Title: URGENT HELP/ADVICE NEEDED
Post by: Poppy Dave on June 01, 2013, 06:53:23 PM
To all owners/riders of 2005 1300's

A mate of mine is looking at a red 2005 1300 that is for sale for $10,500. :13Candy

I went and had a look with him today;

It's done 55,000k's, is in mint condition, has a Hondaline topbox and cruise control (proper CC not a throttle-lock). No apparent leaks etc. Full Service History. :thumbs

It needs new tyres and brake pads but appears to run sweetly.

Problem is, the owner lives in Geraldton, several hours away, and it is at his son's house near me. The son wouldn't let either of us ride it as he is concerned about it being damaged and not covered by insurance etc (understandable). He couldn't take us for a ride as he hasn't got a M/C licence. :cuss

Reason for sale is that the father now has a GoldWing and will not be riding the ST anymore. :spank

Question;  Does anyone know of any problems that could affect this bike? I told him to point out the $500 he'll have to spend on the tyres and pads and offer $10,000. I would pay that for it, after a problem-free ride, if I was in the market.

I've already told him he could pick up a new 1300 for about $16,000 but his limit is $10,500 as that was the payout for the bike (V-Strom) he's just written-off and he's just come back from an overseas holiday and is still paying off the overdraught. >:()

WORDS OF WISDOM PLEASE :-++ :-++ :-++

Son claims dad's coming down next Monday to take it back to Geraldton if not sold by then ??????? :whistle

Wait till Monday and deal with the owner / rider. If its meant to be the bike for him then it will still be there on Monday  :thumb

You can get a potential buyers cover.  Just call your insurance company, tell them you are intending to buy a bike and want to be covered for the test ride.  The can give immediate cover and will send the cover note.  Done!  If you don't buy it it has an auto lapse in x number of days and no cost.  If you crash the bike and want coverage, you have to pay the policy.  I insure with SGIO and they happily do it.

I'd never heard of it.  Sounds like an excellent win-win essentially at no cost.  I'd expect it would have a pretty steep Excess.
You'd need to leave your car keys or licence with the owner, because the policy doesn't protect him against theft of the bike.

Pondering a thought. Getting dads phone number and talking to him directly? That way you can get a feel for what he is like....

I bought mine sight unseen. But got a good gut feeling about it, and I have a winner  :thumb

I'm in the same boat as Streak, have just bought a 1300 sight unseen. Have a good feeling and pick it up on Thursday. Doing a road trip with Sicman to sunny Melbourne. All reports have it as being in great nick and a good buy. Will advise.
