Excellent pix, Dave. When was that ride?
I know the first pic is the famous curve that is the banner of the FR site.

Cockburn where the Border Gate cafe is was where I first started school in 1960.

The town was the SAR (SA railways) border station back in the days of steam and the early diesel years. Dad was either the station master or at least worked in the station around 1960.
Population from here is 25 as of 2005. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cockburn,_South_Australia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cockburn,_South_Australia)
A town called Burns (no longer there) was on the NSW side of the border but if you look at the map http://goo.gl/maps/V1sE5 (http://goo.gl/maps/V1sE5) you'll see that the Border Gate Cafe (red roof where hwy crosses border) is actually in NSW, not SA so the town of Burns might still be there in name only.
Back in those days State Rail locomotives and their crews only worked within their own state so engines etc were swapped over at border stations like Cockburn/Burns and Serviceton in victoria
Sorry for the brief history lesson.......
