Mrs Diesel.....

Well, I dunno WHY I'm called Diesel - must smell like a truckie!   :P

Okay Okay! I ignored THIS warning once!

C'mon - if YOU haven't done it - you KNOW of someone who has! Darndest thing though - I was the ride leader for 13 STs that day and the bike would not start (after smoking out the carpark of the meeting point) - so I had to wave everyone away and suck up a $300 towing and flushing out bill! I GUARANTEE you - lesson has been learnt!

1st bike I bought for a case of beer. It was an IT265 which we affectionately called "Chainsaw" coz the forks and frame were that bent - you could seldom ride it for more that 8 seconds before being turfed off with the scrub turkeys.

Then came the 900 Bol d'or which I loved, a GPz900R which I babysat for a while and loved, a CB750 for commuting to Brissie, and now the ST13 - easily my fav!

I was born in Cottesloe, Sandgroper land, lived in Tassie (where I met my sister) oops - just kiddin! Moved to Canberra for a couple of decades and a bit, and have been living in the beautiful Sunshine State for 15 years and LOVE it!

I am a prepress manager (which is the computer artwork stage before the printing press) on Bribie Island.

I was going to buy a XX 'Bird for this bike, and had a few picked out to look at when I was inspired to consider endurance/distance riding to see a lot more of this fab country, so I found that the ST was a much better weapon for that purpose. (Ain't it so?)

Then I just put out a couple of emails around some forums (as I had not seen any STs on the roads up here since the cops stopped using the 1100) and, well, haven't you all come out of the woodwork! Now I enjoy the ST, riding with like-minded warriors, and even chatting with the same of this wonderful new forum. I guess I'd have to say that all is 'tickety boo'.

Thanks to you all who help make this a great place to be.

Cheers, Diesel

This is my ride...

I'm Mick and Tracee is the Mrs... This was taken on our first ride after I got my full open licence last May.  Only a beginner.

Also I don't own a Honda, instead it's a Yamaha V-Star 650 Cruiser...

G'day. I live in Maryborough (about 170k's north of Melbourne).
I'm 37 and married. No Kids (not going down that long scary road)
I started as a apprentice Graphic Reproducer completing my trade and working in the book Printing industry for 8 years before moving onto becoming a shareholder/partner (1 of 4) in a Typesetting Business (http://www.midlandtypesetters.com.au (http://www.midlandtypesetters.com.au)) servicing all the Major Book Publishers in Australia. We Focus on books ranging from Novels to University text books.

We also create eBooks for iPad, Kindle and many other reading devices. I have around 25 people working for me. Hence why I get to sit on forums all day. I do ALOT of research into new technologies and ways to implement them, as it is a constant fight to keep work in Australia and fight off competition coming out of India.

For all you people asking what a Typesetter does. Here is a video I found showing just a little of what I do.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uhnV21sL9UI&feature=fvsr (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uhnV21sL9UI&feature=fvsr)

Edit...yes I know...for what I do for a job I should be a better speller... Well. I never care enough to proofread anything I type on forums, so you'll have to live with deciphering my dribble...

I recently bought a black 2010 ST1300 with 0k's.
I've been riding on and off since I was little, but only recently got my road license.
I went from a Virago 250,
(http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e276/marcusstringer/34792_yamaha_xv250_virago.jpg)

straight to the 1300,
(http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e276/marcusstringer/Cropphotoshoped.jpg)
and haven't looked back. I've fallen completely in love with it.

I also live in Maryborough, but the one that's 280k's north of Brisbane!
I'm married and have three kids (2 girls and a lad).

