Hi SA OzSTOCers.
I have a fair bit of stuff going on at the moment and won't be able to make Saddleworth.  I'd love to catch up with everyone and not getting any decent rides in is killing me.  :well    As I've  stated previously, I have the SA Flag, so if someone wants to collect it for the RTE, send me a PM and we'll make a suitable time.

While i'd like to join you, 230km each way might be a bit much for me.  Is anyone from up north here going to take part? With a bit of company it would be more tempting.

I'm the furthest one north at the moment who is going and I'm at Peterborough and we'll leave home about 10 am as it's only a 150 kms.

Come on Mikep!.   I've ridden to both Port Augusta for lunch, and back home to Adelaide in the same day.

I bet your bum/knees/hips/neck/back were sore by the end of the drive!  Well, 230km  with a decent lunch break should be a breeze then. I'll try to make it as long as its not raining, i have no wet weather gear. See you around 11.30!http://ozstoc.com/Smileys/default/beer.gif  :beer

Hope to see you there Mikep

If your not used to riding the longer distances take a 10 minute break to stretch the legs etc at about half distance.

We had a foggy start to a ride down to Saddleworth for our lunch and there was a chance of rain as well. Just we left town the fog cleared and we even had some warmth from the sun but it wasn’t to last for long.

About 10 kms north of Hallet we were back in the fog again with about 500 metres visibility but getting thicker the further south we went. By the time we left Hallet anything after a 100 metres was a guess. As luck would have it a 25 kph speed limit was in place due to road works, no one was working so I kept it at 40. A little later the limit was up to 80 for about 5 kms and then down to 40 (kept at 60). Road works seemed to have gone on forever, maybe it was the fog, may be the slow speed as it’s normally 110 k/h. At one point in the fog it did seem like we did have a light shower of rain but it was hard to tell for sure.

I had four cars behind me so I pulled off the road at Mount Bryan and let them pass and a few kms down the road just after the Crystal Brook turn off the fog cleared leaving a clear run to Burra where we usually take the truck by-pass route unless we need food etc. At 11.20 am we pulled up in the hotel car park.

I took the photo of Heather standing in the hotel car park.

About a minute later I spotted the lights of four bikes coming towards us. All four 1300s all arriving together from places down south. So, we beat last years turn up by an extra ST and three people. Just we were about to go inside the hotel a green 1100 (Mikep) arrives from Port Augusta making 6 ST’s and 10 people.

I had a senior’s moment and forgot to get a photo inside the hotel but I managed a few shots of the bikes and a short video taken on my still camera. We were the last to leave at 2:30 pm and from what I can see is that we all had a good day and we thank everyone for turning up.

South Australia OzStoc RTE Saddleworth 30th June 2013

The group that met down in the city took photos as well so maybe more to come.

The return trip for us was incident free other than a sudden drop in speed as a white car (about 1 km away) we were following and slowly catching was turned out to be a local police car. In the 40 kph road works section, he did a u turn and stopped on the side of the road. No doubt doing speed checks in the lower limit. He waved at us as we passed him.

The end result for us was a round trip of 266 kms over 3.5 hours with an average speed of 77 kph and 15.5 litres based on my average fuel usage.

Hi All,
It was great to meet a few SA ST Riders. Kathy I both enjoyed the company and lunch last Sunday. The weather could have been better, but once the Fog and Mist lifted…………. it was a good day on the bike.
I gave the new Go-Pro Hero3 its first test run on the way back so please check out the YouTube link attached, with a bit more practise on the set up I hope to post some more from future rides.
Regards
Don & Kathy

It was a good day despite the limited vision due to the fog.  Thanks for the company during the ride and the meal.  Donna and I are looking forward to the next ride

The other folk on the ride have covered the RTE nicely.  Just a few more pics below:

Those of us that came from the Adelaide environs appeared out the fog and met at the Caltex station on Port Wakefield Rd, Bolivar.

Thanks to Pete and Mel we were able to unfurl the flag just prior to setting off for Saddleworth.

First stop after riding through the fog and rain (who was it that said before we started that it doesn't rain when there is fog around? :crackup) was Kapunda.  Ably led by Don and Kathy we found a nice café for a coffee and a bike line-up.

Arrived at the Gilbert Valley Hotel at the designated time to meet Alan and Heather who had travelled from Peterborough, with Mike arriving all the way from Port Augusta about ten minutes later.  We wandered inside and had a very enjoyable lunch and a yarn, and a wonderful display of Donna's sewing skills with Richo's OzSTOC badge proudly on display on his jacket.

Replete, we ventured outside (where there were fleeting glimpses of the sun  :runyay), suited up and headed our various ways.  Don has some great video of some of the ride back in his post.

Thanks again to Alan for organising the trip, and we look forward with much anticipation to the next one.

Marty

1st chance to add brief message about the RTE to Saddleworth, left home approximately 7.30, very foggy & cold, meet up with other ST owners & partners for the very 1st time at Caltex Bolivar at around 9.30am, Don took the lead on a very nice ride to Kapunda for Coffee & banter. Richo then guided us nicey into Gilbert Valley Hotel where we caught up worth Alan & Heather were waiting. It wasn't long after that Mike arrived from Port August, A lovely meal and conversation, a few pictures then back home on a lovely day arriving back at around 5ish
