Title: Police Trap on Macquarie Pass
Post by: rally on March 14, 2013, 07:09:42 PM
:rd13Macquarie Pass Entrapment...just a word of caution re entrapment on Macquarie Pass by the Police, an unmarked 4wd is positioned at the base of Macquarie Pass, when motorcyclists are seen approaching they pull out in front of them and drive up the pass at a SLOW pace which entices motorbikes to overtake them, there is a camera in the car and when overtaken they radio ahead up the hill and when you arrive at the dual road section you are pulled over by uniformed Police and the infringement issued. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED

I deduce there isn't an overtaking lane, otherwise you could pass a slow vehicle at legal speeds.
That just shows to me that some aspects of law enforcement are a joke- it's not about safety, it's about
1.  Revenue Raising for bankrupt and corrupt governments.
2.  Legalistic, no compromise, unrealistic application of road rules.
3.  Game playing, which amounts to entrapment.

Rally,
I'm surprised someone hasn't parked a bit further up the hill and pulled out in front of the 4WD to slow it up a bit.

The old speed reduction policy they keep advertising over here.......reduce the speed limit from 110 to 100 so you might survive rather than die at 110. Nothing about preventing the accident in the first place.........that means education/training etc.( that's another topic)

You might also notice we're the only state with a 25kph school zone limit and it applies 24/7 if some one of school age is between the signs. Don't ask........it defies logic.

And the other 40kph limit for an emergency vehicle (Police, Fire and Ambo) with flashing lights activated. Though limit only applies on one side of a divided road.

Passing lanes.......If the passing lane is for oncoming traffic then we have to wait until both lanes are clear before we can use the center lane

Back on track

Hello Gavo. Today I received my letter in the mail. $464. Disobeying a red light.  :law It was when we were back tracking back to get a new back tire in Port Augusta. I even have it recorded on my camera. I was expecting it but not the large donation.
There are no points recorded on the fine. :-[ :wht11

Can't be sure, but I wouldn't assume there isn't a points penalty as well.  It's 3 points in QLD.

Last red light I went through in Fortitude Valley cost me $160.00 per hour!      :eek

Err... wait - that's none of your business!     :-(((         :spank         :rofl

For the record - Although I had 15 or so white Police bikes behind me at some stage over the weekend, they were all friendlies.       :clap         :wht11 :wht11

Cheers, Diesel

Gavo,
City Motor Auctions, Brisbane, about 7-8 years ago.
They mostly had high mileage on them because they had been retained in service longer than normal owing to CHOGM.
Thirteen bikes and I was the only bidder.
The reserve price was $8,500 but after a phone call, the auctioneer dropped the price to $8,000.
I bought one that had 79,000 km on the clock.

Saw the same sight way back then Ruben. I thought they were a bit overpriced and a bit knocked around. Nevertheless, I'm sure they are all still going strong. Don't regret getting the  :blu13  though.  :thumbsup   Except for that damn seat.  :fp

Skip,
From curiosity, how much were they going for and was the mileage high?

To be honest, I can't remember the specifics. I think what Lionel posted is close to the money. I think most were well up into the 100 thou's. Shortly after, I scored a 2 year old 1300 with 8000 k's on it for $15 big ones which I just couldn't pass up. Just wish I had more time to ride the thing.
