Title: New From SA.
Post by: jimwilly on February 20, 2013, 01:48:45 PM
 Hi All
I've just found this site and hav'nt looked around yet.
I currently ride a honda Blackbird which I've had for the last 8 years. I'm currently in the process of buying another bike and have been keen on the ST for quite some time. I do a run to the snowy Mts every year and the Blackbird is getting a bit hard on the backside.
I rang the honda dealer this morning and he has new ST1300 out for $19990 on the road. This has stopped me just thinking and riding to Adelaide tomorrow and having a look
I'm 55 yrs old now and this would probably be my last bike.
I've been riding for 30 yrs, bike instructor for 7 yrs, and love bikes.
I have always serviced my own bikes, I'm hoping the st is as idiot proof as the Blackbird.

Hi Jimwilly,
Welcome to OzSTOC from a fellow South Aussie.   Good luck with finding your ST, and I must say that a new one for $19,990 is pretty good.

Welcome Jimwilly. You won't ever regret buying an ST 1300. No such thing as a perfect bike, but the ST comes as close as it gets I reckon.
Cheers.

Grab that bike at that price!!  You'll need to put a top box and a cruise control on her to make a perfect tourer out of a great tourer.

If you can service a Blackbird, you'll find the ST no harder.  Just a bit more tupperware to remove, but more room under the covers to put the extras you'll soon be coveting (air horn, intercom, security box etc etc).

Welcome.  There's no refund if you don't like the Forum, but no one has ever asked for their money back.   :grin

Welcome Jim,
That's a very good price for a new unfarkled ST.  You won't be sorry with the ST.

If you purchase ... Photos please and we can give you a list of farkles that will bring your ST up to spec... Lol  :thumbsup

Thanks for the warm welcome. I went to Adelaide this morning, did'nt end up buying new but bought a used ST 2004 model. Got 43000 k's on the clock but every things been done, topbox, highway pegs, large screen, staintune pipes with originals and some chrome do dads.
Only $11490 which I thought was reasonable, $5000 trade for the blackbird.
Cant wait to pick it up next week.

That price proves that farkles don't help with the price, especially with dealers.  They tend to put the Red Book price on, regardless of those excellent extras that are worth thousands.
The odo is quite low- there are people around who do that distance every year or two.
You've done well.  Now lets see you out on the road!

It seems if you look around the ST13 can be had for less than $20,000 ride away.  The price on used ST13s with extra stuff is quite amazing at the moment.  43,000kms is just run in  for the ST13 and the ST11, and I would have no hesitation in buying one.  Seems like blackbirds are a good buy as well...   :think1

I guess being second hand you didn't have a colour choice but you are lucky because red ones are definitely faster

Hi there Jimwilly - great score mate!

I happen to believe that Candy coloured '04s are the most outstanding model that Honda have ever manufactured. What's more, they seem to attract very astute, intelligent and charismatic gentlemen to showcase them around the land. Oh the others are fine too, but the red '04 ST13s seem that cut above.

Well spotted - you obviously have a keen eye for quality and craftsmanship!              :popcorn

Welcome aboard.

Cheers, Diesel

At last I've finally taken delivery of the ST. I picked it up from honda world this morning.
Took it for a run through the hills, Mt. Torrens, Tungkillo and home rides great and has better acceleration than I expected, top gear roll on hit 160 k's surprizingly quickly.
The only thing I noticed was a slight vibration from the front of the motor riding through Adelaide.
I was in 3rd gear, gave the throttle a bit of a tweak up to 70 or so and it seem to vibrate a small amount.
This happened more than once, hoping this is a quirk.
All in all Im more than happy, especially the screen, too much wind noise up goes the screen, hey presto
 nice quite smooth ride.
Off again in the morning.

I can't wait to get on those high speed S.A. Autobahns   :grin

Your vibration just sounds like a simple harmonic effect.  Maybe you're being hyper-sensitive.  If the motor is smooth the rest of the time and everything else seems normal then that would be my guess.

Nice to hear she's now yours, and your enjoying the comfort, power and handling.   How about posting a us a photo.   In regard to your vibration, ask the guys at Honda World.   They have serviced my bike since I bought it, and I'm confident you'll get good advice from them.

Thanks for the advice, put another 160 k's on this morning while the rest of the family was still in bed.
I think maybe it's just an ST thing in regards to the vibes.
Had a great ride, bit breezy but the extra kilo's help keep the bike on track, thats the bike not me....errr well maybe some of mine.
