Yet for my ST1300 they want almost double what Swann gives me. Go figure.
-
It sure seems random. Might be at the discretion of the clerk.
Or maybe WA white ST11s get preferential treatment because white STs are so common over there.
-
Well... he is in WA... Less people means less chance of it getting stolen :p

I am just about to renew my St1300 - Shannons are $455 for $15K agreed value. They are $427 for CTP and on the RMS calculator they were up to 200 bucks cheaper than the usual mobs.
-
I am about the same as Turtle with insuremyride, except I don't have daily riding. I also go 2000 extra gear cover and all the extras on the bike, which did not chnage the premium (they did not offer, I had to ask). Mine is insured fro $7400 as it is in such great condition, I I will be washing it this week...

Biggles! It's time you learned, there's nothing common about white STs, no matter where they are! :spank

I'm with Youi, I found them to be the cheapest
($33 a month :thumbs or $395.90 for the year :rockon)
I have just switched from QBE to Youi
QBE $54.28 (Per month)
Youi $32.99 (Per month)
Includes $1500 cover for aftermarket parts (they will do up to $4300)
And riding gear (any riding apparel or protective clothing purposely made for motorcycle riding, including helmets, gloves, riding jackets, pants and boots, and any other motorcycle-specific gear, such as body armour and knee guards.)

I found Youi very helpful, obliging and prepared to beat other quotes. I ended up with $382.00 PA, for the brand new ST1300 and this included $5,000 cover for the Elite camper.
:thumbsup

Well here is a quick thanks to members input about their thoughts on different insurance companies.
I have just received my renewal from Swann....not bad at $285 p.a. (but no gear/helmet etc cover)....but I decided to 'shop' around.
Youi have quoted $248 p.a. which includes all the riding gear, plus and extra $1000 cover for other things.
So, all in all looks like a winner for me.
Cheers
Kev
Now we all just sit and wait to see if they pay a claim promptly. :popcorn

I'm with Youi and paying $350 pa for my 2008 ST1300.
-
I had a quote from Youi yesterday and it a couple dollars under the $368 quoted by QBE but it would be cheaper if I paid yearly so down to $301. Couldn't do that in one lump sum (out of work) but that didn't deter the sales rep. He put me on hold for a few minutes and came back with $316 a year paid monthly.
Apparently he put on some sob story to his boss about me being out of work etc and couldn't pay the premium in one lump sum so he got the staff discount for me. After all that I thought it best to go ahead with the deal. So, $26 a month from January.
Nearly forgot, the sales rep was a bike rider as well........so maybe that helped.
-
It's interesting to see all the different quotes insurance companies put out there.
I am also with Insure my ride and they pinged me $425 pa for market value of $9500 plus $1000 gear cover. Saved me just over $200 from the RAC.
That's for my GOLD 1999 ST1100 ABS/CBS/TCS (sounds like a uni degree doesn't it)
But my point is - IT'S GOLD BABY
all you whites, blues, blacks and reds can aspire to be gold but there is only one original, 1999 50th Anniversary. Hehehe.
-
QBE have a promotion on (I think it goes most of the time) that if you can email them the quote you've got (.e.g. the quote page from the Insure My Ride website) they'll beat the price. Beware of the following; They'll compare the quote but
QBE excess is $500 not $400 and they won't lower it
QBE will always quote including $4k of personal stuff and they will take it out to price match if it's not in the quote you send them (fair enough unless you expect them to leave it in.
There's always uncertainty about how many k's. QBE seem to work on how many k's you will do in a year and may try to fudge you down, i.e. sign you up to 10,000 p.a. to lower the premium whereas limited use in Insure My Ride is based on "less than 4 days per week". Now my last 3 day ride was just over 5000k if I did that once a week.......
It's annoying having to ring around each time but there's always money to save. e.g. I saved $200 on one of QBE's renewals calling NRMA for my Super Tenere a couple of months ago. But they couldn't get within $200 of the $416 Insure My Ride quoted for 15k on my "new to me" ST today. QBE started at about $560 (with the gear insurance). Haven't tried Youi. Waiting to see that QBE come back with tomorrow and I'm using their covernote.
Now I'm confused! :crazy

I'm insured with Shannons and I pay $83.72 per quarter ($334 per annum) for agreed value of $15,500, limited use, Basic Excess $500, Theft Excess $0, so what do I get for the money!!
Riding apparel for rider and pillion passenger
Cover for windscreen
Theft of tools or personal items in the bike
Emergency accomodation following an accident or theft
Choice of repairer
Lifetime guarantee on repairs
Towing and storage following an accident
Accidental damage to a trailer if being towed by the bike
Reimbursement for a hire vehicle for up to 14 days if the motorcycle is stolen
$20 million Legal Liability cover
Cover while participating in Defensive riding course
I'm reasonably happy with what I get for what I pay. :grin

Ummm. There's at least two up in Cairns.

How is it that people are with Shannons and yet when I go to there site and do a quote it comes up as almost $1500 absolutely a ripoff. So far cheapest I can find is youi at $600+ which gives me the same as Shannons so why are they more expensive?

