Is it just me or does anyone else name their bikes?
No, I'm not talking about the names uttered when that part just won't fit.. or when you tear a medial ligament trying to hold your steed up... :wink1
I mean names like bob or sally.....
For some reason, I have found it nessacary to do this. My old hilux is Roger for example.
My two other bikes are called Phobos (fear), and Deimos ( terror ). :gri
You see, I am an Aries (Ares), and that greek god had two steeds....yep.. as above.
No I am not really a god :p
Carrelli got his name because at the time, I really wanted an Italian bike... love Ducatis...
Had just watched Captain Carrelli's Violin.... Carrelli was? sounded like Italian... good enough for now!
Anyone else do this...?
Man ! I hope so otherwise I am going to look real weird :think1
-
Nope,
You are weird :rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl
-
knew it... I knew it...I knew it :runyay :runyay :runyay
-
No your not alone, tho that does not mean that your not weird.
I've managed to name most of my bikes, my ST 1300 got it's name when I brought it home my wife said it's as big as the Battlestar Galactica

Stars wars?
Who mentioned Star wars......

-
:blk11 Well, I named my old BMW K75 "BBJ" short for "Boadicea Boob Job". My ST1100 though is "Triple H" short for "Horatio Haiku Honda"
-
Never really thought about it.
I've always called cars female names. Easier to rant when it won't go.
At risk of being boring. Bluey. No didn't think so.
Hang on.....
fast.
so fast it's blue....
Comet.
I'll let you know.
Just might be The STead. That's easy.
Something we can all relate to?
:blu13

I'm trying to do my best of Billy T, but it's not working Bro.
I'm from Tauranga, so we really are Bro's, at least neighbours bro.
Do you know why New Zealand hasn't gone to the Moon yet?
Not enough scaffold Bro.. :crackup :crackup
:blu13
-
I have yet to go down this path. My partner just suggest a few names like wind spirit or wandering star after I mentioned this post to her.
So at the moment it is "she who has yet to be named"
:bl11 :think1 :bl11

Tauranga? I lived there for the twelve years or so out at Gate Pa, before I went on holiday, and here I am... originally t/a...been here 21 years, but one thing worried me for a long long time...
Did I forget to turn the light off haha
If you remember Billy T ...tee hee.. then you are I am guessing not 21 :grin
-
We were in Welcome Bay.
I left home and moved to Dinsdale.
Immigrated in '89, when i was a wee lad of 19. You can do the math on that.
Never been back.
I was fortunate enough that my parents took me around the Mainland and the other island before we came over. Bro.

Hi Malcolm,
Mate your on the right path but you gotta get creative as in comet/blue mmmmm! a comet that is blue ..Haleys comet..! :well ???
Maybe then you could call it Bill
-
It's gotta be something that suits a mate has a Suzuki Gladius that I named Edna & it stuck.
I started calling it The Gladioli the flowers that Dame Edna Everage carries & then it became Edna

You have a dual seat and now you require a sidecar
:cuss those words are unfitting for your good she who shall be obeyed, so methinks perhaps you made them up?
Seriously Streak! your ride of second choice has no name? :nahnah

The Service Manager at the local Stealer rode my old 1100 out and said, "Here's the Bismarck". He reckoned they are one of the best Battleships on the road.
I was going to call my 1300 that but my Granddaughter (Chloe) won out.
-
ST1300 is called Camel, because it goes a looooong way between drinks. :thumb
-
Seemed that Trundler was a good way to describe this ST.
Point it at a road and just keep trundling along testing the riders endurance.
Sometimes at the end of the day it's rolled so far I have to stop cause it's got very dark.
Missus loves the "won't be home tonight at somewhere texts
-
I call mine "Diablo", the name of the trusty steed that the Lone Ranger rode.
-
I thought the Lone Rangers horse was Silver.
-
You're right Brock.
The lone ranger would say "Hi ho Silver, away"
And it's also in Wiki, and the information is correct.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lone_Ranger
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mjQPxtMv3vY
I think Webby might be getting confused with the Cisco Kid.
:blu13
-
Diablo was in fact the horse of the Cisco Kid, so I guess that makes Webby a Mexican
:rofl :rofl :rofl
-
Brock, you are so right. I am a fan of too many cowboys. A mate calls his bike Loco, which is Pancho's horse.
-
Having a insomnia troll and found this old thread......worth breathing some life into, I thought.
So we always name our cars & bikes...... Pockey's car a RAV4 called "Ravi" after the Indian sales man whom we bought the car, :well......my Landcruiser is Lilly, Pockey's previous car was Millie the Mazda3.
The ST......"STig"......not from Topgear, but STig is a Scandinavian boys name meaning the Wanderer, appropriate we thought.
What's yours ??
-
My daughter says I should name mine "Red Dwarf", but naming a motorcycle seems weird. :crazy
Which makes me wonder which of the characters she thinks could be me???
-
"Arsehole"
Because every time I get on it the battery's usually flat...... :cuss
:rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl
-
I've found with most cars & bikes it's hard to name them usually something happens & it names them guess like most nicknames
-
Haven't quite got my bike yet, weill advise shortly.
-
I once had a Yamaha XS650 that vibrated like blazes, and was riding with a mate around Tassie. We stopped at bike shop where he was getting a new tyre fitted. My XS was parked nearby, and some bloke walked in and said "Who's riding the black dildo?" The name stuck.........
-
'Goldie' or the 'big gold bastard' usually. I have a Honda Shadow that I call B5.. BikeBears Big Black Bastard'
-
Before I came to oz land I had a Honda cb1000, the big one as it was called, I named that Holly Honda, my st 1100 I have now is called Rhonda the Honda, and my Toyota land cruiser because its big and strong, and I'm Scottish it's called Hamish.
:bl11 :beer
-
Well, mines a bit boring, but it didn't have a name for the Bike but when my little Sabie passed away I dedicated the ST to him and so it's now Sabie.
The red Yamaha is my Wife's bike... She calls it Gilbert or "Gillie" for short after a little Cavalier King Charles Spaniel we had. He was a Blemheim which is white and red. Hence red bike.
The Suzuki is also my wife's bike which she calls Coke again after a little female Cavalier King Charles Spaniel a little tri-coloured Cav Black and White with touches of brown and partner to Gilbert.
Anyway.....she started it..... Naming the bikes ...
-
Nice collection of bikes you have going ther Sabie. Lining up to start a showroom or the next Bike Museum (in a few years) ?

