Unfortunately due to lack of time to ride at the moment my Pan has only been out once a week so after a brief discussion with a friend who isn't in a position to buy at the moment I've entered into a bike share agreement.
Two riders, pay for fuel used, cost $53 per year to add another onto the insurance for 20% use, shared servicing and rego costs and the best thing is my 2009, 18,500 kms bike might get the use it deserves.
Does anyone have experience of bike sharing, good or bad?

Could be a minefield if something seriuosly goes wrong with the bike or an accident happens. What about speed cameras or red light cameras. Would you need to keep a log book on use times. I think both parties need to agree to 50/50 split on costs without exception before agreeing to enter share. Would not feel comfortable in this situation with someone except family members.

I have heard that you never lend anyone your chainsaw or your wife, as they will both come back *&^%$#! :eek
The same could possibly apply to bikes.

I don't think you'd be handing over your pride and joy to someone you didn't trust.

My Brother (twin) so how much closer can you get, constantly asks me to take his bike (goldwing 1800) for a ride. I always say no as the thought that something might happen (and it does) and the hurt i would feel at damaging his pride and joy prevents me from riding it even though he is keen for me to try. Murphy rides on the highway as well and I don't want to meet him.

Funny I'm in the same position - I only ride here in OZ 3 months of the year and the ST1100 will sit for 9 months :(
That's a serious shame and not great for the bike.
I chatted with cop who helped me buy the bike and may ride is a bit while I'm gone.
He said there is no issue sharing a bike as long as insurance coverage is correct.
I figure sharing would be
Break it fix it and both split the cost of collision/comprehensive insurance...which for a $5k bike not all that much.
Split the cost of regular maintenance. Pay your own gas and tickets.
Think if the riders are mature and responsible there is not an issue with it.
Thinking of doing it with some of the riders from Canada notably this pair - save them shipping their bikes to Aus. It's a great read BTW

Look - the STs are big time durable machines which is why the cops used them and they stay at the top of the desirable used touring bikes.
I can't believe how solid my 20 year ride is.
If one is doing a lot more riding then maybe he pays a bit more tires come replacement time.
The insurance coverage is key from what friend says.
