the pic shows both halves of the connector for the yellow wires. the left one is the back of the plug from the alternator, you can see there are only two wires cutoff on top. the bottom one is missing corroded or broken off somehow. result one fried connector and a new regulator needed. alternator static test OK.
Looking through forums this is common. Might pay owners of older bikes to check.

Thanks, will do.

Well worth checking those connections any time the side cover is off. Mine failed not longer after I got the bike, and before I had read all the information of possible failure points.

Hi Pault,
Thanks for that heads up, it is a timely warning,
Would you please tell us what your ride is (year and model) and what extra electrical mods. it has , as to indicate any extra load or demand that might be placed on to the alternator output.
This is just to give an idea as to how adequate the origional plugs and wiring can cope with any extra loads etc, if that is a possible cause of this type of problem (failure)
Cheers , Winston66

I always carry a spare :) it's a common fail if not keeping an eye on the connections and a little spray of Inox every now and then does the trick

twas me who posted pic. bike is 95 police model 233000ks running 35w hid in headlight 2 x 55w fogs sometimes, suspect mechanical failure of third wire to connector, was only hanging on by a few strands, why i do not know as it was under no apparent mech stress. now to wait 2 weeks for part from japan

happens all the time on the 1990. always got to carry spares and tool to reconnect

This most commonly happens from a "high resistance joint" , poor crimp of the connector or loosening of the spade terminal. this csuses heat, which causes more bad contact and the viscous circle goes 'round 'till failure :'(
It may pay for those p[ossibly affected to look closely at the copper wire where it enters the terminal, any sign of of dull pink on the copper wire will show it starting. The spades can be backed out of the housing and redone or replaced to stop it happening :thumb