Dragon 1300's name is Wyvern. A Wyvern dragon is the type of dragon (there are many - especially Chinese) that the original St.George battled in English folklore. These dragons have clawed limbs and wings and breathe fire. I found a wooden one on Gong Gumtree and restored and stained it. He's beautiful.
Wyvern is my guardian and mentor and the reflection of his eyes watches and admonishes me whenever I make a mistake or rough-ride him.
Wyvern recently met WAG's (West Aussie Glen) bike and really liked her gold wings.
When I get a leg-cramp Wyvern kindly breathes fire on my thighs and encourages me to stand up on the pegs and stretch my legs. Trouble is, on hot days, Wyverns hot breath broils my crutch! :H

I've actually decided the name for my bike. The bikes official colour is Sienna Gold, therefore it is now known as 'Golden Brown' (as per the Stranglers song).
-
:dred11
I named my ST STranger,, why you may ask, well simply "do you know me" I'm a STranger,, :nahnah
-
I have not found a name for the new girl yet, still working on it
-
When I rode my ST1300 into the garage for the first time, as usual she was adamant it had to have a name. After a short while of walking around, she decided it was "Pan".
I guess she figured this bike was going to whisk me away often and it has.
I refer to the ST as "The cruise missile" so between us it goes by the name "Pan - The Cruise missile" :grin
-
:dred11
:think1 is my ST1100 the only STud male bike. I always refer to him, prolly cause he's so STrong :rofl :runyay ;-*
-
Might sound silly to some, but I named mine "Ty Robert", after my 28 year old son who passed away from cancer last year. He always wanted a road bike, but his beautiful wife wouldn't let him have one, so he has one now. She loves the name of it and so do the grand kids.
Cheers
:wht11
-
Pan as in Peter Pan. :grin

When I brought my first learner bike home, a Hyosung GV250, my wife said she needed a name, how about GLORIA (as in the song by Them - Van Morrison was lead singer), So G-L-O-R-I-A she was.
My next bike, a 2010 candy orange max Boulevard M50, had a number plate ending in EYQ and my wife - after following it home for 300 km after I bought it - said I like Angelina Jolli, Angelique, so my Boulevard became "Angie" - a song by the Rolling Stones.
When I bought the white ST1100 my wife said it made her think of that photo of Marilyn Munroe in the white dress standing over the air vent in New York, so she became "Norma Jean" as in "Farewell Norma Jean, from the young man in the 42nd row, who saw you as something more than sexual, more than just our Marilyn Munroe."
So I've kind of had my bikes named after lady's names in songs.
-
I have a white ST1100P that I have named Pearl..... predictable I know.
-
How about " She who must remain upright " that has a certain sense of substance........................................ :eek :wht11

You are not alone. ST is Ruby. (Red of course). The Landcruiser is Pearl (pearl white) LC gps is Wanda and Ruby's is TomTom. Self explanatory but dont ask me why it is necessary.
-
I had a nice civil name for my bike but after all the grief she has been giving me, I now call her Strumpet which is a kinder version of some of the other names I have been calling her lately
-
My son and I have a 1990 sliver st1100 which on its first long ride with us, shat it's self half way along the thunderbolts way. My son who has autism called it "The Sliver Pig", the name has stuck.

I have to say it is a comfort of sorts to hear someone else has an adversarial name for their ST. Mine has given so much grief lately calling it a Strumpet is the nicest thing I could say about it.

My daughter calls my 1000 a LEGO bike bitch.