I have owned a few bikes over the years and my first vehicle was a Yamaha DT175b road trail. Over the years I have stuck with road/trail bikes including a new 1982 Suzuki DR250, and a used mid eighties Honda XL250. Later I owned a nice little Yamaha 125 road bike (with panniers!), and then a 1997 Suzuki DR250. After watching the 'Long way round' videos I decided that I liked the idea of touring on a bike. I didn't know if I would like it so went for a reliable shaft drive Honda. I managed to get hold of a 1981 Honda CX500 shadow and a Honda CX500 custom (parts bike) for $1200. It didn't take much to revive the Shadow and I commuted to work on it and it never missed a beat even tho it had had a hard life. I ended up selling the Shadow for $1000 after I bought my 1983 Honda GL500 Silverwing Interstate. The Silverwings were never sold in Australia, and this one was imported from the US and converted to a CX650e engine. I bought it for $700 partly restored. I (mostly) finished rebuilding it and got it registered. The CX engined bikes are a great reliable bike and have a great sound and feel to them. The only problem is getting hold of good spare parts.

This is a photo of my Silverwing and I was just about to head off on my first solo long distance ride! LOVED IT!

Once I realised that bike touring was for me I decided that I wanted something that was known to be reliable and have a good parts supply.
After scanning the internet I found what the rest of you already know.. the ST suits the bill (and is shaft drive).
I was very lucky and got my hands on a 1998 Honda ST1100 (black) with 45000k's on the clock and one owner.
It has the original books and tools. I refer to it as the 'Black Mariah'!

This is a photo of the first trip on my ST with my wife Lisa.
I'm happy to say that my wife also enjoys touring on the ST.
Since this photo was taken I have fitted mirror wind deflectors and fairing wind deflectors, as well as a towbar.
I have also recently fitted new Bridgestone BT023 tyres and new brake pads.

I will be fitting LED flood lights, 12v outlet, and aim to fit a replacement/remade seat and better handlebar attachments (to improve the seating position).

I look forward to getting out there and having a ride with fellow ST riders!

I don't have a clever ST_Name for her; she's Ruby.  She's my third ST.  After 42,268 km on a 2000 ex-Police ST1100 and 26,890 on a 2004 ST1300, I needed to complete the Tri-color and have put 6483 km on Ruby since May.
I'm a "returned rider" after 14 years away from it, but it's not my first Honda, having rebuilt a Postie bike and commuted on it for a couple of years... but that was another country and another time...

You get to associate a certain kind of person with a type of bike (some HD stereotypes, Squids on Gixxers etc), and my experience has been that nice guys ride STs.    [group hug   :-*]

We've certainly had some good rides together and the general tenor on the Forum has been quite different to some squabble patches I've encountered elsewhere.

Looking forward to keeping it that way in this nice new format.

Nice bike Jinxy...............I did the same as you..............brought myself a 2006 V-Star 1100 when I was living in Brisbane, which I did enjoy riding.....but then I had a ride on a ST1100 which I really liked.............so finished up buying a 1300 which I love!

PS: I have a good mate in Brisbane who's wife is also with Qld Forensics............she lives at Dayboro.
Also, one of our Tasmanian forum members, Kev, is with the Forensic branch here in Tassie. Kev's on a bike ride to WA at the moment!
Anyway Jinxy..............nice looking bike mate!  ;)

Hi folks.
We're Barry and Marissa and live in Brisbane. My riding started out at 17 when I first got my L's and registered my Yamaha DT 175 trail bike. From there I progressed to an old silver tank XL 25 Honda and after that my first road bike, a CB 250RS (the only new bike I've ever brought). The CB 250 got me through my P plate stage and then I brought a Z650B Kawasaki. Since then I've had mainly touring style bikes including a GS1000S Suzuki, GS1100GK Suzuki, ST1100 Honda, K1200LT BMW, ST1300 Honda and my current ride another K1200LT.

My partner Marissa loves to ride as much as I do and we have enjoyed some great rides together and met some wonderful people along the way. I ride as often as I can with my local Redlands Ulysses branch, but family commitments tend to restrict me from riding as often as I'd like.

I have two kids, my eldest son has just got his bike "P" plates and recently brought himself a little ZZ-R250 Kawasaki. This has planted the seed in Marissa's mind of getting her bike licence too, and my daughter is also keen as mustard to get her bike licence when she becomes eligable in 12 months time.

Here's a pic of Marissa and my two kids Brendan and Cassandra doing a Q ride course.

Marissa looks fearful of the power of her bike!!  ;)

Here's our current ST1300 with a few BMW Farkles fitted and Marissa wanting to have a go at the controls.

