Hello All,
We are looking at fitting a Tow Bar to our ST1100, are there many different types? any better than others?

I have the Classic towbar and cost me $400 plus. Classic sells two towbars for the 1100. One for yours and one for mine and they say it's because of the ABS. I still can't figure the difference other than the ABS/traction Control sensor mounted to the drive unit. No part of the bar goes anywhere near that.
When I bought mine seven years ago the Classic towbar was the only one that came up in a search.

Don't like the looks of that one much STreak, all the towing load (for and aft) is taken by those two 3x25mm flat bars with bends, the down load by similar material but with not the same load on them. I would be looking for something that the main 'arm' was connected in a straight line to the muffler bolts, and make sure you replace the bolts with some grade 8.8 (high tensile) ones.

This is the Classic Industries one for your 1100
They supply the wiring plug and new bolts to mount the bar at the exhaust mounting points. Two verticle bars which mount on the frame in the pocket behind the seat.

There's an outing for you, Streak, now you're all keen about LD riding. :thumbsup
I'm sure you'd get it at a good price, but you'd better not wait for Summer... :o

Hey Biggles, what's summer? We have 3 seasons here, Wet Season (December/January to April), Dry Season (May to August/September) and Buildup (September/October to November/December). Best time for you southerners to visit is the Dry. It's been a bit chilly the last few mornings though, got down to 19*C this morning....nearly got the ugg boots out again :wink1

I just got a tow bar. Its the one I was going to buy, but the guy died a couple of days before it was to be delivered. Turns out a work mate was his son in law, so when he found the bar, he gave it to me.
Needs a good clean up and repaint, may get it powder coated.

Still pondering about this tow bar situation, I want to do it, I have a trailer handy, but the second hand tow bar is rare as hens teeth...
