A while back, Vodafone took Lowndesy's V8 Supercar and Jenson Button's McLaren Mercedes F1 to Mount Panorama for a few laps in a promotion.
Have a look at this vid shot from the front of the F1 for a lap.
A lap of 1:48 I might add!!!! :eek :rockon :-++
Enjoy...

Having done the same lap on 25th May, I can appreciate how amazing the F1 is. We were only allowed the 60 kph town speed, but I went down the Esses at a bit less than that. It would be interesting to know what the speed down the straight was- more than 300 kph I'd reckon. :thumb
Just imagine the workings of an engine that sounds like a very angry, very big mosquito.

In 1975 when I was 18yrs of age, I did a lap in my brand new Valiant Galant 1600 flat out and did the lap in 4 minutes and 10 seconds.
For me then that was flat out and the cars of the day were doing the lap in just under 3 minutes.
Conrod straight didn't have the bend in the middle like it does now and I was STing myself as I approached the bottom of the straight.
My hat goes off the the blokes who can push the limits that they do these days.

I believe you can only get a true sense of how talented these blokes are by standing on top of the mountain in the pouring rain and watching them come over skyline on their first lap, still lifting the inside front wheel over the drain, and watch them do it lap after lap to within a couple of inches all day. :thumbs
The F1 car would be out of it's element there, but still interesting. What you cannot get a feel for is the incredible braking power these cars have. Watch closely to see how close to the corner he is before closing the throttle. Scary stuff! :eek

WOW :eek
I rode laps of Bathurst for the very first time on the way home from Blackheath, and now have a new respect, admiration and awe for the race drivers who can lap The Mountain in 2:08. That track is so very twisty and steep, and to see a lap time taken down to 1:48 is truly amazing.

Great clip,iv'e driven the track ,yes i agree i came away with a whole new respect for those who drive it. :hatwave

Unbelievable :clap
Agree with Pete after we rode it this year :thumbsup
Pockey :grin

To put the F1 car lap into perspective, my lap at 60km/h took 7 minutes and 10 seconds. The F1 car was back home and over the finish line before I got to Turn 2. :crazy :crazy

Ford's win today will be a huge relief for their sales office, since they've been so far behind for so long!
You know the saying, "Win on Sunday, Sell on Monday" (or something like that).

In December 2007 I was lucky enough to participate in an event called Drive Bathurst and drove a BWM 1 Series (ex Grand Prix Celebrity Race Car) around The Mountain in race format and to did four laps with Jim Richards in a Porsche. 280 kph up Mountain Straight with Jim. Four laps with Jim and the old motion sickness got me and on stopping only just got to the loo in time. Across the top of the mountain is truly amazing.
