Just putting out there that the SCA is having it's 2013 Poker Run in the first week of September. The meetup is on the 1st of Sept at Gayndah and then heads to Tara on Monday, Roma Tuesday, Blackall Wednesday, Sapphire Thursday and Sarina Friday.
I really enjoyed last years and I'm looking forward to this one.

too far for me however i am intrigued on the makeup of a poker run. I understand the poker part but do you have riding directions instructions etc like a car rally. :think1 This may be an event over here in the future.

Wombat,
There are a few Poker runs held here, by a few of the clubs. Some you may not want to attend o:)

Some are elaborate others less so, when I was organiser of the CBX club in WA I was involved in some Poker Runs the simpler one's involved getting a random card at each stop then the person with the best hand at the end wins a prize usually there are 1st 2nd 3rd etc prizes involved

Thanks for that. I understand the cards and hand makeup but how do you go from one point to another. Does anyone have riding instructions or do you get the end point then make your own way and time. Can someone send me an example or actual event documentation. Would any westies like an event like this say at the end of the year finishing for a chrissie get together? :think1

The format with the SCA run is that directions to the next stop are given out each day when you pick up your card, people then ride to next destination via the given route. Most ride in small groups with mates although it gets interesting at servos when a few hundred stop to fill up their bikes. As for the poker hand, with 450+ bikes participating the chance of getting a winning hand is slim.

Are you allowed to trade or swap cards or the one you get is it. How detailed are the directions or is a ride map given. I have done quite a few charity car rally's where the directions are turn left at blue post or go 742 m then turn right. As most people brought kids they also had questions or items to collect on the way. A sealed envelope is supplied if they got lost and they couldnt win a prize. On a bike you would not want to stop every kilometre so is there a distance between directions. Also riders are equipped differently etc. Might be interesting to watch a gymkana type event. Better start practicing the riding skills. Any other ideas :think1

On the SCA run since the distance between stops is often 400+kms the directions are basically "head to such and such town, take the turn to xyz, head to abc intersection, turn right and follow the highway to.... ".
With most poker runs the card you select is recorded against your name so it can' be changed or swapped, you don't get to keep the cards.

Thanks for all that :thumb
