Hi Everyone,
Here is my profile:
My name is John 'Harry' Potter, I live in South Perth WA and I ride a dark blue ST 1100 ABS 1998 Model. I am a Pom (but I do not whinge) and have lived here in Oz for 20 years. I have been biker for ever and still use my ride every day for work and pleasure. I am very happily married to my wife Jan and we have two kids in their 20's and 30's.
Below is the boring bit
I have thirty five years experience as an educator. I completed a Graduate Degree/Diploma in Education in the late 70’s, and a training career as a specialist Physical Education teacher in the United Kingdom.
Following this, I developed skills and knowledge as a trainer/instructor in the emerging area of competency based training in Recreation Management. It was in this area, in the late 80’s/early 90’s that I gained a Masters Degree in Leisure Management from Sheffield University and began one of many spells as an international trainer, assessor and presenter.
My four year action research thesis on Corporate Health Management gained a Distinction and was highly praised by the eminent management consultant, Dr Stanley Parker as “a blueprint for any organisation wanting to embark on a cost effective and productive health management program”.
I was recruited as the European trainer/instructor for the Universal Fitness Institute of America, based in London. My role was to prepare potential instructors for placements in health clubs, recreation centres and leisure facilities. This role coincided with my appointment in 1992/3 as a Fellow of the British Association of Trainers, the highest honour bestowed upon training professionals who make significant contributions to the development of industry education and training at national level.
During the early 90’s I returned to full time education at Kingsway College, in London, and developed a national training centre for fitness instructors which was one of the few industry training courses for fitness professionals based upon the newly introduced national competency standards.
In1994, while working in the area of national competency standards, I embarked upon studies for a Doctorate in Management at Edith Cowan University in Western Australia. As part of my studies I taught at Central TAFE as a part time lecturer where I then became Principal Lecturer in the School of Health and Community Services at Mt Lawley Campus between 1997 and 2005.
During this period I held various voluntary management positions in training and development with Fitness Western Australia and Fitness Australia, where as Manager of the Training Unit, I helped develop the national competency standards for fitness professionals.
I now own a training consultancy called TRAINING WORX(Australia) Pty Ltd which develops implements and maintains management training programs from Certificate to Advanced Diploma level in a variety of partnerships with the resources industry, schools and colleges, public institutions and the corporate sector.
My specialist areas of expertise are in management training and professional development for trainers, instructors and educators working in competency based programs.
I was not sure what to write here so I put in some stuff from my website which is due to be launched in a couple of weeks (hopefully)
Regards John 'Harry' Potter
