Once upon a time...............
There was a man who had the chance to get back on an ST1100 after a break of way to many years. He managed to find a typical super reliable example and bought the said motorcycle way back in 2005. :hatwave Since that time the motorcycle and rider have been inseperable ( He sold his car and has not had one since! ).
After 8 years of faithful service and killing a 'roo on Border Run 12, the motorcycle (farkles) started to tell their owner it was time for some serious maintenance. On the second day onwards of this years Border Run, everything started to tell the owner it did not want to play any more! Music sounded terrible, cruise control would disengage randomly, C.B. suddenly sent garbled transmissions so the poor rider had to ride over 1000k home with no music or C.B. to break the boredom. :-[
Upon finally returning home, the owner promptly fired up his computer and did a search for another ST1100 with the idea of transfering and rewiring all his farkles onto the other bike and making one really good bike from the two. Well the only good ones to be had were a little too expensive, so said rider had another barainwave: how about an ST1300!! :thumbsup
After another search he found a reasonbly priced 2010 model with Topbox here in Perth. The only other modification to the ST1300 was a Heli bar riser withe powerlet outlet and RamBall mount. Perfect, a blank canvas to work from!!!!
After lots of phone calls and begging for finance, I finally picked up my new toy today:

A very tidy 2010 ST1300A with only 16189 K's on Odo, with TopBox and Heli Risers now sits next to "RooKiller" under the carport.

Let the farkling begin!! :Blow
Already on its way from the U.S. is the Dash Shelf
Aux Fuel tank system should be ready from the U.S. end of next month
To be ordered soon, the MCCruise Control
To come off "RooKiller" :
C.B. Radio
USB outlets
Starcom system
Spot Lights and brackets
GPS mounts
Now to go back outside and put an OzSTOC sticker on it before someone leaves a card!
Ray,
Now :blk13

Congratulations Ray. Nice looking bike.
-
Congratulations Ray. You bought very well.
Not sure about your logic. It was the farkles that broke down, and you're moving them to the new bike. :eek
You'll love the ST13. Will you sell RooKiller or use it as a commuter. You might have already realised you won't be able to use her for spares for the new Dark Knight!
-
Noice.

:think1 The logic was that I would have to put the 1100 off the road for quite a while and it is (was ) my only set of wheels.
Yes, RooKiller will be up for sale as soon as I get all the farkles off ( except the Cruise control ) and make up the new wiring for them.
You're right about lovin' the 1300, just the short ride home I noticed it felt lighter and steered better than the 1100. The riding position is a bit different, more upright. That is probably 'cos of the risers.
-
Snap! Now we can race 'em.
-
nice bike, lots of money to spend on the farkles now :thumbs

Congrats :thumb :grin

Interesting you should say that. The last time I rode an 1100 I was surprised how reluctant it was to do a U turn. The 13 feels a bit higher too, but that might be because of the tank being a bit more bulky in front of you. Mine was ex-Cop and I miss the voltmeter. The side-stand light was a nice touch, too.

Nice choice, but I might be a bit biased

Oh that's no shock to me Ray after talking about an upgrade at Balladonia in the future, tho I just did not think that quick :thumbs
Who's next lol me no no not just yet I still like my 1100
Nice buy Ray :)
Ps now hand in your 1100 membership :rofl

When you transfer the electronics, make sure the wiring and connections are done carefully. You dont want to transfer the problems as well.

Congrats on your new baby :thumbs

That is exactly why it was put RooKiller off the road or get another bike and make up all new cables etc.
Altronics are gonna love me when I get back from Dwellingup on Sunday! :fp

I agree, when I switched from the ST1100 to the ST1300 I also found that the ST1300 felt a lot lighter and easier to steer... the first corner I came to I almost dropped it on it's side (I didn't expect it to lean so easily :eek) but with a bit of extra acceleration :wink1 she powered through :runyay
I'm sure you'll find many more things to love as you become more acquainted with the new girl :thumbs
Enjoy

Congratulations on the purchase of the new steed,i still find much to like about the 1100 ,it's quieter, has a better standard seat, but in almost every other way the 1300 is better.
-
You really do need to do some more research of the FACTS :well :beer

Well done, but I hope you're gonna respray it white! Ha! :crackup
What's with the aux fuel tank........?
-
John have recently ridden both and that is my conclusion,i find the actual riding position more comfortable 1300 better for my body size. And i think it steers lighter, how well it lasts could be up for discussion .All in all it's all personal preference.

What's with the aux fuel tank........?
Distinct lack of after hours fuel up north of Carnarvon here in W.A. :well
It should give me 750 - 800 k Range. :thumb
-
That's a lovely pair. I wish SWMBO would allow me to do that!

Caltex 24 hour in Karratha
The BP truck stop in Port Hedland
Locations here http://goo.gl/maps/ic9M3 (http://goo.gl/maps/ic9M3) from Carnarvon to Port Hedland
I used to take a 10 litre fuel container in in each side case so I could miss the three road houses between Carnarvon and Karratha.
I did a trip to Broome from Port Hedland and there's Pardoo and Sandfire roadhouses and Roebuck Plains but I don't know their hours.

Just to get serious briefly..all depends on tyres and handlebar setup. I find the ST13 not that much different to the ST1100 P version, as the bars are pretty similar. I have ridden standard St1100s and they can feel a bit slower if they have the original bars and tyres. ST11 with radials and higher bars is not that much different to the ST13.
Due to the ST13 having a fair bit of the fuel higher up it feels a bit more top heavy to me, mainly at rest. But the steering geometry is a bit sharper, but I can't say I have really noticed compared to the way my ST11 is set up. The adjustable screen is the main difference for me, and the EFI should be a better bet in the long run.

On the ST1300 there is only 5 litres capacity between the filler neck and the top of the actual tank down in the frame so its only 5kg of weight if its filled right up to that point.
-
IanB should chime in here. Just sitting on his ST13 and my ST11, the ST13 feels a bit more top heavy. Don't know why that should be as the ST13 is lighter, and has quicker steering geometry. The ST13 has better brakes and the adjustable screen if you have the right model. But then I have only ridden the test bike at the Snowy Ride, and they are always faster :)

I guess this puts the Wing on the back burner for a few years Ray, in the Honda Shop today, blue is gone, red one and a white one on the floor.

:thumb I'm figuring about 3 years, unless the 1300 suits me too well!!!

Even less, since it's a litre of water that's one kg. One litre of fuel is around 650 grams, depending on the temperature.
Not that one will notice that 1.5 kg difference when we're into the hundreds of kgs. :wink1

Congratulations Ray, looks a super bike. :hatwave

Nice work Ray , it's a lovely looking bike - i'd expect to see alot more K's on it when i see it in the flesh next year in Ballarat !
Apart from the fact a Goldwing would be 7 times your weight, i just couldn't see you on one.
I think you will be very happy with Black Betty ....

I can almost guarantee there will be a significant increase in the odometer reading by the time I get to Ballarat !!
And yes, I am more than happy with the 1300.