Hi all

I waited until the new forum to post anything about me :)

Dad had a sloper BSA 350 single as a youg bloke. Upgraded to a Panther sloper single, then added a sidecar when he got married to mum.  So there are bikes in the family...

I have been riding road bikes since 1976.  First bike was a Honda CD175 parallel twin.  One of my sisters bought it new, my older brother bought it off her, and I bought it off him for $100.  I rode it from Victoria to Canberra in 1977 to go to University - 900kms on a 4 speed 175 along the old Hume Highway.  It was an adventure alright!

In Canberra I upgraded to a Suzuki GT750K waterbottle.  Three cylinder two stroke water cooled.  Wonderful sound, dodgy handling but it was the first model with disc brakes - unfortunately I did not have the option where they worked when it rained!  No engine braking, no brakes...  I fitted a full sport touring fairing to it after a very very cold trip back to Victoria.  Had heated grips, spotlight, upgraded headlight...sounds like what I have now but with a chain drive..hmmm.

In 1980 upgraded to a 1978 GS1000.  Changed all the gear over from the Suzuki.  Went everywhere on it, did it much easier than the Suzuki GT, but I stll miss that 3 cylinder...  had the rebuild the motor at 80,000kms, still have it next the the new bike...it will be back on the road sometimes just a matter of when...

In 2004 bought the 1996 police model ST1100.  The GS1000 had some aged related electrical problesm and was getting to me, so I did some reserach.  Found out I should have bought an ST11000 years ago as it ticked every requirement I had.  Reliable like a car, big tank and range, comfortable, full weather protection, shaft, solid handling...I must have not been following what was going on in the bike world.  I have only done 90,000kms since I bought it but up to 151,000kms - just the same as the GS1000 but with far less drama.

I don't think I have washed the bike since this, but I have changed the screen

An ST fan for about 10 years, I am vertically challenged and couldn't quite take up the 1100, so when word came out that mother Honda was to release the 1300, I immediately started doing serious homework.  I joined 4 US-based ST Forums, all as "John-DownUnder": ST1300.US (originally an old MSN site), ST-Riders (which became commercial and eventually disappeared), My-MC Touring, then ST-Owners (+ OxSTOC on Yahoo here in Oz).  All great sources of info and together learning lots about how to get the best out of our STs and accessories.   I still post to ST-Owners.com (great site) and occasionally to ST1300.US.com.

In 2002 Honda MPE only brought in the base model 1300 and so I wrote to Stuart Strickland and complained, but it was to no avail and all about our disastrous exchange rate with the Yen and comparative values.  So I waited another year and had my order placed for the first ST1300 Pro Honda could get here.  In October 2003, I took delivery and since then have had some ups and downs.  I progressively added lots of lovely farkles, some I wouldn't do again.  I travelled 127,000 km on her, including 26,000km around Europe in 2007 where we attended the annual European Pan Gathering in Austria, before selling a few months ago.  I've picked up a mate's 2008 ST1300 with only 20,000km on the clock.  In another thread I tell of the current farklemania that is consuming me at present with this new ST.

Catherine and me on the silver ST13:

A short-lived period when I owned 2 ST1300s:

Based in Brisbane, but having spent many years in north QLD, I am married to my childhood sweetheart and pillion-in-a-million, Catherine.  I learnt to ride on an RD350B and Catherine was my pillion when I purchased my first bike (a Honda 500/4) in 1975.

I cannot be blamed for the mods on this one - I bought it as is: 4-into-1s, gold painted frame, clip-ons, Triumph headlight, blacked-out engine and extra covers....

I've owned/ridden the following:

From the late 70's, I joined the Qld 4-Owners club and in early 80's the MRA.  We rode to the Easter races at Bathurst on many occasions, the Castrol 6-hour and did the Canberra 10,000 protest ride in 1980 (over a long weekend, there-&-back on an RD350B; no local Iron-butt back then).  I've done quite a few advanced rider training courses, beginning with Stay Upright when they first started back in the early 80s.  I've been lucky not to have any prangs whilst riding (although a couple of small very low speed incidents - touch wood).

