Title: UHF Aerial Mount
Post by: Malcolm6112 on January 03, 2012, 11:16:45 PM
I've been looking at MCL aerial brackets.

Thinking to myself " self this can't be hard".

The only issue was I had to buy 4 metres of 50 x 6 ali flat bar.
I used 1 piece of 50 x 6 ali bar @ 500mm long. I have a diagram of where to drill holes if you want it.
2 x m8 x 80 bolts
2 x 50mm terminal links. These are used by electricians to join 90mm square cables, as in these are 8.5mm ID.
These need to be cut down by 5mm. Easy because they are copper. Clean up edges and debur.
If you would like some ali say so. 3.5mtrs left.

The two rear bolts of the top box is what I used to mount the plate.

Here is the topbox off

Topbox on.

The reason for having it on the right, it's out of the way from the pillion.

You know how us West Aussies don't have rego stickers anymore. Well here is a new use for the holders.

A drawing of my bracket. You can modify if you like.

That was a concern, so the MK1 version was a piece of jarrah. That way too I could drill holes and move it, get it right then make the real thing.

I have mine mounted  next to the driving light on the police bracket up front. I am still thinking changing to a rear mount, but receprion and range seem fine.

And a fusebox in the tail. The other part of my Uniden in wrapped in the towel beneath.

Missing something there.

One thing missing on that bracket, no welding.....
