I have been looking around for white ST1300's for sale, and they seem to be a very rare creature, am I right in guessing as they use them as the police bike they didn't sell them to to general public in white? Or only limited white was sold?
Cheers
Streak

White was not a civilian option. Due to Honda not guaranteeing the stability above certain speeds I think they fell out of favour with police forces. But there have been a few sold, particularly in WA for international meetings. They are up for auction at the moment. There were also some sold new to the public to clear the stocks of the bikes. As with the ST11 police model, knowing about being able to buy a new one is always after the fact.

So Streak, are looking at being a 2 ST family (The black and white minSTrels, old tv show)

The Police model was a single seater (I believe) - this one is clearly registerable for two.
The police version also had different switch banks, light bracket mounts, calibrated speedo, "no-steal" switch when left running etc
Oh - and no top box.

But like the 1100 everything could be swapped like the civvy models, only the log book would give you a tell tell idea of its previous life.

There's three available at Manheims over here in Perth, all former stablemates of my ST.

Best bet for a 1300 police bike would be WA as they use them

I bought a ST1300 from Manhielm Fowles a few years ago and changed the seat over to a Corbin twin seat. The WA Police hierarchy decided that motorcycles were not the way to go and down sized the fleet, so they off loaded quite a few of them, mine had less than 6,00 kms on it when I bought it
Causeway Honda in Perth got caught with a few extra ST1300P Hondas when the police changed their mind. They ended up converting these bikes to civilian bikes by changing them to a twin seat, putting on a genuine top box and advertising them for $19,999. The bike in the photo looks like one of the ones from Causeways.
A couple of years later the W.A.P.D. realised their mistake and went back to ST1300 Hondas and are only now changing to FJ1300 Yamahas because they can't buy any more Hondas.
The Police bikes are different that the civilian models, the easiest way to tell with Hondas is the frame No ST1100P/ ST1300P . CB750P P=Police!!
As said before the switch gear is different, bonus because you can use them for your accessory switches, spotlights etc. They have an upgraded rear shock and are rumoured to have a thicker frame. The rear frame is slightly different because it has an extra bracket either side to support the Electronics mount plate, I cut the mounts off when I fitted my Corbin because it fouled the bottom of the seat.
I am told that they also speed limited the Police ST1300s to 198 KPH ( not that I have ever tested the theory, and this was done because the UK Police bikes had different pod on the rear to house the radio/ blue light controls etc, the shape of the pod (and possibly the weight of the electrics) caused instability at high speed which led to some fatalities.
I have not been able to find out how to remove the speed limiter, even the local Honda technicians are not clued up.

Thinking about it a bit more, buying second hand police auctions can be a good cheap way to go.
The traffic coppers usually get assigned a bike when it is new and ride them from day one until it either runs up it's Kms or they get transferred to another section.
They are always serviced every 6,000 km and they don't scrimp on the costs, can't have coppers falling off bikes because they weren't maintained properly can we??.

John, thanks for that info. I bought my 13 from Manheim last month, and having now sold my 11, looking in earnest at the seat.
When you fitted the Corbin, was there anything else you had to do apart from take off the extra lugs on the seat rail?
-
I am thinking another 12 months and i will seriously get into looking at upgrading....i have a few conquests to ahceive on the ST1100 before I move to the ST1300
i am going to have to factor in a few extra bits and pieces, but in the meantime make sure if you spot a white one for sale put it up!
I am keen to continue the Storm Trooper Look :thumb

Seat modification
I think I have done a post on this before ,if not here then on the US st1300 site.
I had to take the seat off, grind off the mounts on either side of the seat rail at the back ( On the black metal part of the frame) and then change the lock release set up.
From memory you need to buy a lock release cable and a catch from Honda for about $70 - $80 and then fit it at the rear of the frame
Other than that it is pretty easy, if you get serious about it give me a call and I will have a good look at how I did it
regards
John

Those bikes that are left have reserves of $6k and $6.5k. That's base price, plus fees. Couple are a bit rough too.

Just had a look, and the three ST13s are up for auction again tomorrow. Below is my notes from looking at them the day before last month's auction.
There were 5 then, and they all attracted bids but finished under reserve. I managed to get the bike that was my first choice out of the five, and the other one that sold would have been my equal (with 332 below) second pick. The remaining ones though, all had lower reserves, which I found out during the post auction "negotiation". Anyhoo:
Bikes
1cz 214 lot 873
Crack in fr fender lh tank pad loose
Minor scuffs 2 dash holes no hiss.
Rear good front good.
Lh drop - infil, wing scuffed, panel align - ok tho.
Ok- maybe.
..
1dk 332 lot 825
Lh drop (wing scuff) and fr l fairing not perfect alignment like most others.
Chips on tank
Messy bags - just glue from stickers
Extra hole in cowl? Meh.
Rear close front 50%
Not bad at all.
...
1dk 327 lot 901 (hwy patrol)
Both sides dropped (wing scuff) interestingly best front panel fit of the lot?? no holes in dash
Tank chipped badly (possibly bushfire fallout or summat) needs spray
Velcro on dash else clean
Lh saddlebag full of water may need seal, looks ok
Seat a bit loose
Only if its cheap!
Obviously they're all 2006 build from VIN (and abs ring), but registered as 08 or 07 manufacture.
I'm certainly no expert on the ST13, but the above was my observations.
-
Hmm so I wonder what you could pick one of these up for....
STeamroller, can you pm me your phone number, just want to get a verbal opinion....