I am also quite involved in motorcycle safety, acting as QLD rep for the Ulysses Club's Road Safety Committee, representing the Club on Transport & Main Roads' Qld Motorcycle Safety Advisory Group, and on TMR's Qld Road Safety Advisory Group as the motorcycling rep.  Check out the Facebook page I set up called "Motorcycle safety in Australia": https://www.facebook.com/pages/Motorcycle-safety-in-Australia/150079321697276 (https://www.facebook.com/pages/Motorcycle-safety-in-Australia/150079321697276)   I am a member of the MRAQ and would encourage all riders to join their state's MRA (or similar) to support those organisations trying to advance rider issues for us.

Cheers
John

Nice pics John................just wondering what type of seat that is on the red ST?
It's obviously lower than the standard seat..............I would love to be a little lower to the ground as I'm also slightly vertically challenged at 1700mm (5'7"). I'm ok moving the bike around on solid ground but more than a little uneasy on loose gravel.
I recently fitted a good quality sheepskin seat cover, which is great, but it put me up just that little bit higher  :-\

Hey all,

I do know some of you from rides I've been on and am pleased to meet the newbies.

They call me Jinxy. (Just because, no real reason "cough") I am 50 years old and a Forensic Crime Scene Officer with Qld Police. Been in the job since 1983 and love it. Had a few bikes and then after a fair time off bikes I brought a V-Star 1100 (2007) but did not really like the way it was on the crap roads we have in Qld so after riding a mates ST1100 I bought a ST1300 which I absolutely love. It is fairly distinctive with it's orange blazing and number 13 Pool ball logo. Well thats about it. I have averaged about 300 kilometres a week since I got the bike and have done 6 or 7 overnighters. Would not trade it for the world and am always hankering to ride it. If anybody comes up Bundy way let me know and I am more than happy to show you round. I have posted an attachment (Click to enlarge picture) showing before (at the top) and after the bling was put on (and yes I do make STella look like a scooter.)

I have just worked out how to put the large pic in so that is there as well now.

Having fun posting pics so here is one of a not too recent ride. I think this may be the one where Diesel got his nickname.

The wife & I took up riding in 2009 as the drought around West Wyalong meant
boating was out. I started on a Honda Vt400, She a Suzuki 250 Intruder.
In 2010, after we both got our licence's, Boss Dearest decided to just pillion
and the decision was made to move up to a comfortable, but sporty tourer.
We bought a 2008 ST1300 with zero kms from Griffith Motorcycle Centre.
With over 5000kms under the belt we are really enjoying getting amongst it all
and meeting some great friends.

Employers - NSW Ambulance Paramedic and NSW Fire & Rescue Retained Fire Fighter
at West Wyalong, & Regional Paramedic Volunteer for St John Ambulance
NSW Southern Region. I have also had 21 years with Telstra, ten years’ service with
8/13 VMR Armoured Corps Australian Army Reserve, and also ten years with NSW Rural fire service.

Nice colour ST Tony.  In 1975/76 I spent a short time at Wacol in the 2nd/14th QMI (called the CMF back then).  Did a radio course first, then was lined up for the gunnery course before I went on to other things, so missed out on driving  :-[  - only ever got to ride in the back of carriers at Tin Can Bay on a few weekend-warrior camps.  Were good times though.   Enjoy the ST.

Thanks John - Graphite Pearl is the colour. I went on to become a Trooper Crew Commander of the APC's for years before they finally said you cant be a Trooper Crew Commander and made me a Corporal. They were great fun. I met a lot of great people and got to waste heaps of tax payers dollars firing 30 & 50 Cal's and going on exercise all over Oz with soldiers from all round the world

Good thoughts, Rod.  I'll claim associations with both.  I do have the Easy Rider poster on my office wall.

==================================================================

ST Riders (The LiST)  is still operating, John:

http://www.st-riders.net/

There was some argy-bargy, but they seem to co-exist with ST Owners (http://www.st-owners.com/forums/) now.

Both well woth subscribing to.