A new screen every year ....... I like that idea

For what it's worth, Suncorp own, Shannons, AAMI, APIA, Just Car, Insure my Ride, and numerous other Insurance companies.
Suncorp was originally SGIO (State Government Insurance Office) and then they purchased Metway, and finally became known as Suncorp! :grin

Winston66,
I am with Couch, It is Shannons for me, I have my three bikes and two cars with them, they seem to have the best all round cover, as I can not use all of these vehicles at the same time I have gone for the restricted use option ,Say two days a week on any one of the 5 vehicles and with my 65% N/claim Bonu and the 10% multi vehicle discount the whole package for everything as comprehensive cover including the one windscreen per vehicle per year and all of the other options including the pull along motorcycle or any other trailer, Riding gear, etc, etc, the total bill is only $105.00 Per month,
These are all for agreed market value which is an excellent deal for me as the amount is stated in each policy, and all in all I consider that the added included benefits in the policy's are better than a lot of other company's. conditions.
Just my thoughts.
Cheers winston66

I looked at Shannons 7 ears ago. With rating 1 cover they wouldn't insure me. I was deemed to much of a risk as I ride daily. So it seemed to me back then that they only covered part time riders.
To my way of thinking I deemed that by riding daily you maintained your skill level and would improve the more you rode thereby making you less of a risk.
I went with Swan instead. From Jan 2014 it goes to Youi 'cause they took it down to $316 for the year for riding everyday.
-
Hi alans 1100,
I guess that for me i think that i have got a good deal from Shannons.
I have taken the point of view that when you look at a specific policy's details and overall coverage especially with your own specific needs and circumstances in mind.
I try to consider the benefits for me and then some considerations might be able to outweigh a small cost impost when the overall policy details have some particular advantages over an alternate company's offering.
In the end it is horses for courses and what anyone's particular needs are.
For me Shannon's tick more boxes as far as what I think I want and as well as the benefits that they offer.
And I periodically do checks and comparisons between different insurance suppliers.
In the end I guess all that matters is that a person gets to use whatever rocks their boat for them.
Cheers. Winston66

My 2 cents worth, Swann St1100 $419 paid November `13 insured for $8869. Paid $4950. Odd numbers but good coverage if any mishap. Could be paid monthly no extra cost. Excess of $250.
Maybe `cause its white? :wht11

Did someone mention a claim??
Not quite finalised my claim with InsureMyRide, and whilst the process wasn't perfect, it was pretty close to. I'd reckon I'll get the cheque this week, if not early next, and the accident was only 13 days ago. First few days in hospital, they moved things along starting with my wife talking to them, and nothing has been a problem. Having said that, with a big organisation like this, they have different departments do different functions, and sometimes some information gets a bit lost in the translation, but when I raised any concerns, they addressed it very quickly and promptly. I could not have imagined that it has been as easy as it has, and most of those complications were also to do with other third party specialists.
My other bike is also with InsureMyRide, so I will be interested to see what my premiums are next for this (I paid the renewal the weekend of the accident), and also what they charge for the replacement bike. Great friendly staff, most of whom appear to ride bikes, and they were all very helpful.
So 5 stars :thumb :thumb :thumb :thumb :thumb to InsureMyRide for the first and hopefully last motorcycle insurance claim i'll have.
Use them again; you bet, but I'll still shop around.

I've been with Shannons for a couple of years now and have been very happy with them. Combined Policy renewal is due tomorrow, $349.77 for the St1300 as an every day rider, insured for $14500.00 and $266.36 for my modified FE Sedan (ASRF Class vehicle), also as an every day driver. I also changed my House and Contents Insurance to them last year. But I'm buggered if they're competitive on Insurance on my 2003 Toyota Prado or the wifes 2010 Mazda 3. Both of those are also insured with Suncorp companies being GIO and AAMI respectively.
I actually had a claim with Shannons in July this year when my 2008 FJR1300 was totalled, they were easy to deal with and very quick with settlement. And even though it was a single vehicle accident, they have returned my full no claim discount and tell me that they are going to refund my $500 excess, which they had withheld from the payout.
-
I'm with Insure my ride and started paying $345 p/y. After a few years it's down to $230 or $240. That's full use insurance and motorcycle gear.
My wife's boulevard is also with IMR and has made one claim when the bike fell over on her (at a standstill) but scratched front guard, saddle bags had the tiniest of marks, mirror and throttle grip and blinker.
They replaced all of that as well as new risers and handlebars. Just over $4,000. No problems with the process, it was just a phone call to them and her premiums never went up but stayed at the same rate for the next year and then started going down after that.

Youi has apparently pulled out of North Queensland. We have a few friends who had Youi policies. They've received notice that their property and vehicle insurance won't be renewed.
Because our home insurance almost doubled when we received the notice this month (we're with AAMI and have been for over a decade) we looked around got quotes etc Youi wouldn't quote and said they do not insure in our area.

They were obviously burnt by Cyclone Yasi.

Move to Tassie mate, we'll find room for ya! :grin

Plenty of houses available Sabie, and very much cheaper than the mainland, can't help you with the income, you'd have to sort that one out for yourself, but there's always work for those who really want it. No cyclones, no severe storms or hail, no floods, cooler weather (sometimes a little cold), fantastic scenery, clean air, pure water, fantastic produce, great motorcycling roads, and the list goes on............Ho hum! :grin
-
Darn! Sounds perfect, except for that one tiny item:
(sometimes a little cold)
Oh, and the 40 knot westerlies.
Um. And there's the rain. And snow.
And apocryphal reports of "extra heads".
-
Yes, we do get strong winds at times, and a little snow in the mountains in winter, rain......yes, a little, but no where near as much as Sunny Queensland.
Biggles, I've told you before, Hobart is the second driest city in Australia :spank and if you don't believe me you can Google it! And we do get many beautiful sunny days! 8)
Extra heads............well, we won't go there :rofl