Streak it is do-able, here's how:-
Between the Ozstoc community we would be able to pillion you to WA, in a worlds first longest ST relay of a ST pillion.
Allowing the rider to leave home and return the same day.
ST2UP - Guyra to Sydney
Abe - Sydney to West Wyalong
Tony - West Wyalong - ???
Sorry boys (ST2UP & Tony) just think of the fun.
Just food for thought (or just buy a one way ticket)
It's only money and you can't take it with you.
-
Well it is certainly food for thought, thank you to STeamroller for the excellent feedback on the phone, with the 6k reserves is making it VERY tempting....
-
Jus do it...... Grab me one while your over there ....oh and explain to the wife too :well
-
Yeah, go for it mate, don't let fear stop you. :nahnah
-
You KNOW you want the best colour ST.. :wht13 :wht11
-
I'd squirt some colour on it ........ Cause if ol' mate in the other vehicles think your a cop they sloooooooww
Down alot aaaaarggghhh!!!
-
Tell me about it. In group rides I prefer someone else to lead due to how everyone thinks they are doing something wrong. Even worse when there are 2 or 3 police STs travelling together..the truckies have a great time figuring out if there are cop bikes around or not.

This Pony express would work as far as the SA-WA border, then its a long walk to York where the next rider would be..... :rofl :rofl
-
Who said anything about riding to the borders? I thought I would just chauffeur Streak from West Wyalong to Parkes and put him on the train west :wink1 :grin

Mate the planets weren't lined up...... It's out there waiting for you to find it.... And you are right there is nothing wrong with the black STallion.

Hey Streak...........I have exactly what you're looking for, but I'm sorry mate, it's not for sale!!! All White bikes are Police bikes and were never meant to be released for sale new to the public.
I actually brought my bike from Pro Honda in Ipswich about 3 years ago, It was a brand new Police model, already fitted with pillion seat, raised handlebars, wind (knee) deflectors, panniers, etc. with zero kls on the clock. Pro Honda were able to get hold of 4 of these bikes and they were un commissioned Police Bikes, and I brought the last one that they had. I actually flew up from Tassie and they picked me up from the airport and the first time I ever sat on a ST 1300 was when I rode it out of the showroom to head back to Tassie. I love riding the white bike, so often I'm mistaken for the long arm of the law, which can be a little frustrating at times, as I'm often given right of way when I don't have it. I've even had cars in front of me pull over and stop to let me pass them. Once I even had a M/C Police Officer riding towards me give me a wave as he went past........of course I just waved back with a little smirk on the dial. The only thing that didn't come with it was a top box, which I added at a later date. I've also since added a quartet harness, OEM heated grips, black sheepskin seat cover, Kaoko throttle lock, and hot wired my magnetic tank bag, from where I can charge my iPhone etc.
Love the white ST!!

Just for you mate!

Oops, forgot to mention, it's a 2008 model and I was able to buy it for a very good price. I was lucky to be able to get it, it was advertised on Pro Honda's website and I brought it from them before I even laid eyes on the bike. Of course I did view a very good photo of it and as I mentioned it had never been on the road so I knew it had to be in superb nick. When I went to Brissie to pick it up PH told me they wished they could have gotten a dozen of them as they'd had so many enquiries after I'd brought their last one. The only little problem I had after riding it out of the showroom and heading straight back to Tassie was that it was very hot in the afternoon, and raining lightly, then after 10 minutes on the road the sky turned black/green and it absolutely pissed down with very strong gusty winds which continued for the next 120kls. I made it as far as Warwick before finally tossing in the towel, very pissed off and very wet. It wasn't until later that I was pleased to have gone through it because it gave me so much confidence in the bike. Although I have to admit that at the time S@#% was trumps! Next morning I set off early with clear skies, knowing that I needed to make it a big day as I'd booked passage back to Tassie the following night. I managed to clock up 1157kls with temps up around 32-34 degrees most of the way. Rested that night then hit Melb early afternoon the following day, grinning like a cheshire cat. Over on the Spirit that night, then 350kls from Devonport to Nubeena the following morning, stopping on the way to have a safety certificate made out then register it with Tasmanian registration. It was a great first ride I can tell you!!
Oh' I did have a permit to ride an unregistered bike, without plates..........speed cameras, tolls , ha ha..... :grin

There's a brand new white ST1300 sitting in Rising Sun Honda in Townsville....
Spoke to Bernie today, he said they sold that a while ago, he is going hunting for me
-
ProHonda at Rocklea has been ordering white 1300's over the last couple of years.
Seen quite a few going through the workshop for presale work.
Not police specials just white beauties.
-
That's interesting, I was told that all white bikes manufactured by Honda were Police Bikes :law, that is, they are all set up with Police switching, and I've yet to see one that isn't! But if you've seen them going through then my info is incorrect! :-++
I'd be interested to know what year model they are, as they've never been advertised as an available colour.
-
For those who might not understand "Police switching"
-
I know the manager at Pro and he has told me previously tha the bikes come in from Honda and occassionally there are a couple that are surplus to the Police requiremnts. They then sell them to the public as they become available. The bikes are the police spec except the lights are not fitted, but the switch gear is left on them. I hope this helps.
Sean :wht13
-
That's exactly right!! Other than the switch gear you wouldn't know the difference between them and non Police bikes. I don't know if there is any difference in top speed between the two as I've never bothered to go that fast :law but I do know that my bike handles very well :thumbsup and I've never needed to alter the suspension from the day I first threw my leg over the seat :grin.
:wht13 :wht13 :wht13 :wht13 Go the white STs! :thumbsup
-
"UPDATE"
Just been doing the rounds with Bernie from Rising sun Honda in Townsville, he can get me a new White ST1300 full converted to dual seat for $21,000 on road....as they are being used by the QLD police again....
bit more than I had planned to spend, but it was interesting to know that Bernie was willing to follow up for me...
-
Maybe Poppy Dave will sell his white ST13, I'm sure he knows where to get another one.