We have enough members on the forum with Military service to start our own militia. I did 5 years in the SAS. (Saturdays and Sundays) carrying the GPMG - M60. Was attached to the "Queensland Ag College - First officer training unit". Only go the one hook up but had a ball.

I remember seeing Stone at uni when it was first released, who can forget that glint of the piano wire in the opening scene.
Almost put me off riding.

Hey, It wasn’t my fault I got into biking. My Dad rode when he was younger. My mate next door who, was a few years older rode as soon as he was able to, but it was mostly my sister’s fault. She was also a few years older than me and she bought a Honda 50cc scooter when I was just 14 years old.  I rode it around the bush near our house and was hooked for life.
My third bike, a Honda 350cc single cylinder thumper was a favorite of mine. Currently I ride a 2008 ST1300 and a 2006 Triumph Tiger, both great bikes.
Margy and I have two adult sons. One ride a Yamaha R1 and the other, a Triumph Street Triple 675.  Our grandson is only two yrs old and hasn’t got a motorized bike YET!
I was born in Bundy and am still here! I’ve only riden with OSToc once at the time of this post but will keep in touch and will join another ride when time and work commitments permit.

Good to see a local!!
I'n sure that we're going to organise a ride to (at least) the Mapleton/Maleny area at some stage!

I think that with all the guys with Military, Police and Emergency services experience we could start our own small country!!
I'm a sparky by trade, so I may be of some use!

To insert photos first you need to sign up with photobucket! It makes it much easier nowadays.

OK, as already said, I was in the RAAF for 21 Yrs 10mths. Became an Elecfitter (Aero eleco), and some years later the trade changed to Avionics Technician.

I started riding i about 1980 with a Kwaka Z250, that I managed to crash into a car and caravan. Got another Z250, that was upgraded to a Katana GSX650G (650cc shaft drive Suzuki).

I was sent to Malaysia for three years, where I ended up getting married. That put an end to riding for about 15 years. After moving to WA after being made redundant (yep from the Airforce, who woulda thunk it), I built a house, was educating the kids, when I saw a bike that looked nice so I took it for a ride. Bad move, I bought it A ZZR1100

Had to fix the clutch on that at some stage.

Did I say I worked on Choppers??

I guess it's my turn now;
I started riding at the age of 17 on one of these:
(http://i143.photobucket.com/albums/r150/tomcat5252/C50.jpg) and added saddle bags and a 'screen before I sold it and moved to Sydney for work as a stock controller with Dunlop in Silverwater.
That didn't work out as it should have so I joined the Army, posted to 42 Platoon Randwick with LARC amphibs, before changing to Air Dispatch at Richmond. It was here that I got back to bikes with a Honda CB100 like this:
In '77 got my discharge, and moved onto a Suzuki TS 400 similar to this one:
(http://i143.photobucket.com/albums/r150/tomcat5252/SuzukiTS40076.jpg), but this was a tad slippery in country frost, so I moved back to road bikes with a Yammy 250:
This lasted about 3 years before I quit bikes for about 20 years.
By then I was single again, had a job driving buses  - still doing that :) - lived about 4 block from the bus depot so I went crazy and bought this thing!
Huge mistake!
I felt like an elephant riding a mini bike.
So that went away and along came my Hornet in 2005, which I had until June this year
(http://i143.photobucket.com/albums/r150/tomcat5252/petersbike7thjan2007.jpg). It was (and probably still is) a fantastic machine, but being a naked meant it was too cold in winter.
Then I saw the dream machine - an ST1300 - it's an '04 model with 56K on the clock, hardly a mark anywhere and a pure joy to ride
(http://i143.photobucket.com/albums/r150/tomcat5252/Mynewtoy.jpg)
And here's the old bloke who owns it:

Employment: I now work for CDC Hillsbus out of Dural. Previously was a coal miner underground for 25 years in the Central West of NSW.

