What's your Sport ???
Do you watch or do you do ??
For me the do not disturb sign goes on the front door for the Bathurst 1000 and most of the touring car rounds :thumbsup
Have a thing for Australian cricket when we can get our act together :||||
Love power walking which has evolved into running now, just 5 k's but run it all, but plans for the City to Surf next year, and i have turned into a bit a of gym junkie too.
Pockey :wink1

My sport these days is mixed netball on Wednesday nights.
retired from rugby union and cricket after 15 years of fun and no major injuries :thumb
And of course motorcycling
-
Enjoy my NRL (go the Roosters), the cricket when it is worth watching, so no cricket watching for the past couple of years. Quite like women's beach volleyball as well for some reason. :p
-
With my roster and on call commitments team sports is prohibitive.....been Mountain biking for about 10 years, getting a little more serious again, just having a custom bike built.
Going to get flamed here by the blokes BUT........I don't watch ANY sports AT ALL on TV :eek
And hell yes Motorcycling is a sport.....you go fast, wear protective clothes, and get a Cardio workout if you over cook a corner :thumbs
:beer

tractor pullin', strongman comps, woodchop,
-
No sport for me as the rosters from being and Paramedic and Retained Firey kill any chance of turning up for sport, let alone the volunteer work I do.
-
I don't care to much for sport and it rarely gets watched on TV.
Maybe the occasional Moto GP race, Netball if the Thunderbirds are playing, and no great loss if I miss a match or a race.
-
For me it's motorcycle distance and social riding. I get all the physical exercise I need gardening.
I'll support the anti-blokey trend- TV sports on rare occasions when I enjoy the occasional AFL match, especially when the Lions are on a roll. I used to really like the cricket, especially the One Dayers, but it's ruined these days.
-
Due to my work roster , all sport is out. I enjoy watching MotoGP on the goggle box along with a bit of F1.
When i'm feeling down and in need of hysterical laughter , i watch :cuss St Kilda play AFL like the local under 10's team , minus their finesse & ball skills.
When i can i catch my Qld Cup rugby league team - they have lost the 2 times i have seen them this year, so maybe back to back premierships are a lost cause :'(
-
Played AFL and soccer in high school, did all the normal farm things and got into dirt bike riding when an apprentice doing MX and 4 hour enduro's (was fit then). Watched my kids with soccer and football, even umpired a few games. Was pushed into tennis by my father but have not picked up a racket since his death. These days I might watch a bit of MotoGP or V8's, but usually fall asleep as it's just a parade. I am an ANDRA Steward and Tech Inspector and still attend the drags. Riding my bikes is now my pastime while I can still do it.

In the UK I was into full bore rifle and pistol target shooting, am still in 2 minds whether to take it up again at my local club. Trouble is the ST is coming first all the time.

Never did any sport up until 4years ago when I got into road cycling. From there I progressed into doing team events in the local Tri club with mainly the bike leg and the occasional run leg. However I couldn't swim so it was of to the pool and persevered and got the swim thing happening and did a couple of our local pier to pub ocean swims. I did alot of our local club races which included the Hervey Bay Hundy and Goondiwindi Hell of the West wich are both long distance 100k courses and Noosa tri. But then................... I got the bike bug again and bought the :blu13 and have been loving it but still doing cycling and running to keep some fitness up :rockon

Hockey, hockey and more hockey. Both my kids play field hockey, and so do I when I'm not out with a back injury. With my daughter representing the NT this year, and playing 4 grades (2 junior and 2 senior) for most of the season, we're there 5 days a week for training and games. :runyay
As far as watching sports...live motorsports, especially V8s and Superbikes at Hidden Valley. On tv I limit my sports watching to State of Origin, MotoGP and V8s. :popcorn

Still playing soccer. have been playing for 45yrs, about 37yrs as a goal keeper. Have played in top division for many years and at one time play keeper for the same team as my son and the sons of the guys I started with. Now playing in Whyalla for their local reserve grade as a keeper. First game I played with them, they beat the leading team 2-0 and stunned the association in winning. Certainly was a legend to the young guys on the team as I did some great saves to keep us ahead. Was the oldest registered player in the association in Hunter region in NSW. Probably the oldest in the Whyalla competition too. Carry the injuries a little longer these days, but when that referees start whistle sounds, all the pain is forgotten and it's down to business.
Feel very fortunate to still have my health and able to do what I can do considering 6yrs ago was given only 2hrs to live. Certainly beat them odds. Had a 2yr break from soccer during that time.

Here is a photo with our Mixed Netball team (The Hip Pocket Rockets), we just lost our semi final, but we had a pretty good season :thumbsup

I don't play any sport, when I was younger I used to play a little bit of squash, in my 30's and 40's social Golf, but nothing for over a decade.
The life style was one that didn't allow for any regular events, like every Tuesday this or that. Now I'm a Domestic Engineer of sorts I can't afford anything of the sporting nature and I don't want to redirect any available finances away from the Biking Activities.
-
No Sport for me... I enjoy watching Tennis, but that's about it
-
tractor pullin', strongman comps, woodchop,
and i like playing darts, pool but not snooker.

I used to play Squash and Rugby...played both for what seems like forever until I went to the Middle East to work (Saudi Arabia...hard work but disgustingly big lumps of money to make up for that!!) I was asked to play rugby there and did...for a single game during which I get tackled whilst running quickly (I could do that in those days!!) and I fell onto my face and arms in the sand and lost what seemed like several square meters of skin in a few layers over the front of me. Also lost lots of blood and underwent a couple of hours of what was excruciating agony having a couple of kilos of rough sand removed from in and under my skin slowly and methodically by a quite rough male nurse who was unhappy because he was working during an afternoon off. I was not allowed to play again for 3 weeks while the skin areas healed and after that I couldn't think of any particular reason why I would risk doing the same damage again, so I didn't from there on...ever again!
From there on I took to Sub Aqua Diving in the Red Sea and loved every single solitary event, it was without doubt the clearest, cleanest, warmest water I have ever been in and we regularly went down to 50 metres in anything up to 50 kilms ether North or South of Jeddah...Absolutely mesmerizing, and something that I would do again in a heartbeat!!!

