Title: My New Lid.
Post by: Esstee 13 on May 30, 2013, 10:51:42 PM
Thought i would post a pic of the new helmet i bought today. I have wanted one of these for ages and after trying to get a hold of one in Victoria, i was told by the distributor that there were no stockists at all in Vic. Then viola, out of the blue, AMX stocked them as of yesterday. It is a HJC FS 15 Air Foss. Magnificent fitting and superb comfort. Fibreglass composite weave shell(very light).  Fully washable lining and air adjustable cheek pads. Probably the most comfortable helmet i have ever put on my bonce. Let me know what you think.

Looks quite impressive. What is it like to ride with a dark face shield? Is it a problem riding at night or in rainy weather? I ride most days with sunnies on, but can't ride in overcast days or low light due to the darkness. Some feed back from others would be good.

Besides having that mean, badass look, what is the practical reasons for dark screens?

Hobs,

I always try to ride with a tint with a tinted visor in the daylight. I find a clear visor doesn't cut down on the glare enough. I also wear sunnies under that. You need to carry both shields as it's illegal to ride with a tinted visor at night, and quite frankly too dangerous anyway.

I bought a new Shoei GT Air this week and wore it to work for the first time today. It comes with one of those pop down tinted visors and it seems not too bad, but still geting used to it. You can't get a tinted shield for them, but it comes with the pinlock antifogging shield as standard, but only clear. I might look to get a tinted inert later. So far I can't fault the pinlock system. Left home at 6am in the fog and the old helmet would fog up straight away. The GT Air had no fog at all. Got to love that. Hope that helps you a bit.

I'm shopping on Sunday for the basics (jacket, duds, helmet, gloves etc) and am looking at the GT Air. Thanks for the report, sounds good. All the other feed back I have had has been good.  I dropped in to a Honda dealer recently and they were a Shark stockist. They pushed the Shark really hard and reckon they are quieter than the Shoei. It's not the info I'm getting elsewhere.

Neale,

I've being using an Arai for the last couple of helmets due to a bad head shape. They changed the internal shape and the bumps don't fit too well. It ended up being a choice between the Neotec and GT air, basically the same helmet, almost, with the Neotec having the flip front. I was going to buy one of the new Bell helmets, but they are not designed for people who need to wear glasses. The internal foam doesn't allow for the arms of the glasses to go down over your ears.

Got a good discount at Team Moto and paid $799 and they swapped the cheek pads for free as part of their service. Normally another $50. Not a fan of Team Moto as a rule but they beat the price from my mates shop.

Yeah Sean, been to a few shops and warehouses now.  Tried on lots of helmets and find the Shoei very comfortable and good with the glasses.  I also really like the flip down visor on the GT Air, makes sense and am surprised more brands don't use it. I figure if I don't go for the GT Air I'll probably end up with a Shark Evoline. Fit was pretty good but not as snug as the Shoei. Basically, after years of riding bikes for a living, I know what I like. Should be pretty simple on the day.  :thumbs

This helmet also hass the pinlock anti fog. Big bonus i reckon. It also has a 2 stage visor sealing set up. Up and down as usual then it has an individual system that locks the visor against the helmet and stops all wind. It is a hell of a lot of helmet for the money and comfort.

Evoline 3 is a great helmet, much better than the 2 I have.  Venting is good, and the visor system work very well - it has a range of positive stops and a final position is a snug fit between the visor and helmet..  The Shoei neotec felt wonderful, but is a big step up cost wise.

The red helmet would match a joe rocket textile 2 piece riding suit I have  :think1

Picked up my Shoei this morning. Fit is brilliant, good weight and I like the slip down tinted visor.  Very happy chappy.  :rockon

No Sabie, old habits die hard. Just more comfy in a standard full face I guess.