Couch,

I was on holiday in Phuket (again, I worked in malaysia at the time about 1983) and one of the Bar owners approached GraGra with an offer of free room and drink for the weekend, if he wanted to come down and chat with a bunch of RAAFies on holiday. He did, and it was a good afternoon with a fair bit of beer and lots of entertaining chat. I think he enjoyed it as well, as we werent trying to piss in his pocket, just having fun

Well, unlike many here, I did not get into riding a Motorcycle until I was in my late 20's. After arriving in Australia from the UK in 1990 (Actually lived in Wollongong in the 60's as my parents were migrants from the UK, that later decided that Aus was not for them. I had been here (Aus) for long enough to know I didn't want to go back to the land of coal and snow either)

I worked for SECWA on arriving in WA for about a year as a sparky then had to get out after we had our 3rd stop work/ strike at the depot that I worked at (I was trained as a "maintenance" electrician, repairing light to heavy industrial CNC and PLC machines, plus installation work in the same areas, arrived in Aus to find that there are millions of us maintenance sparkies here, in the UK you have your pick of jobs, but it is still the UK  ::)).

Anyway, got into another area of work altogether then, and needed to get a second vehicle to go with the trusty Nissan Bluebird wagon (1983 series 1) we had. I didn't really need another big vehicle just to truck my butt around, so had bike lessons and got myself a Suzuki GSX250 (POS, in the worst sense).

Then on the Yammy XJ750 some years later, I got rear ended while waiting at a stop sign, a guy in a ute, came up behind me at speed, ramming my bike into oncoming traffic, I actually saw it coming in time to leap off to the left of my dear bike, missing going under his front wheels (Am I lucky or what?).

Geez Woody! I had to read this three times! This is ASTOUNDING!  Great foresight mate - would hate to think what would have happened if you weren't so vigilant. Great story. Thanks to everyone for the great posts - they are VERY entertaining.

Keep 'em coming.

Cheers, Diesel

G'day,

I live in Cairns, been here for about 13 years since moving across from Darwin. I've had my ST1100 since March last year when I took a Sunlander trip to Bundy to pick it up. (1st and last trip by train!) . My first ride was back to Cairns, Rocky - Cairns 14hrs.
My history as far as bikes .. CT125, XL250, XR250, YZ250, IT490, GN400, CB900, HD FXE, Trumpy Bonny, VT750, XF650 and of course ST1100AX. There were others but I don't really recall them.
My missus, Scooterbear, rides as well, she's currently on a DN01 that is rapidly becoming what I believe will be the most customised one in Oz. She's been riding for about 6 years starting on a 50cc scooter, then 150, 250, 400 and then the DN01.
Here's some pics...

I'd never heard of the DN-01.  Looked it up- it's got an amazing transmission!!  There are 4 or 5 on Bikepoint, all under 5000 kms, and all around $10000!  Don't people take these things out of town?  Very interesting looking bike- like they say- a bit of everything.

Hi I'm Nick

I'm from Heath Hill in Victoria and have a Candy 1995 ST1100S. It's my second bike, the first one, a 1997 Honda Dominator. I bought the ST from a guy in Canberra in November 2010 and my daughter and I flew up and rode home via Gippsland.
I have done one big ride with a friend with a GS1200. We went from home to Paynesvile, Omeo, Corryong, Tumbarumba, Tumut, Young, Forbes, Parkes, Bathurst, Goulburn, Canberra, Cooma and home via Cann River. We did it over 5 days and stayed in a tent.
Here's a pic of my bike on a recent trip.

Welcome aboard Tom - from the look of the bikes you've owned and the K's you've travelled, you are definitely a 'go to' bloke on long distance issues and queries.

And that's a great rap for the ST11 about it being the best, since you've own the GTR AND FJR as well - (but we all KNEW that already - didn't we?   :rofl :rofl :rofl

Glad to have you aboard. I dunno if you're in Perth or not - but check around this site as there are plenty of Sandgropers aboard and another RTE coming up in Perth shortly.

Oh, you will need to get your self an Ozstock shirt, so you can help us Sandgopers keep the world record for the most number of OzStock shirted members at an RTE. We hold it at the moment and wont give it up with out a fight..

