eat  6x beers on tap.  :beer As Ebor pub even on a Saturday night is a very quiet country pub (Ebor Population 100 ppl) we will have the entire front bar mostly to ourselves, with the drinks flowing, the fire roaring and our own musician....accomodation is all accessesed internally so once your inside your warm....room in sheds for a number off bikes.

Across the road at FussPots cafe the coffee's on the money and hot non-urban cafe style Breakfasts, Fusspots also has a gift/book shop attached.

Even planted a "Cache" for Abe to find at one of the Geocache sites in or near Ebor .....a ale on the bar if he or anyone else can produce the marked OzSToc card we left.  :popcorn

cheers

Have the offer from Gordon from North West Ear Protection Products who is an agent for Earmould Australia to attend this Overnight RTE on the Saturday from lunchtime to make Earmoulds for any interested members.  :thumbsup

I have Earmoulds and Pockey had hers made today in Tamworth......I must say I am very impressed with Gordon's aseptic technique and knowledge base of his product. Gordon makes Casey Stoners earmoulds, cost for the Earmoulds will be $70 for the pair.....the deal Gordon is offering is not a monetary discount but to come to you, fit them whilst you have a beer around the fireplace at Ebor.

To secure Gordon's services we would need a commitment from a minimum of 4 pairs of the base model Earmoulds to have him attend.

Have a think guys......these smash the foam jobbies out of the park, and I get the foamies for free but won't go back to them after Earmoulds.....

Further to Saaz's post......Gordon from Earmoulds just contacted me to ask if any want iPod or wired
Earmoulds with inserted mini speakers to advise so he can order more supplies to ensure he has you all covered.

He will also do re-sealing of your old Earmoulds very cheap if required.....

For everyone's info- the Earmold agent in Brisbane charged  $220 for a pair with the mini speakers feeding through tubes a couple of ears ago  :grin

So this sounds like a good deal (depending on what Gordon's speakers cost).

Checked on price of the Earmoulds with the speakers built into the mould......$140 OR $165 with Volume control......this is for iPod/MP3 connection Gordon would need to know your which option you required before attending to have the correct hardware with him.

Happy to pass on any other enquires or his contact details are on the Earmoulds web site.

I have used the ones with volume control, and find these great if you are plugging into something like an autocomm unit with multiple devices as inputs.  Once you get all the device volumes set up to be equivalent, then all you need to do is the final volume adjustment on the earmolds.

***************IMPORTANT IF YOUR COMING TO EBOR***************

According to the Pub ALL rooms now booked out for the Christmas Ride to Eat.  :eek

Can the people who have booked the rooms confirm the number of beds in and still available in their rooms so we can fit everyone in, the Ebor Hotel /Motel is obviously not responsible for this.

The owner had confirmed that we will be able throw a "few" swags out once all the beds are full, but we need this confirmed......I can bring a few made up swags over with me.

Thanks everyone this will be a sensational weekend.......

If you come up without a bed, advise me and I will investigate other arrangements for you......won't have anyone miss out.  :thumb

Cheers Guys

G'day folks,
Just to let the troops know that I'm a starter + other 1 definite and 1 may-be for the Ebor run.  After some too-ing and fro-ing today on the phone I managed to secure (thanks Chris Geddes) the on-site cabin at the Ebor Falls Motel.  The cabin has 1 queen/double bed and 4 singles - I would suggest that the queen is taken plus 2 of the singles which leaves just 2 singles.  If there are any 'respectable' members that need a place to sleep (other than the floor of the pub) we will be happy to share - the cabin that is!

I guess if you ARE short of a bed, Chris Geddes (0428 792 425) is co-ordinating the accom, you could perhaps call him and let him know and he may be able to place you in with us 3.  Looks like the build-up to a great weekend, see you there!

John (aka Jochen - Iluka NSW)

I just had a look at the calendar again and there seems to be some gaps with me at home in between some longer rides later on.  So I reckon I might be back in again  :runyay  What time are you leaving Abe?  I might either go with some others from Sydney or take the inland route - same distance in effect (840kms or so) :think1 .

Saaz, come and play in the Sydney traffic.  We are leaving Padstow Caltex at 0900 Friday 5th July.

http://goo.gl/maps/pZfKt (http://goo.gl/maps/pZfKt)

We will be stopping very couple of hours for young St George.

I believe on Saturday morning around 0930 - 1000hrs a lovely couple are going to take us on a ride to a watering hole for lunch, then back by 1400 to "meet and greet".

side note - I'm just polishing the bike in readiness - just 2 sets of shifts to go.

Which way are you going?  And to think that the flag will/should be coming from Qld after all this.

I hope we go on a certain ride, the same as we took on the FarRide... :wht11

And I believe that my bike should be clean as well - it will just show up the chips and cracks though.

 :beer

Chris, do you have a contact number for Gordon from Earmoulds? Got some questions for him re Earmould. I noticed that their company carry the Sena SMH5FM Bluetooth intercom also. I was wondering if the two could work together. Earmould to cut out wind/road noise, but still allow you to hear music/phone/GPS from the SMH5.

