Title: Lionel in Canberra
Post by: Lionel on February 11, 2013, 08:19:45 PM
Hi all. I ride a 2002 ST1100P and last week I bought a 2008 ST1300 from Devonport.
Some years ago I was a member of the original OZSTOC where I met some of the current members, SAAZ, Barry, Laurie and Dick.
I have retired and can focus on long distance riding, FarRides and IBA rides.
I hope to meet you at the March rally. Cheers.

Hi Lionel,
I remember meeting you at Robertson last year when you came long with John (Saaz). Your new bike is a twin to mine. (A very discerning choice!). Look forward to catching up with you at Middleton. Welcome back to the forum.
Cheers

It must be someone else Doug.
I live in the inner South and rarely use the Parkway.
I'm interested in "all the antennas" as I need to get comms for the new bike.

Goes to show that the ST13 is not as simple to work on as the ST11   :crackup  but easier to ask a guru that read a manual or look up the interweb  :-++

And as for the photos, I took the first one at the Snowy Ride last year while we were having a few wheat beers (mine is the dark one). The second is in my driveway, admire the camellias and azaleas.

Thanks all for the warm welcome.
I have been out and about a bit lately.
Saaz put a new front tyre on the ST1100 for me on 23 Dec; 177,280 km on the speedo.
Today he changed the tyre for me even though the tread wasn't down to the wear marks; 200,159 km.
That sort of wear out of a front tyre is a record me for.
Its more remarkable given the temps through outback Queensland, NT and across to WA - mostly 40+ degrees.
I'm still trying to make the national meet at Middleton.

Strewth, aren't you the quiet achiever then!?  Nearly 23000 kays in two months!

But the FarRider FarChallenge was completed, all of the pictures.  The wear marks on the side were ok, but the aramid etc fibers as part of the carcass were starting to want to appear in some parts. Have to take a few photos tomorrow of spark plug tools, tyres etc  >:()

Thanks all for the warm welcome.

Easily done. Shinko Verge in ST1300 sizes, from Jakewilson.  Last time I got a few sets in worked out at $220 a set (to hit the sweet spot for shipping).  I only got about 17,000kms out of my set, but the best I have ever got for tyres that work in all conditions.  10,000kms is my norm for most others.

Michelin PR2s supposedly work and wear well, so quite likely they will go that far. I have a set on at the moment but only 5000kms on them, but ride and grip very well.  But cost about 40% more than the shinkos, so they will have to make records!

Greetings Ol' Boy & Owthaellrya :beer

I'm sorry but l have just picked up on this thread and it was only after l spotted the introductory pic it dawned on me, that's Lionel. Good to see John looking after you :thumb

Have you finally put away your pencil n paper and fully retired yet? I have. Anyway I will try and make an effort and head up to your neck of the woods hopefully in the later half of the year as I have a bit on my plate at present. In the mean time great to read you have finally pensioned off that old worn out white bike and hope that the 1300 serves you as well. Maybe l will try for the Snowy Ride again, but it will be difficult.

Cheers for now and again tis good to hear from you.

Dick:-)

Dick, Lionel has pensioned off the first white ST (220,000kms or so), the second one is still operational with a new timing belt (only changed 60,000kms over the recommended interval at 200,000kms) but that is for another post) and the ST13 is still to be fully made operational (like a battlestar really).  Perhaps no snowyride this year so keep the time open for something else....

Hi Dick,
It’s been a long time.
I’ve been involved mainly with FarRiders over the last few years.
I retired in Dec 12 and now have more time to do some rides with this group.
I hope to donate at least one of my ST1100Ps to the Australian Motorcycle Museum at Nabiac.
I also want to do the Snowy ride again the year – will probably stay in Jindabyne. It clashes with a FarRide but the Snowy Ride takes precedence with me, as the funds raised go to research into children’s cancer.
Cheers,
Lionel