Whoa what a ride - i tell you i am sooooo happy. I have "always" been a Honda man (so glad Casey is back at the Honda Stable) and have no reason to change after riding the ST - i love her. Looking forward to doing some big around Tas and perhaps to the mainland.

I wouldnt mind hearing about any Tassie ST (or other) rides. Drop me a line if you are from Tassie - lets do coffee ( i dont do beer when on a ride)!!!

Now that I've had my son show me how to post pictures, it's my turn.
Started riding when I was a wee lad of 16. First bike was a Yamaha sewing machine. 2 stroke 125.
Then bought a GS125 single 4 stroke.
Both of these bikes got a hard life. It was a on and off again relationship, mainly cause i was a learning.
I really enjoyed the GPZ 250 belt drive that I had. The most common colour in NZ was red. Mine was silver with red and black GPZ stripes.
Used to run Arrowmax tyres front and rear. Used to be able to push through corners really well. In my memory the roads used to have a decent camber to them. I can recall the first time I rode from where I lived in Welcome Bay to Te Puke on the 125. It took me over a half hour. With a bit more practice, a GPZ and having read a Keith Code book "The Soft Science of Road Racing Motorcycles" I was down to about 10 minutes. Lots of twisties and hanging off the side of the bike.
(http://i1097.photobucket.com/albums/g353/Malcolm6112/Robynsbike0002.jpg)Road works can be nice.
After I had lost my licence a few times due to speed. :cop :cop I got an old bike. A KZ400 twin. I could beat my friends GPZ400/4 up to 100 them he would beat me hands down. His older brother had a Z900 which I rode once and a while. John, who had the 900 also raced a CZ Jawa around the local track in Tauranga. There was always a Matchless or Areil in the shed.
Wrote off the 400 in a spectacular crash into a bank which I don't remember. Remember waking up in the ambulance and mentioning that my wallet was in my jacket and call my parents.

Immigrated in '88. Naturalized in '94. The worst thing was having to learn how to vote. The preference system sucks!
Married an Aussie girl in '91. It was about 7 years before I bought another GPZ250. Used to take the kids for rides. Youngest on the tank and the two older in the rear. All smiles and laughs.
Sold it when our situation changed.
Last September,2010, after must looking and investigating, I finally got the ok from the Minister of Home Affairs to look at motorcycles. Took Diane to look at an ST1100. It had been owned by a Ulysses member. Diane didn't feel comfortable with the rear seating. Next door to it was a blue ST1300.
She hopped on the back and declared that it was far more comfy. That's all I needed. So hence I'm now an ST owner :thumb

HI there,

Thought I would post some details. Hope I'm posting correctly. Just added a 1300 to the garage.

Things started way back with an XV 750 when I was 19, then on to a 81 Z1000 and CB 400/4. Bought a Moto Guzzi 850 T5 16 years ago, then a 2001 VFR 800 8 years ago and of course the 1300. The last three are parked down stairs. Can't afford to keep three - but what the hell. I heard an old biker once say he regretted selling his bikes over the years  - getting nothing for them at the time; so while I'm still standing..and have some pocket money.. we'll see.

Ride with a little club here on the Sunshine Coast called the Blackall Range MC - (BRMCC) for the last 15 years. Low profile group of your everyday riders - real nice bunch of between 20 -25 members.

The reason for the ST come about realising that my wife Melissa was getting a little tired hanging on to the VFR ( and me) with an engine though extremely sweet (and a V4 of course), tended to be a little 'on / off' due to its smaller capacity. Time to step it up in terms of comfort and pulling power. Looked at all the usual alternatives including the BMW 6 - (more of a fanciful dream actually - but unfounded once ridden), - Melissa giving the final approval to the ST. :thumbs

So looking to get a few 'farkles'?? (strange term yet to fully work out?) placed on the old girl, including mc cruise, gps (maybe - still thinking through), fender, rad guard, maybe heli risers with 'knob'.

Currently a government worker with history in the aviation industry. Done some touring in North VN last year - what a hoot! :grin

On the home front -three kids (12-17) running a 'muck'.  :fp

Will look at attending the run on the 19th if possible - say hi.

