Title: New Tyres
Post by: Streak on March 02, 2013, 02:01:54 PM
Well today has been an interesting day, got up early this morning to ride to Brisbane for new tires as it was $120 cheaper to get them there than it was in Toowoomba!

Weatherman siad showers, i looked and radar and thought hmmmm great day to test my new wet weather gear.....and it was, it poured the entire 270km round trip (Google: http://goo.gl/maps/sk1ds (http://goo.gl/maps/sk1ds)), even survived a few truck washes (not the getting clean type either).

took me 2 hours to the 130km to get there

Tyres for bikes where awesome though, i pulled the front of the shop, Dave the Manager waved me straight into the shop, asked me to take off my panniers, then gave me the drum, hang your wet gear over there to dry

there is the couch and TV there or a great little coffe shop 150m down the road (I chose the coffee shop), walked in to this little shop and here is the first sign i see

the coffee was great, and so was the little hostess, gave me hot lemon water as i was still coughing from my man flu (and promptly told me to drink it), i sat down and watched a Green ST1100 pull up out the front and ride off again, but the absolute highlight was a couple walked in, ordered coffee and told her she they are sitting outside, her reply" no sit outside, you get wet" they toffed their nose at her, and sat outside on the table and chairs.....not ten seconds later truck comes past, throws up a wash that hits the windows of the shop and drenches the snobby couple.....Priceless wish i could have got a photo! i am still laughing!

jogged back to the bike shop as it was still raining quite hard, picked up the bike paid for my tires and repair kit (wanted it for the rally), he was talking about the different ozstoc members he has met from the group Dennis, Tony and others, someone was in yesterday but he could not remember who it was

got my invoice, really enjoyed reading the bit with the OzSTOC discount on it.

all in all, got to go for a ride, wet weather gear works great, (new tires BT 023 front and back), biggest laugh i have had in months, so i cant complain at all!

On the new pads, about 50k, I haven't done much riding due to the rain.
Rain + new tires + new breaks = not much riding

I think the old pads were around 16'000k :thumb

In future I'll be checking them regularly as when they were replaced they only had about 1/2 a millimeter of pad left :eek

I do a lot of stop start riding though, so results will be different for others

Mostly open road, but I do use the rear brake on roundabouts to stabilise the bike.

Townsville is the capital of Roundabouts...

Be thankful.
Brisbane is the capital of traffic lights!
And the latest trick is to not put in slip lanes for left turns, even when there is a huge amount of open land that would accommodate a three-lane-wide slip lane.

I hope you have better luck with tyre wear from the Bridgestones than a lot of us Graham. I'm with Shiney on the Michelins. I'm on the PR2's and so far couldn't be happier.

I'm going to try the new Dunlop Roadsmart 2 as my tyres become due for replacemet.

Got them priced yesterday for $477 fitted for 1100 sizes. It looks like I wasn't the only person asking about the rear size either.
He also advised that Z6/Z8 at a similar price.

Told him about the last Z6 I had and he told me that the 160/60 tyre on any brand shouldn't be fitted because of the weight rating on the tyre.

Got new tyres fitted today at my favourite local bikeshop, BT023s front and rear $400 fitted. Pretty happy with that considering he pulled the tyres off my trailer wheels at the same time. I'm getting the trailer wheels powder coated since the cheap chrome had rusted, I should have them back in a week.
