Greetings,
I am looking for some advice on a problem that has just occurred with my electrics. A little background first. The last farkle on my 1100 was the installation of a voltmeter. I wired it directly to the red with black stripe wire for the ignition and earthed it via the green circuit. All joints soldered and insulated. All was running well for weeks with no apparent issues. The first problem I encountered a week ago was with my heated grips wired to the bikes aux point behind the battery. They were not working at all. No power. Checked the fuse (5amp) and it had blown. I replaced it and blew another when the key was turned to on. Tried this again blowing fuses up to a 20amp. Decided to disconnect my grip warmers completely along with all other farkles wired to my battery. Reconnected battery as it should be and turned key to on. This time I have nothing. No lights, clock, fuel pump, zip. Any thoughts on what may be the issue. I am looking to get this sorted asap. This could not have happened at a more inconvenient time. I did check all other fuses. All are intact. Cheers.

Prime suspect - check the block connector going into the top of the starter motor relay (to the left of the battery). All ignition controlled power goes up through it to the ignition switch then back to the fuse boxes. Often this overheats and burns, cutting power to the whole system. Clean and tighten the connections and it should work. There is a bypass procedure when you have more time (basically put a wire that bypasses the connector for the red wire) Make sure the battery connections are firm. Otherwise maybe a wire has been pinched somewhere or insulation worn off.

Thanks for the input but wouldn't you know it. I was in such a hurry I forgot to check that 30amp fuse within that block left of the battery. Sure enough it had blown. Pays to stop and think for a minute sometimes. All good now. Just have to fix my grips now.

do you have more detailed information on the bypass of red power wires

Hmmmmm me thinks that bloody starter solonoid thing is the culprit. Take that left hand cover off and in the middle at the bottom you will see a square kinda thing with a fuze in it and a couple of wires. Mate I lost all me power after blowing a fuze or 2 and this was the culprit. If she's cactus, cost you for a new one $32.00 of Ebay. heres a pic

Ahhh Terry good one again mate, didn't know that one was there, will try and remember that one and add one of those fuses with the led to it....just in case :thumbs