I will workout what we need mate....will be stuff you can do when you get home, you could just use your Earmoulds as hearing protection until you get home....be some intricate soldering to do.

As far as what else you need to bring to have a great weekend away well........you probably need to talk to your roomies about that one !!! :eek

The Sena SM10 comes with an optional mounting bracket for plug in earplugs. It would be good to just have one mount that used the speakers unless earplugs were plugged in.  Don't think the SM5 does, but modifications can be made (I have a file at home).

If anyone still needs a bed - pls contact Tipsy soon.

G'day Ebor travellers,

I just got off the phone to a mate from the New England area, he advises that the weekend weather around Ebor 'should' be cool, clear and no rain.  Frosty on Sunday morning ( about -4 perhaps) so bring the thermals, check the heated grips are working and throw that flask of rum in just in case.  Hope everyone has a good safe trip, see you all at the bar!

For all those attending, I will be bringing some ozstoc bits and pieces so you can see, feel and buy!

Ozstoc Beanies - hot off the production line, and a great buy for the weather
Ozstoc caps
Stickers and patches
Coolers (or should I say something to stop your drink getting too cold!)
...and..........
the original limited edition Ozstoc mug. Only 3 left in the whole world, even ozstoc central shop has run out! (there would have been 4 but Sabie got in first)

and of course ozstoc cards, so if anyone needs any more see me as I have plenty, even after the Maryborough card handout frenzy

Yeah, sure, Tipsy.  Looks like it just needs petrol and it's ready to roll out the door!   :eek

As for bunking with Saaz as per his suggestion that we're back to the start...
I can hardly get out of a chair at present.  These blary knife doctors make sure you don't spring back quickly.
Ruby's up on her centre stand so I can go out and run the engine and spin the back wheel so she doesn't feel I'm ignoring her.   :thumb

Top weekend get together. Got there late because of family matters but pleased to see they had thoughtfully lit the fire for us. A couple of Bundabergs best brown ones and well warmed. Nice feed, good entertainer, warm bed. A slight chill this morning (for Ebor standards) with some rooms unfortunately not able to get water from their taps. Some bikes a little hard to start for the 300me ride to breakfast (mine started to ice up by the time we got there), but the food was good and coffee hot. On towards home with another stop for the famous 'curly fries' at the Kentucky store (we had to fight with Chris to get any) and home in beautiful sunshine. What a lovely day to be alive and riding ST's.

Totally agree with STeveo re the overnighter at Ebor!  Great food, exceptional company plus a warm and cosy venue, you could ask for nothing better. The ride to and from was also exceptional.  Certainly glad to hit the coast this morning after a -6 degree start to the day and NO hot water, brrrrrrrrrr...gotta love that!  Hope everyone that attended has a safe ride back home.  See you all at the next ride perhaps?

Thanks everyone! I had a ball! Got home in one piece at about 7:30 tonight and never dropped the bike once.  So proud of myself!

Special thanks to Chris and Pockey for organising everything and for taking us on a fabulous ride around the Dorrigo mountain ranges on Saturday morning.

As already mentioned above, the food, entertainment and great company made for an excellent Christmas in Ebor (July).

Best of all, I came home with a my new Earmold and Senna 10 system that kept me bopping all the way home.  I was SToked!

When's the next RTE? I better go check?

Yeh we thawed out okay and were pretty glad it was as sunny day.

We joined TC at Dorrigo Hospital (bad case of gastro) and had a pretty enjoyable ride home.

Like TC said a few times "It's about the journey, not just the destination"

I had a great time guys n gals, good company / good music / good food and a warm room
Saaz I hope you manage to get enough sleep what with all my snoring/coughing and farting.
although nice and warm I did not get much sleep due to this wog,
cool morning and Rhonda was not happy so  she required a jump. Then was purring like a kitten.
Top breaky had a chat a chat and then headed home.

the road between Grafton and Ebor ooooh what hoot except for a 4x4 cutting the corner on my side
at least this one eyed old codger still has a quick reaction on a bike.
Went to the coast on the way home another top corner road although only a short 1 and then the terrible ride to Grafton, sheeez.
Any way got home around 4pm quite sore but ready to go again this morning.

Ebor - A Dragon's Tale

The day b4 takeoff to Ebor, I attempted to get my rear tyre off with this levered setup. It failed. I would do one side, rotate to do the next bit and the first part would pop back on. A2Z was helping but we couldn't get the tyre off. Must ask Saaz how he gets his tyres off. Turns out he has a machine. Anyway, the dealer popped the new tyre on the rim and b4 nightfall I had the new PR3 ready to go with balancing beads in both tyres thanx to Saaz.

