Plenty to choose from, I have put the main players above.
I will do a new poll on iOS Vs Android shortly.
Cheers, Diesel
PS - I am a swinging voter. Voted iPhone as it is my current phone, just waiting for new Galaxy S4 to be released here.

I don't have a smartphone. I have a DumbPhone which can only make phone calls or send text messges (which I've just learned about), and I'll be devestated when the time comes and I can only replace it with a technowonderbox that does a whole bunch of stuff that I don't need or want, while costing me a fortune to buy and feed with "plans".
I guess I sound like a technophobe! :crazy

Mine is a Galaxy Mini s5570 which isn't so small in size....lol......
I use mine mainly for music and as a back up GPS using the Navigon app that came with it. I have tried the camera, the quality is ok but no where near as good as a dedicated decent camera.
For a two for one deal
Heather has a Galaxy 580
and the 10.1 wi-fi Tab came with it.
We haven't really found a use for the Tab yet.......I loaded Sygic GPS software on it and in the car it's a great GPS and I can read the numbers without my reading glasses. I have a bike fuel app as well........basic but it works.
Music and Video players are good so I've put some of that stuff on.
Both of us only mainly use our smartphones as basic phones.........we have computers to do the rest.
-
I use also the Sygic GPS software on my Iphone4 works really well :thumb
Just hard to see without coke bottles :grin
-
Iphone 4S for me i use google maps and navigon for my GPS, as well as using it as my speedo, we are an apple based house, and i know mine works, i just did 5,000km of testing with all my apps and only had two instances where we could have gone the shorter route, but it still got us there.
the Google Maps app is becoming my major app as it finds everything without having to go mucking around looking for points of interest.
my iphone worked seamlessly with my Sena unit as well.
-
I've got an iPhone 3GS, quite some years old now and seems to function just fine thank you!
I've also got an iPad 2, my missus has an iPhone 5 and an iPad 3!

-
Iphone 5 which replaced a Htc desire hd.
Works ok but will replace it after 2 years as i normally do anyway.
Google maps works just fine & it operates well with the scala headset.
-
nexus :well wished id gotten samsung galaxy. got one for the wife and sooo much better, moooore user friendly and easier to personalize and funtionalize
-
I have a simple flip samsung that has great battery life and rural coverage (Next G). I can pair it with the autocom direct or through the Zumo660. I can look up weather and news for no extra cost.
-
$200 Samsung Galaxy Ace that does all I want and then more. Previously I was a dyed-in-the-wool Nokia owner, but didn't like their operating system- preferred to go with the masses on Android.
-
Currently have a Motorola Defy however I plan to replace it with a Sony Xperia Z 4G. The Xperia is dust and water resistant which suits me in a tropical climate, it's also apparently quite robust which I like.
Update.......... I now have the Sony Xperia Z, got it on a plan and the girl at bFone Zone threw in a case and gave me $15 off the (universal) vehicle mount that I'll be using on the bike. Overall very happy.

got to change my vote as some idiot* lent his trailer to one of sons. had keys in pocket under phone for the lock to secure hitch and as said idiot* pulled phone out and placed said phone on bumper bar :o . idiot* said to self "don't forget to pick up and replace to pocket"! anyway idiot* forgot :|||| , drove off to do other stuff. idiot* went to use :phone phone and :cuss realised what HAS happened. ring ring talk talk to supplier stop, suspend and found was eligible for "upgrade". as it turned out the nexus was a disappointment and very basic (not reason for loss as no insurance) and replace with galaxy s4 (what a devise) and starting to love it :rockon . nisi has s3 4g so had some experiences with setups
legend:

-
Samsung galaxy S II, plan to replace it with an S4 or Note variant, must research more
-
got to admit losing the nexus does have it advantages. love the s4! it :rockon recommend it to anyone :thumbs
-
I am weighing up options, I am pondering to change or not, we have so many apple products in the house, 2 iPhones, 2 iPads, docking stations in house and shed, plus with all the money paid for apps, just not sure what to do....
-
I have the Galaxy S3 after having had an iPhone 3GS for 2 years. I prefer the S3 in terms of function and what you can do with it. While the iPhone "user experience" is better, I'm unlikely to shift back to Apple.
However, the S3 isn't as reliable with my Sena SMH10 (occasional connection issues, difficulty with voice dialing, etc.). If Mr Samsung fixed that is be totally happy.

Loving my Sony Xperia Z. Got soaked with rain on the dash of the bike while I was riding back from Maryborough, no problems very water resistant with all external ports sealed. Fell face down off the bike onto the bitumen, no worries very tough screen. Battery lasts for ages, 3 days + with normal usage, and it works seamlessly with my Interphone F5 bluetooth on my helmet, phone calls at 100kph+ perfectly clear and the bluetooth works very well for music. The phone is blue ticked (Telstra rural usage tick) and when we stayed at a small pub north of Bundy I had reception when others were struggling, this is important for me because I go to remote areas for work quite often.
I'm not getting paid by Sony but I've used and seen a lot of phones and this one has impressed me.
The young fella just got one after his Samsung Galaxy S3 fell 2 feet onto a table and the screen shattered, he was quoted over $250 to replace the screen so he cut his losses and gave up on it.
-
Nice one Bear. The Sony X was one of three choices for me - along with Gal S4 and HTC One - I realise my Gorillla Glass 3 may shatter easily - but seems there are plenty of protective covers one can use.
Looks like Jellybean version of Android is rock solid with bluetooth comms etc
Cheers, Diesel
-
I hadn't caught up with Gorilla glass shattering. I knew it was virtually scratch-proof.
I have a case for mine which will help a bit I guess, if I drop it.
-
...Looks like Jellybean version of Android is rock solid with bluetooth comms ...
My S3 has JellyBean 4.1.2... with my issues. I recommend you try it out with any required device before you buy if possible.... or wait a few months to see what appears in the forums.

