This is a little old now as its dated 2008, but in the UK they've scraped the ST1300's by destroying them removing frame numbers so that they were only fit for parts.

Typical bureaucratic decision when it's taxpayers' money that's involved.
The particular crash was deemed to be related to the weight distribution of the Police equipment and the aerodynamics at 150 mph, as I understood it. Someone here might have the published report which I recall reading.
If the bike is so dangerous they had to render them unregisterable, then how can they continue to allow them on the road? It defies logic, unless their thinking is, people are free to kill themselves on dangerous bikes they buy from anyone else, but we won't put ourselves at risk of liability by selling them.

Typical Brits, they did the same thing with legal gun owners, an action of a crazed lone gunman, who the police knew had psychotic tendancies, and a country had to lose a sport up to Olympic level. One accident and the whole motorcycle fleet is reduced to spares. Has the world gone mad.

Best you read the independent reports into the matter. Unfortunately it was more than one rider that died hence moth balling nearly the entire UK Police fleet (one of which I purchase for a song!)

But didn't know there were other stories about other related deaths, can only comment on whats posted by others, either way its a waste of perfectly good bikes, just because the police believe it has faults, they could say that of any bike with deaths related to it.

I have seen comment that some of those parts only bikes have been 'repaired' and tried to be flogged off to unsuspecting buyers.

Hi Still, there are quite a few people on the forum who will be able to give advice on this subject. But what I know about it it's at very high speed, was attributed to the way the UK Police had set the bike up.
Normally it won't effect you as if it was to happen (which is extreamly unlikely) you'd have to be well over the speed limit. You have more of a chance of a roo jumping out in front of you.
I've had mine up to $180 and she was as solid as a rock, very balanced, very stable and just purred along.
As I said, there are quite a few who have more knowledge about it than me, my advise to you would be don't stress about it, keep searching for your red beauty.

Thanks Sabie for the imput ,there's a bit of a fly in the ointment i rode steve's ST1100 on the way home now i'm a little confused as i really like it too but for different reasons,the seat is more comfortable and the cockpit is noticeably quiter,then on the other hand i also rode Dave's ST1300 now the bar/feet position is better for my frame,especially when fitted with hellibars ,oh well money is tight until i sell this place so i have time to study the market.

I believe they get "flighty" above 200 kph, so you won't have to worry about it, "Still".
BTW, what will your new name be when your dream comes true? I't best to keep it to a sentence less than three words. :grin