After an eventful day where I found out late that Abe wasn't coming, A2Z and I were separated in Sydney traffic and Saaz was held up in motorway traffic. We all met up again about 40kms from Ebor. Found the Ebor Falls Hotel/Motel. The room was spacious and clean.
(http://i1308.photobucket.com/albums/s616/_gregorypb/SAM_6185_zpseb8061d8.jpg) (http://s1308.photobucket.com/user/_gregorypb/media/SAM_6185_zpseb8061d8.jpg.html)

Next morn, ST2UP and PocketSTOCker arrived to take myself, Saaz and A2Z for some mountain rides and views. I learnt a lot about riding the ST that day by watching longtime riders like ST2UP and Saaz get round the bendies with minimum effort and maximum progress. There they were: Conjoined twins ST2UP and Pockie leaning back like "Easy Riders", feet up on the cruiser pegs and I'm thinking they should name their STeed "Peter Fonda" and wear bandannas as helmet liners! NuckNuckNuck. Buzzinga! A2Z was following them smoothly as well and Saaz is a master at riding the speed limit and using the lean of his STeed to get him thru the windeys with minimum fuss. Meanwhile I was fussing over the right gear to be in, trying different lines thru different corners, accelerating up the straights and eventually giving up the chase and enjoying the views.

Here's Saaz taking fotos on the Skywalk at the Dorrigo Nature Reserve and restaurant.

Really like this foto taken by Saaz who got ahead of the group in time to set up the scene. U can see Wyvern the Dragon's eyes concentrating on any traffic that dares to cross his path. Getting the file from Saaz to print and frame.
(http://i1308.photobucket.com/albums/s616/_gregorypb/e12f19b643a0d64aeebb60f838594397_zpse9d24a9b.jpg) (http://s1308.photobucket.com/user/_gregorypb/media/e12f19b643a0d64aeebb60f838594397_zpse9d24a9b.jpg.html)

Tipsy, from Qld was one of the first to arrive on Saturday afternoon.
(http://i1308.photobucket.com/albums/s616/_gregorypb/SAM_6208_zps89eaca8b.jpg) (http://s1308.photobucket.com/user/_gregorypb/media/SAM_6208_zps89eaca8b.jpg.html)

Steveo and Wendy were there from relatively nearby Tamworth. Had a nice snack with them at the Kentucky Cafe.
(http://i1308.photobucket.com/albums/s616/_gregorypb/SAM_6206_zpsdc71463d.jpg) (http://s1308.photobucket.com/user/_gregorypb/media/SAM_6206_zpsdc71463d.jpg.html)

Brad and Karen Bluehonda came from the Taree area on their Black STeed that was Jack Frost White for their ride home with TC who was laid up in hospital overnight with a sudden gastro infection. Apparently Brad and Karen got Terry back on his ST for a steady ride back home. I shared accom with Brad and Karen and enjoyed their company immensely. Brad, a motorcycle advanced riding instructor, like me, enjoys being at the back of the pack with a more defensive riding style.
(http://i1308.photobucket.com/albums/s616/_gregorypb/2013-07-07080433_zps6ad0fe5f.jpg) (http://s1308.photobucket.com/user/_gregorypb/media/2013-07-07080433_zps6ad0fe5f.jpg.html)

This cheerful man, known sometimes as "The Traveller",  I got into a conversation with during the previous night's entertainment was Jochen50's riding buddy. TT told me a fascinating story of how well he came out of a breakdown incident way out in the sticks, where, by freakish good luck a mobile phone tower was within sight.  A call to NRMA Platinum Roadside Assistance got his stricken bike trailered to a repair shop and accommodation provided. Best $200 he has ever spent, he said. Jochen was there and signed up himself straight away.
(http://i1308.photobucket.com/albums/s616/_gregorypb/2013-07-07075958_zpsf70fb4a0.jpg) (http://s1308.photobucket.com/user/_gregorypb/media/2013-07-07075958_zpsf70fb4a0.jpg.html)

A close look at Jochen50's black ST revealed that it has also a golden fleck metallic paint identical to ST2UP's STeed. I saw ST2UP's reaction to this where he was seen shaking his head in disbelief, jaw on the ground digging a furrow and murmuring and weeping and slobbering out the words "There can't be another one like mine, not with the golden flecks, can't be ... Pockie, come here, I need u darlin'".
Anyway there were serious consequences, as A2Z was backing his red dragon 1300 to what he thought was clear space, and, you guessed it, he hit the furrow that Chris's jaw had just dug and down he went again. Pockie was there to help. NuckNuckNuck. Buzzinga!

Good report ST.George.  You forgot to mention that the Dragon also has a mighty growl! that does not show up in the photos.  For those looking at the photos, look to the Two Brothers mufflers on the Dragon.

As for riding the ST through corners, very similar to my GS1000 I have owned since 1980...be smooth, pick the line and accelerate through.  A large heavy bike but with good handling, so keep it steady without wobbling like a pudding if you star being fancy.  I am not a shove into corner and shoot out type, more of a Moto2 rider style of keeping the speed up through corners.
