Title: Bike Covers - Which one
Post by: Abe on August 08, 2013, 08:37:32 AM
This topic is for ANY bike you have.

Just add if you have a wider/taller screen, wind deflectors, different top box etc, this will assist anyone looking for a new cover.

What type of cover (1/2, 3/4 or full)?

Waterproof, dust proof, UV etc?

Compact in size?

Purchased from?

Approx. cost?

Would buy the some cover again?

Just add any details that you think is relevant.

 :dred11

I have a 3/4 cover (size XL) on my 1100 with a taller/wider (Screens for bikes) screen and it fits great and would buy one again, compact for stowage. approx $20.00.

I have the bulky Supercheap cover for home in the shed......but Tony put me onto a 3/4 Ebay cover for $20.....very snug fit, but effective for a travel cover....packs compact and flat back into its bag with easy.

Tony will post the link when he see's this.......

I've got an RJAYS, which readily covers the top box and the taller BikeQuip screen, but I can't find the tag which gives the size.

I bought an RJays large size fits ST and Goldie, probably same as Stinky pete's, fleecy inner and quite durable.
About $45.00 or $50.00 I think.

It would John, think the real make or break difference would be the screen height of the 1100 as apossed to the seductive and sleek lines of the 1300 with the screen down  :popcorn.......why do you need a bike cover anyway ???? then it would have NO chance of a wash  :nahnah

I may have gone to the extreme, but as my ST13 lives outside, I wanted a waterproof flock lined cover that would do the job and not scratch the paint and ended up with an extra large from RJAYS for $69.95 (same as StinkyPete's and JimWilly)
but it does what I wanted + with the screen fully raised as well:

Seems RJays for at home and the light 3/4 cover for RTE's, overnighters etc.

Thanks all for your input.

Karma Brock, I'm going to buy a RJays now.

Abe you say you have the XL on the 1100, do you think this size will fit the 1300 with the top box and windshield, or should I order a larger one?
Title: Re: Bike Covers - Which one
Post by: Abe on March 29, 2014, 10:10:37 AM
It does cover SOME of the bike (screen and top box, down to front guard)

But not the panniers as I have an aerial.

I did use one on the recent trip to the Rally and it worked well for the price

This one fits my 1300 with top box perfectly. Also fits 1100 as BillSteff has one and he recommended.
Need XL size. Handy slot for disc lock. Central clip is awkward to attach tho. Available online.
Approx $50 + delivery. Not cheap but good quality.

I have a full cover for home in the garage, doesn't get used much when the ST is actually going. For travelling I use an army hutchee because they are waterproff and roll up to almost nothing. They can also be stretched quite tight to provide better protection.

A "hutchee" or "hoochie" is an Army issue lightweight waterproof tarp usually used as a tent

I have this one coming. Supposed to fit a Goldwing so it should be ok on the 1100. A cover is not something I usually worry about as it means I need to take it off before I can ride the bike. It'll be more like Heather putting it on and me taking it off.

I got the exact same one, despite the description that it fits a Goldwing, it doesn't - it just fits over my Piaggio 250 scooter.   The quality of the material is good for sub $20.00 delivered, but don't expect it to keep the bike dry if it gets rained on, it's just a light cover and keeps the dust off

I have not bothered to return it (as it fits the Piaggio), the old Piaggio cover was too big, so it's now over the Elite camper trailer, and the Mighty ST13 has its cover.   All's well, that ends well.

Marcus,

Here is a website with "hoochies"
http://www.wellingtonsurplus.com.au/listProduct/militaria/hoochies (http://www.wellingtonsurplus.com.au/listProduct/militaria/hoochies)

Pezzz,
UHF CB aerial issue.  Hadn't thought about that.  Good thing mine is stainless steel and spring mounted.  :grin   :hijacked

I don't have a cover for mine as it is always garaged at home and is a daily commuter.  At work we have shade/rain sails where I park the bike.

But this thread has given me ideas that for those blowy rainy days at work, it would be handy to keep the rain off. And for Overnighters/travelling.

6 yrs ago I went lQQking on ebay for my bike cover, I found 1 ad that said for large bike with topbox.  $10 so I ordered it. it arrived and there was no way it would fit my bike  :well  so I gave it to a friend with a Yamaha xs1100.
I then went back to ebay and found an ad with 2hrs bidding left where no previous bids had been placed. I waited till about 2 mins left and placed the 1ST bid $1.00 and won the item,  It arrived and fitted STranger, top box and all.  its STill being used  only I loST its STorage bag. :fp
$1.00 ebay great buy... with free postage..  :rockon

I got a large Aldi outdoor cover a while ago. Fits well, but can't remember how much, but probably very cheap, but definitely more than $1!. I notice that the week after next, Aldi will have bike gear on sale again. Have to wait to see what they've got, as some of their stuff is OK.

Yeah, Just ordered one of these myself seeing as the bike lives outdoors (old cover from the USA has started to leak quite badly and that cost over $70). I think the extra money is worth it. I have a couple of Oxford products and I'm pleased with them so I thought I'd stick with a brand I know and happy with.

I just remembered this.......better late than never..........lol

So far the cover has held up a few winter and spring storms. The cover does have a couple of clips but I've never needed to use them. I have to be careful when removing the cover as there has been times when it's got caught between the bike and the side case so now the side case area is last on, first off.

Still as new on the bike today.
