Hi everybody
I currently ride a 1999 ST1100 (you know, ABS TCS and CBS) had it for about 6 years and I've had the seat re-shaped and it's also got a new shock. I want to get better springs in the front end and then it should be right.
If I could move onto a 2007 ST1300 for a changeover of about $3000 would it be worth it? (I really like the elec screen but wouldn't have traction control)
Some of you blokes have made this move and apart from being the newer model what are the good points?
Does the 1300 buffet the rider as much as the 1100?

Its a personal choice, but I reckon Smart move Brad. After watching the ABS and TRC demos at the Ulysses AGM I would suggest ABS is the must have. The 1300 gives great coverage from the fairing and even better if you upgrade the screen to a Bikequip one - 1 inch wider each side and 1 inch taller with lip to guide air higher. My pillion gave that mod the thumbs up for moving the buffeting away from her helmet, making it a quieter ride.
Cheers

Just based on $3000 for 8 years newer makes sense to me.....but how about Colour, k's, condition, service history ???

If it helps Brad I found the Honda seats on the 1300 more comfortable ( but not great) than the 1100, Chris also put small arm rests on the 1300 Topbox that made me feel more secure, especially when I am having a nana nap.
I enjoy the 1300 more than the 1100,
A pillion prospective :thumb

Don't do it!!! The 1300 just isn't as pretty as the 1100, all those hard edges and sharp bits compared to the svelte sexy curvy lines of the 1100 :wink1 The 1100 looks like it's going fast even at a standstill. .. You know it makes sense.. :thumb :hatwave :clap

Ya not biased are ya bear lmao

I've got to admit that the ST1100 looks like an ST1100 and nothing else whereas you need a trained eye to pick out an ST1300 when it's in a crowd. Should I own one then I will pick them out better.

Wait 'til they ask you what model Beemer it is. I've had question several times over the years.

I've had heaps of people ask me about my 'Goldwing'! :eek. Seriously just because it's gold in colour doesn't make it a Goldwing :-(((

I wouldn't either (unless I could afford both).
-
I have had both and prefer the ST1300 :blu13 but I would recommend you take one for a ride yourself to see if it's right for you before making a decision :runyay
But then again for a changeover price of $3000 I would jump at it :grin

Thanks Shiney
I've secured the bike and should have it tomorrow, guess if it's not to my liking I'll not be going backwards if I sell it.
Will be hard to not like the elec screen, bigger panniers and higher handlebars but we'll see.

I can't see you not liking the ST13, as it feels very familiar to an ST11 rider.
-
Why move have them both :grin
-
That's what I keep hearing from my 14 year old.
-
I had the option to keep the 1100 when I moved to the 1300...... But the bikes where so identical in there rolls that I wouldn't do either bike justice by juggling between them, I can old ride one at a time. Our Bike not used as a daily commuter at all.
But here they are together before they where separated.......the 1100 has gone to a good home within the OzSTOC family.

Yeah, they would make a good team for 2 riders from the one household.
-
It was considered VERY briefly, but I just have no interest in being a rider, I like to be chauffeured :grin
And the operation to extend me from the knees by 10" was still on the elective surgery list.
Pockey :grin

How would the ST1100 look with a set of smaller wheels front and rear, say 16 inch.
It'd be like the kids dirt bikes that you can get with 2 size wheels for when they need a taller bike (how's that for being politically correct?).

Brad,
I've owned two ST1100's and now on the 13. For a taller rider, I'm 6'3, I really appreciate the advantage of the adjustable screen. Fitted Helibars and now I don't have to lean forward to the bars which is a great advantage with back and wrist strain on a long trip. The standard headlights are about the same but alot of the group fit aftermarket lights anyway. The othe big advantage is that I have long legs and they were always touching the fairing on the ST1100 and now they don't come near the fairing on the ST1300.
Just to muddy the waters for what it is worth.
