Title: Maybe a st1300 in the shed at years end?
Post by: Roadrunner on May 22, 2013, 01:06:09 PM
:hatwave  Just a new member considering a st1300 at years end.
Currently on my 2nd VFR800 this one kitted for the long ride.
Getting on a bit and looking for something more comfortable but not without a bit of handling and grunt.
So looking for a lot of ride reviews and members opinions etc,
Have been riding since 61 and had a  variety of bikes from 400cc to 1400cc

Welcome Laurie,

There will be some fantastic information about the ST1300 here, and all the good faces will post there honest thoughts here as well, many of the membership have owned the ST1100 and moved to the ST1300.

I am looking forward to seeing a few thoughts and opinions as well!

Cheers

Welcome Roadrunner. If you are thinking in terms of a new ST1300 there have been some great deals around for old stock in the last month or so.

Welcome Laurie.
You've fallen among friends here.  There's a few FarRiders and Ulyssians on the Forum.
This is probably the biggest and certainly the best "brand/model" forum in Oz.  It's huge in USA also.  There is no question you could ask that isn't covered somewhere here or there.

We'll see you on an RTE sometime.  I see you're in Capalaba- there's plenty of members in SE Qld.

G'day Roadrunner, welcome to the forum :hatwave

Like many of the guys here I have ridden many different bikes over the years and have found the ST1300 to be by far and away the best bike I have ever ridden. It is great for touring, has great handling and plenty of grunt.
The only things that need to be changed (in my opinion) are the seat and exhaust.
I say the exhaust because I find the bike to be too quite and I like people to be a little more aware that I'm around. :eek

Anyway as has been said, go and take one for a ride yourself and I'm sure you'll love it :thumb

Cheers

Hi Roadrunner, you would not regret the purchase of an ST1300. I owned an ST 1100 which I loved. Then went to an FJR 1300 Yamaha which is also a great ride. I recently purchased a new ST 1300 and have now put 3000 ks on it. I absolutely love it. In my opinion it is by far the best mix of performance, comfort, handling, braking and refinement on the market. Exactly what I want...a long distance mile cruncher. I also think the bike is too quiet as the cage drivers do not use their mirrors. Just fitted a set of Staintune pipes...love the sound. Buy one and you will have a great ride.

Welcome Roadrunner
I've got an 1100, had it for about 7 years and have just purchased a 1300.  Both bikes come highly recommended and I wasn't looking to change from the 1100 but silly me was looking through the classifieds a few weeks back and I came across a local ad for a 1300.  Too good a deal to pass up and next thing I know I've bought it.  I know, I know, impulse buying.  Bought each bike without test riding.
Seems like members of this forum have "graduated" to ST's over the years.

Hi Roadrunner and welcome to OzSTOC.  You would not regret purchasing at ST for touring.   My son has a VFR750 that he wants to kit out for long distance touring, so I wouldn't mind seeing a photo or two of what you've done to your VFR.

Enjoy your time here mate.

It took me ages to locate that sticker and now I think I am going to have to do it all over again. I haven't ridden an St1300 yet and I have to delay riding for a while as I have to see an orthopaedic surgeon next week. I did ride a St1100 briefly when they first came out. Sucker for a V4. Amongst other things I have had a VF100F, a Vmax and two Vfr's. A buggered arm at the moment is preventing me from riding and I have to see a surgeon on Tuesday so everything is on hold til the arm is fixed one way or another. But I do think an St13 would be a great bike for another Iron Butt ride. Getting on a bit to do them on a Vfr.
Cheers
Laurie

Take your graphic file of the Roadrunner to your local Signwriter.  It's a pretty simple task for them to convert it to a sticker. (My son was a signwriter)

Hi Roadrunner, if you are interested I would be happy to sell you my ST-1300, trust me when I say that I really don't want to sell it but having had a brain tumour removed very recently I have been banned from driving or riding for the next 12 months. This sort of time period would effectively rot my 1300, and I really don't want to see that happen. If you are interested drop me a message and I'll give you a ring and you and me can talk it over. It is a 2003 red ST-1300 with a bunch of current mods, too many to try to talk about. I live just outside Brissy, so it's relatively local for you. Sounds like a plan to me!!
