Title: Red-letter day for Postman Pat and his trusty old bike
Post by: Marcus on September 23, 2013, 09:41:31 AM
It seems Australia Post are retiring the iconic "red" post bike

Here is the replacement.

They have been using them in Sydney (fading out the old ones) for a couple months now.

EFI, electric start my postie said.

They have done some time trials and are very happy  :crackup

Don't blame the postie, it is all down to new interpretations of Workplace Health and Safety guidelines. All the old icons are disappearing. The ST, the postie bike, what next?   :fp

Honda won't be pleased at loosing the prestige of having the biggest selling bike in Oz.

Good grief!  What is that lolly-looking thing?  Is it Chinese?
If it's not a Honda, then it's a rip-off of the Step-thru.

I'm old enough to remember postmen on bicycles.  And they had whistles that you could hear a mile away.
It was the early days of WH&S when they banned the whistles because the postie might be getting germs off it.   :eek

It's still a Honda but made in their China plant.

However, it has hit a pothole, with Honda recalling the NBC110 Super Cub bikes, made in China, because of a fuel-pump problem. Australia Post has even withdrawn some old postie bikes from auction to keep up mail deliveries while the new model is introduced.

"They are also more sustainable because they help reduce carbon emissions."

Oh my goodness!  The Green lunacy is partly to blame.    :eek

The reduced amount of CO2 emitted by our 7000 postie bikes will make an infinitesimal difference to the volume of CO2 emitted by vehicles.

Seas will rise one quintillionth of a metre less over 100 years.

Yep- before you ask, I'm a climate change sceptic.  I didn't say the climate isn't changing.  I implied that our civilization's contribution isn't proven to be the cause of any or all of it.

I'd have a crack at one.  Love the postie bike. Just got to stop all the onlookers calling out, " check the fat bloke with the 2 wheels hanging out his arse."  >:()

One of my customers is a postie and he was telling us that the boys in one of the depots were taking the micky out of his depot because his branch missed out on the new EFI ones....  1 week later they were all recalled and had to source red bikes back from my customer's depot....
Karma is a b!tch ....  :Whipped

That bike is one of the biggest selling in the world. Honda sell more of these in Asia than any other model. In fact more Super Cubs have been produced than any other bike since they were introduced in 1958. I reckon once they sort out the FI recall they will do a great job since they are used for carrying multiple passengers in asian countries along with cows, crates of chickens,  boxes of veges, bales of hay, etc., etc.

And I'm old enough to remember when the postie used to walk while delivering mail, carrying the sack of letters on his back, and you could hear his whistle from 2 blocks away!! :grin

The posties in my neck of the woods use Toyota vans or four wheel drives. I wonder if they will be painted in fluro green too?