Real nice web site. I would post an image - but I can't get it to work - I have an iMac - maybe thats the trouble.

Cheers Lyndon & Melissa.

What that man said - great pics and write up thanks Lyndon and Melissa (Minister for War and Finance).

Try and get along to the next ride. I'll probs have a plan for those who want to join me on the way up - looks like the Bundy Crew are keen. Can't wait to see you guys again.

Cheers, Diesel

I'm Alan, I have a partner named Heather, we live in Peterborough SA and have done so since September 2010. It's and railway town and if yor're travelling by anything via Broken Hill to Port Augusta and beyond you have to come through here. We all ways see a couple bikes a week travelling through town.

My ST is a blue 1999 1100ABS bought used from a 45 year old lady from Bendigo who had it for five years. The bike had 11500 kms on the clock and was never ridden in the wet when I got it in May 2006. Now it has 135000 on the clock and used all most everyday of the week.
From March 2007 until October 2010 I've crossed the Nullarbor at least four times in each direction while I was working away from home. And probably three trips from Karratha to Perth and back to visit my sister (3200 Kms return) So, it's done some K's and no major issues with the bike.

Over the years I've had a few 250cc bikes, the best of them was a Suzuki GSX250. After a few years without a bike I bought a fairly well used Honda 250N followed by a CX500Turbo which had generator issues. I've had a Honda 750DOHC K model before getting a basic CX500 and now the ST1100 which is a bike I wanted ever since it was released.

I haven't done much to the bike in the way of modifications. I replaced windscreen to a taller one as the old screen had faded with the heat at Karratha (so have some panels) and the seat cover cracked as well, which was replaced when I moved back here with a GEL seat bought from the states. I had RJays top box on the cX and added that to my ST when I found an OE rack in England. Oh! I added driving lights for the back blocks of WA for the few times I needed to ride at night. Hitting a bull or roo is not my idea of fun.

At the moment I use a Vista throttle lock but would gladly have a proper cruise control and I use a portable GPS mounted on the fake tank.

We've all ways ridden on our own and don't belong to any clubs. We thought about the Ulysses Club but the few ride calendars we saw mostly involved visiting a hotel or two. If you drink, it's fine, if you don't it's off putting.

I tried adding a couple pictures but it don't seem to work, same for adding avatar to profile (running Windows 7).  Plus your attachment restrictions don't add up. 4 times 128kbs is 512kbs not 192kbs

Best wishes

Heather and Alan

Dave

You have outdone yourself with that mug shot. It is amazing to see what a little photo shop can add to improve ones looks.

I will have to try it on myself (Ones I fixed the cracked lens from the last time my camera shattered at the sight of my face).

Your a funny fella

Mark

Hi guys, my name is Adam, I live in Sunbury VIC,I am married with four great kids . My lovely wife Julie is not keen on the bike. She likes going in a straight line but not going around corners. She tries to steer me by my waist, plus she won't lean with me. We have been married for 27 years and I don't know how she puts up with me.
My first bike was a Bulltaco , then I got a Vf 750 which I got knocked off. I was ok but the bike was a right off. Then I got a Crb 1000 , rode that around till I got a Blackbird, great bike. Have dirt bikes so I can ride with my kids. While riding in the bush , I got hit head on by an idot who was doing the wrong thing.no lic or reg. I suffered a broken tib, fibulae and colar bone. I had my own business at the time and had 8 months off work. While off work I thought I would clean up the Bird. Polished the frame and wheels, swing arm and had the plastic painted. I had plenty of time on my hands. Went to go for my first ride for 8 months after my crash. While wheeling the bike out of the garage I dropped the bike. I was too weak to hold the bike.
Now with a gimpy leg I found the blackbird too uncomfortable to ride. I have seen the light and got the 1300 . It's a 010 and has only 9000 k's on it, I plan to change that and do some more riding.
Cheers Adam :blk13

I gather you've built up your muscles, because the ST1300 is a heavier bike to move around than the 'bird!
I have to make sure I'm on fairly level ground before I put the side stand down because she's a tough ask to get upright off a left downhill slope.   :(
