Title: Intermittent problem
Post by: Cerebral Knievel on March 28, 2013, 11:54:41 PM
I have experienced what i would describe as a fuel supply problem 3 times.
The first time was not long after i bought the bike on a quick trip up Mt Cootha.
The 2nd being after a quick stop in Warwick on the way home from middleton & the 3rd was this afternoon on the way to work.
Each occasion the tank felt very hot , although air temp readings varied from 26 to 33 degrees with 3 bars on the gauge. No dash lights were on , with the bike seeming to stutter like it was suffering a fuel supply problem. Anything approaching an incline made the problem noticeably more severe.
Fuel quantity in tank varied each time from nigh on empty to nearly full.
I am doing a oil /oil filter , spark plug & air filter change tommorrow - is there anything specific i should  check or look for while i'm "under the hood" ?

Hi CK,

Yes could be vapour lock, due to heat.
Is your fuel usage good.
Change fuel filter,
Place Nulon injector cleaner in tank OR
200ml of metho (aids in the removal of water), AND/OR
Start and warm her up and spray carby cleaner in each carby.
Drain tank, clean out with metho, check flow rate of pump.  (I did this on my 11, rubbish in tank and on filter)

How old is the fuel pump, or you may some rubbish in the fuel tank that is getting caught by the fuel pump filter.

Know doubt someone will have the right answer for you. The above step or steps is what I would do for my carby, but the 11 does not have EFI.  (EFI= Efficient Fuel Indicator, just joking  :rofl)

Cheers
Dave

Tough love turtle - ouch , you nearly hurt my feeling  :rofl

Fuel consumption has been steady in the time I have owned it - sits around 18km/litre.
I have just had a quick squizzy at the link diesel posted regarding fuel filter removal & came to the conclusion that obtaining a new fuel pump & gasket would be the way to go before opening up the lower tank. I will attempt to get these Saturday & fully expect to pay out the jacksie for them  :-[

Abe , the fuel filter set up has been clearly designed for me & should be renamed M.F.I
( Made For  :cuss ing Idiots )  :crackup

If the heat from the tank you are feeling is around the crotch area then I suggest you check the starter solenoid as that was what was causing the prob with mine,,
Just a thought