I'm amazed! :eek
Whilst ogling at my amazement I'm remembering my Nokia 2680. Great phone, good address book and good photo's, for the technology of the day. It did exactly what I wanted - 'til some persons of a lesser sub existence decided to steal it.
Went to get a new one and Nokia had 'moved on' from that model to a 'new, better, slicker' model, which made me by my first I-phone 6 months later.
Have to say my 4S has served me well for three years now.
-
Have had iPhone for work since they came out. Now have a 5 and my own iPad. A proverbial house full of Apples. Have always found them good to use and very few problems. Am hearing good reports from the Android based users and I like that things are improving across the board.

So Streak, what you're saying is you have in your system, an Apple car with an Apple engine and gearbox, and Apple clutch, Apple diffs and an Apple stereo, all of which, I presume, sync pretty well together and you're having no real hassles that come to the front of your mind.?
However, some of your mates have got newer, different toys...
Do I paint a picture here?

Yep I would say you are right, everything works without a hitch :thumb
but it is what works for me, others like to do different things, I am always looking and observing, I never close my mind to something different, but at the moment, I am all appled up...

I just copied the ST1300 Worshop Manual .pdf onto my Galaxy S4.
Now I can break down anywhere! :crackup
Loving the ease which Android works as an OS - the manual got copied onto the 32Gb removable micro SD card in the phone.
Same when I went travelling - just dragged a couple of movies over the the phone's drive and watched them. :thumbsup
-
If you have dropbox account, you can park the file there.
-

Yes - but then I can only break down in a 3G or 4G area! :wink1
And 52Mb out of 32Gb is bugger all to allot to this resource. :thumbs
-
Now updated to Samsung S4 :thumb
-
Best not to have a phone smarter than the operator. Thats why I just have a flip mobile. I am having a look at the comments on other options though :think1

Smart idea :clap :thumbs just copied the ST1100 manual to the SD card on my Sony XperiaZ. Could save some grief on the side of the road somewhere :thumb .
-
I think the 1100 manual is on my phone (dropbox), but I( wouldnt want to try read it on there as I would go blinder I think.. The Tablet should be ok tho.
-
I've looked at it on my phone and it's easily read, the large screen helps.

I was impressed with my wifes Samsung Note so I have just bought myself a Note II. Sold my Motorola Xoom tablet (I'm going to miss the large screen), and unpowered my old Nokia 5110. I'm really impressed with how well set up the Note is, and now I can make a dash for the ST1100 and fit a mount for the Note!
-
:dred11 Samsung Galaxy POCKET... its a low IQ smartphone,, pity I'm not smart enuff to use it all. I use the gps and also the speed tracker thingy... I'll play around with it and hopefully understand it more... maybe it can teach me new tricks.
I got a Samsung GOOGLE Nexus now,, and I'm a bit smarter too

Don't have any sort of either Smarts or Phone.
The young fella has one of those Samsung Flip up things ,but I cannot use it because I can't hear it.
Where is the on /off function and is there a loudness adjuster ? like the throttle thingy on the ST.
Cheers , Winston66, From the rural of WA.

Samsung S2 4G Telstra, works a treat.
Bought it s/h 2 year ago still a great phone, not an apple lover, tied too much into there own software etc. Each to their own though. My Mrs and little Mrs swears by them, me at them ( phone that is ).Problem is later phones are too big more like a tablet than a phone, but once again each to there own :wht11

I recently upgraded from Galaxy S II to Note III. Great phone, and the photos are excellent.
Google maps work well too

Took the pics of the Corbin Smuggler with the Note III - photos are excellent .
Had to upgrade to a larger Ram mount though...small price to pay :thumb
-
Also very important for the Note III, the battery lasts 3 days with normal use, and about 12 hrs with heavy internet, photo taking and navigation. The S II lasted about 2 hrs under the same usage
-
I've been using an iPhone 3GS for the past three and half years now and have no reason to up-grade or change to any other brand of phone. The iPhone does everything that I need it to, I carry it within a leather flip top case (into the second one now) and I am never without it in my pocket, I've dropped it a few times without damage to it, thanks to the case, it pairs brilliantly with my Sena, and Motorola bluetooth in my cage, and all the Apple applications, music, etc, that Ive downloaded work perfectly.
We're fairly Apple orientated at home, both my sons have iPhone 4S's, my wife uses an iMac computer, I use a Mac Pro Laptop (Retina), and we all have Ipad3's, and iPods, which don't get used all that often now because so much music can be stored on our phones.
I've always been of the opinion, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it", and it ain't broke yet!! :grin

Depends on what you do on your phone to define "normal use".......... for me that's about 1 out-going (or less) call a week.
