NSW/ACT RTE Bundeena Saturday 22nd June 2013

This is an easy run for Sydney members to catch up for lunch, meet OzSTOC members old and new,
Approximate Distance from Sydney is 60km, so you dont have to be out all day on the bike!

Unable to attend (working).

Word of caution.  (Lived there for many years, so did my ST) There is and will be, plenty of push bike riders, motorbikes and cars that have absolutely no idea, and have no regard to the road rules, SO BE CAREFUL.  This area is patrolled regulary and the speed limits are enforced.

As this is a Royal National Park (second oldest in the world) there will be a entrance fee, pending on your riding time.  I will PM those attending with a password for entry only.

Was just down there seeing my late brothers partner the other day and the ride was great, ocean and beaches beautiful.

Put me down tentatively, I have family coming from OS between 19/6 to 22/7 and will be travelling around with them, however, will be trying to get to the various RTE's during this time.  :rockon

p.s. The rangers will let you through without payment if you tell them that you're going to Bundeena.

Terese and I are keen to go. We have been there numerous times and enjoy the cafe, beaches and ferry (if you want to visit Cronulla). A sizeable car park on the beach side of the cafe is viewable and reasonably safe to leave the bike if u want to go for a walk around the bay or ride the ferry.

BTW it's no secret that mentioning Bundeena to the rangers negates the fee because the Royal National Park is an alternate route to Sydney (and Bundeena which is technically outside the park). So, in a sense u r not visiting the park but passing thru. The rangers do have trouble tho with cheapskates who use this as a means of free entry to the park. However, there are regular patrols and those without a receipt are fined large fees on a regular basis.

No doubt, Abe has had chats with rangers as I have and knows they are not impressed with having to chase these people rather than look after the park and wildlife as much as they would like.

Can't believe Saaz or Abe won't be there. Slap my face. Bucket of cold water. And maybe not Rubencan (or Rubencant). It's like St.George didn't really slay the Dragon - IT CAN'T B TRUE.  :eek.  :crazy

So at this stage it's only ST.George, Mother Teresa and the Dragon that are possible, probable certainties.

Hey, if necessary we can always change the date so the stalwarts can come 2.  :think1

Im new to the club and would like to put a tentative in for this ride. Hopefully this will give me a chance to meet some of my fellow NSW members.
I have recently brought an st1100 and love it dearly.

After driving around the Kiama/Jamberoo/Kangaroo area I think a RTE should be slotted in around there before too long  :think1 as there are some magic back roads that I had forgotten about.

Looking forward to Saturday's ride to Bundeena. Mother Terese is not coming cause she wants to watch our daughter Danika's dancing expo. This is understandable given that Danika has been practicing many forms of dance and music for more than a decade now and she is very skilful and beautiful to watch (bias showing of course). But I also know it's just an excuse for not having to put the warm gear on and sit on the back of a motorbike in Winter.  :well

I will miss the expo and hopefully I will enjoy the beauty and the entertainment of fellow STriders instead. Just as well that Abe and Saaz are not coming cause they are truly boys that only myopic mums and wives could love.  >:() Only joking lads, I will really miss u!  :butt  :rofl

BTW if anyone coming from south of the Gong wants to meet at my place - it is on the way to Bundeena - PM me and I will send details and a cupla maps. I would like to LEAVE here by 10:30am so I can figure out the best place to park the bikes for the group photo and also make a brief stop at Bald Hill at Stanwell Tops to take in the gr8 views.

New member A2Z is from the Gong and will be there with his newly acquired 2009 Red Dragon 1300 - I forgot to tell u A2Z - my dragon thinks all other RED ST's are HOT  :H and dragons as well.

Otherwise, really wish I was going to Bundeena as have never been there.  Another ride there is on the cards  :hatwave

Having been on a few rides now where weather was perfect and am now thinking what to do if conditions are really unfortunate.

I am happy to go to a RTE if it's only a drizzle, however if tomorrow is pouring by 10:30am I will consider not going to Bundeena. One weather report today said a big storm was coming tomorrow afternoon. They don't always get it right and the winds can change and blow the rain away just as fast.

How about those considering the Bundeena RTE, Log in at 8am, 9am and 10am tomorrow and I will have posted a weather report in the Bundeena thread. Generally the Gong and the National Park have very similar weather.

Well at 7am all is dry with high cloud coverage.

8am - most of the sky is now blue - no sign of rain.

9am - clouds are back, there's rain in them but not for hours yet.

No more reports unless it starts pissin' down.

On a rainy day we had a roll-up to this RTE that could be expected with the weather like it was. A couple of surprise attendees tho, who didn't indicate they were coming but came anyway. I call them STars, ie, ST anonymous riders. You can see in the photo that we have DougSTar and ShazSTar. Doug and Sharon are from West Wollongong and that's what surprised me being from the Gong as well. Anyway, they enjoy the OZstoc site and decided to come along. Good one guys.  :thumbs They were riding a very nicely converted white ST1100 ex-police bike.

As it turned out, the rain was only 15 minutes b4 arriving at Bundeena and another 15 mins at the Gong end for A2Z, DougSTAr, ShazSTar and I. Also attending was Neale from Harrington Park. Waiting to find out how his ride home went.

We had a good chat and a good meal.  :p :popcorn

A2Z had his first ride with the club on his newly acquired 2008 red dragon 1300 and is joining those who are going to Ebor for Christmas in July. A2Z and I enjoyed a short ride to Mt. Kembla lookout last week. Both of us are working on getting the wives on the bikes but that will take time and good weather.  :|||| A2Z's name IS really long because it is a Spanish custom to add the prefix 'De ' plus the name of the village where the family originated.  :eek

Neale also had his first ride with the club after travelling to Melbourne only 3 weeks ago to pick up his 2009 Red ST1300 - another dragon!

Yep, a good day, apart from the weather.  Great to get my first RTE out of the way and to meet some nice people. Highly recommend the Passionfruit Cafe at Bundeena for a good coffee and a pie (steak and mushy was excellent). The ride over was lovely and sunny when leaving home and got progressively darker the closer to the coast that I got. First rain at Heathcote and didn't stop from there to Bundeena. Took up residence in the cafe and waited for the hoards to arrive. First came Doug and Sharon, another 2 first timers and then S George and A2Z. Had a great chat over some lunch and then figured we were not going to get the desired photo at the wharf, so go the young lady at the cafe to take the mug shot. At least I had my shirt on.  Rain then eased enough for metro get the wet weather duds out of the top box and then we parted ways.  The ride home was about the same as the ride in. The further from the coast, the better the weather. Rain stopped at Heathcote again(must be something about that place). Uneventful ride home to the lounge, the dog and the heater.  I did fit the Sena SMH10 to the helmet yesterday and am amazed at the performance of it. Great to listen to music whilst riding and the sound quality whilst making a phone call was also excellent. Well worth the money. Anyway, a good day with good people. Looking forward to the next one. Thoroughly enjoyed my first RTE. The ride there, and back through the Royal National Park was amazing. Even stopped at Bald Hill on the way back to watch the paragliders. Bundeena itself however was very wet, but the great company and good food made up for it.  Looking forward to my next one.