-
Congratulations! About time you left now, so someone says...earlier the better!!
-
At school I played that code of football where one player tries to push two players up three players bums.
Now I just do power walking and half marathons in my spare time. The problem is I don't have any spare time.
-
Mixed netball!!?? Is that something they play out in the bush where there's a shortage of girls?
:p >:()

Guess that was a long time ago. Do they still play that anywhere?
Is John Hopoate in the amateur league?
"During a 2001 clash with the Cowboys, Hopoate, in an attempt to unsettle several of his opponents, inserted his finger in three players' anuses, the first occurring during the seventh minute of play. At the conclusion of the match the matter was immediately referred to the rugby league judiciary where a case was put forward from both sides on 28 March.
Hopoate claimed in front of the panel of judges that he was simply attempting to give all three players "a wedgie" with his fingers, denying he had done anything wrong and that he was "a great believer in what happens on the field should stay there".

Played AFL from 7 to 22 and 30 to 33. Surfed,Sailboarded ,Scuba dived, snow skied and rode horses most recently. Don't do anything now except help my daughter compete with her horses and ride the ST and doesn't my waist show it.
Was half tempted a couple of years ago to play over 40's AFL, thankfully after the initial rush of blood my brain kicked into gear.

They're not allowed to push now....the alternative game is where one player tries to push two players up three players bums, and two extra player push themselves up the same bums; they push they do! :butt

Have been playing it for years, it is a great team sport, the kids get to come to, and learn all about indoor sport, it is a win win for me :thumb
Glad to win though we had last the previous 2 grand finals

thought i would kick this thread along again!
Mixed Indoor Netball is still my sport of Choice, i play twice a week on Mondays (D grade), and on Wednesdays (C Grade)
my C Grade Team (simply Called the hip Pockets), lost in the first stages of the finals this season, so no silverware!
My D Grade Team (called the fruit tingles), finished in 6th spot on the ladder scraped into the finals, and we walked away as champions beating the top 2 ranked teams to get the grand final

Teela also plays and has her own Team (Called Plexus Ladies) in Ladies E Grade, it was their first season and they walked away champions so they where a very excited bunch!

Cycling is our normal family sport, but for the month of October our son, Chris and I are participating in the Great Cycle Challenge for Kids Cancer. https://greatcyclechallenge.com.au/
Our target for the month is 250k's each.
Chris worked today so did 25 k's after work, I have done 47 and our man Jaydon has done 52k's for the first day.
Thanks to one of our generous QLD members for sponsoring me in our quest to raise money for kids cancer. :Blow. We have raised $165 so far :hatwave
Just a little while ago the collective participates Australia wide have ridden over 33,000 k's today and raised $917,000 for this cause. :-++

Your netball antics reminded me of when we watched my 15/16 (at the time) year old step daughter Tina play one of her matches. There weren't to many people watching the girls play (most were watching the footy on the oval) and we were asked if we'd take note of the match and select who we thought was the best girl on each team. Before I could answer Heather said "we don't know anything about netball" but I knew enough about the basics to do it.

Cycling. Sunday 19th October is the Round the Bay ride. 220km for me. Unfortunately no motor allowed. Best time 7hr 15 min. A few years ago now.

:-++ Good effort ppopeye.
My best ATB time was 8hr 45min (last time), worst 11hr 40min (first time). That was back in 2003, 2004, 2005 & 2006. Sadly, I think my ATB days are over - knees, back and ticker aren't up to it anymore.

I used to play football (the real football with the round black and white ball) as a kid, and even managed to break my shin playing. When I joined the Army I had no car, so I bought a Malvern Star "Moscow 80" Road racing bike and rode it every where within 50 km Radius of Bandianna, then when I moved to Brisbane I played Touch Footy, bought myself a Windsurfer brand Sail board with a 6.4 square meter sail and took that up for Wednesday afternoon sport sailing out at Deagon, Woody Point, Bribiw Island and off shore at Noosa launching from Little Beach and main beach.
When I left the Army I dropped all sport except for going Sail-boarding occasionally. The family was young then, so even sail boarding fell by the way side with taking kids to Gymnastics and other events.
For a couple of year in the late 1990's I played Touch Footy of a Tuesday evening, but then changed jobs servicing SE Qld and was often on the road home when the matches were being played, so I dropped that.
Now I still have the Sail Board in the back yard, gathering mould as I don't have a vehicle that can transport it. I don't play any sport, and my waist is showing it. I have a treadmill which I'm trying to put to good use, still a little to sporadic, but getting better. The spare trye has to go.
As for watching Sport, I've watched all but two Bathurst Races since I was about 12 years old. One was missed while out on Exercise with the Army, and one was for my Son's Birthday. I try to watch all V8 Supercars events, but life and wife sometimes get in the way. ;-*
I find it hard to watch bike racing as I want to lean into all the corners and tend to fall out of the lounge chair and of course Pan the Cruise Missile in the garage gets insulted and calls loudly. :grin
As for NRL, I will only watch State of Origin and even then I have my doubts the results aren't rigged to get bums on seats and advertising dollars.
Congratulations Pockey for getting on to the run, bike swim thing. ++
-
If anyone with roof racks in SE Qld would like to learn how to sail board I'd love to teach you, but first I'll have to buy a buoyancy vest or two. Yes the rules changed a long time ago and that has added to the delay of getting back on board.
